Review of Pizza Party

Hi, there! I'm dropping by with an anniversary review for you.

The poetry form you used lends itself well to discussions about food (which was probably the whole idea behind creating it in the first place). It doesn't look like there's a specific rhyme scheme, and you didn't need one to complete your poem. You made the required syllable count work to your advantage, too. Good job!

Also, thank you for introducing me to a new poetry form! I'll have to try it out.

Hi there, I'm here with an anniversary review for you!

Two young men, each apparently with a budding relationship issue, are the topic of conversation at a girls Wine Night in party. The ladies are friends and/or relations of the guys, are decided that matchmaking of some sort is clearly in order... and they're well into the wine portion of their night in. What could possibly go wrong? *Laugh* The next installment is sure to provide some interesting situations.

Thanks for sharing this with us, and write on!

Hi, there! Just dropping by with an anniversary review for you.

Cricket? Well, why not? There are plenty of building-related terms I either don't know or find strange (soffits, anyone?). It was very good news for your homeowner friend that the job was done correctly, although I find myself in agreement with your roofing contractor that the couple should have been at least made aware of the cricket option.

Hi! Just dropping by with an "I Write in 2024 review.

As soon as I saw the pizza line, Jeff Spicoli from Fast Times at Ridgemont High popped into my head. Although I couldn't see him taking French, no matter what his parents might say, I could easily imagine him taking a similar deal from Mr. Hand. *BigSmile*

Hi, Dragon is hiding! I dropped in to do a review for you.

Your five points are well-taken and still applicable nearly eleven years after you wrote them down. I particularly agree with you regarding points one and three. It is my custom to hold a door open for someone entering or exiting behind me, and I've even been known to apologize to someone for not doing so, because I didn't see them coming around a corner. Because I was raised that way, I extend this to opening the car door for a front-seat passenger. In my case, courtesy of a wife, four daughters and their friends, this typically means I'm assisting a lady. Just to be clear, this is in no way a commentary on their ability (or lack thereof) to do it themselves.

Regarding number three, observing this maxim is what allows me to find my wallet, keys, thumb drives etc. first time, every time (unlike some folks I could name). Of course, I've also been known to re-shelve books, grocery items, etc. from wherever some lazybones abandoned it. I'll admit to the possibility there's a little OCD involved here.

Thanks for sharing your perspective on a number of common themes, and write on!

Hi! I hope this finds you well. I'm here to review this chapter of your novella.

Your intro certainly did its job setting the hook for me. Why indeed would a doctor be involved in a child's disappearance? The story behind it is not only fascinating, it could make a reader's toes curl. One has to wonder how Leo is faring in Joe's world, and if he's planning on coming back. I thought the last line wrapped back up to the intro quite nicely.

Ah, another fine entry for the Amazing 55 Word Story. I miss that contest. The story's description caught my eye: "Break the rule, and you break the ruler." Being an older fella—and old school, to boot—I was expecting a tale involving a misbehaving youngster and a bit of corporal punishment. Instead, you've provided a view into what might be called 'incorporeal' punishment. I guess it's not easy being a god.

Thanks for sharing this, and have a great day!

Well, it looks like you've been able to garner a lot of participation from your fellow Interactive "shrink or grow" aficionados. There are an impressive number of branches overall, with what appear to be at least three choices from which to choose at the end of a given entry. I'm overly familiar with these types of items, but this looks like a well-rounded activity to me. Keep it up, and have a great day.

Hi! This review comes to you by way of "I Write in 2024.

The only thing missing from this merry tale of edible mayhem is the age of the twins. Between ten and twelve sounds about right, though, given their ability to camouflage the 'treats' and their level of excitement. Mom and Dad accepted their roles as victims of doctored vittles with good grace and humor, although I had a moment of concern when Mom turned green. I guess a piece of Brussels sprout must have gone down the wrong way.

It's great to have the kind of relationship with your kids, where this sort of tomfoolery is not only accepted, but applauded to boot. Thanks for writing it and for sharing it with us!

Review of Twisted

Hi, Quill! I thought I'd drop by with a review for you.

I liked the tale you told about the heroic horse guarding his forest, and how he and the other virtuous beasts repelled the initial attack from the evil hordes. Sadly, they were outnumbered the second time around and the horse was captured. To make the tragedy even greater, he was tortured to the point that he yielded to the evil beasts - and to the evil within himself. A tragic reminder that all have their breaking point.

Technical stuff. Let me start by saying this: your story does not read poorly. You use a standard font and text size, and you indent your paragraphs; these are all good things. To make it more legible for some of your potential readers, though, you could easily make a couple of improvements. A blank line between paragraphs—as you did at the beginning and the end—will separate the text blocks, and increasing the text size to 4 will greatly aid those with vision issues. Along those lines, you could also change the font to Verdana, as those letters show up a bit better for some, but the standard font also does the job.

There are also a few typos that got past the spellchecker: "It absorbed the light..." vs "I absorbed the light...", "...dashed headlong to confront..." vs "...dashed head long to affront...", "...his mane and tail had been cut..." vs "...his mane and tale had been cut...", and "...hunt those desperate enough..." vs "...hunt those disparate enough...". Correcting these will improve the overall quality although, to be honest, it's pretty easy for the mind's eye to use 'autocorrect' on these and see the proper word.

Thanks for sharing this with us, and write on!

Lutetium is a solid at room temperature and I assume you are, too.

How very clever of you to create your own poetry form, and one based on scientific fact to boot! It appears as though meter and rhyme are optional. That's nice, as it allows the poet maximum flexibility. I like how you touch on some of your sources of inspiration, many of which can yield poems rich in meaning and emotion: fields of grief, tears of honey and salt, and so on. Thanks for sharing this new form with us, and have a great day!

Hi! I'm dropping by with a review for you!

well, I would say, "Poor Reggie!" but, as the undoubtedly cute little sweets disposal unit has already disposed of a dozen of his chosen treat, I'd agree with mom - he's had enough; props to him for trying out his newly-learned sign, though. Mom likely does remember that screech, although it could be more along the lines of, "How does someone that small make that much noise?" As for Reggie: strawberries plus chocolate? Oh, yeah - he'll remember.

Dropping by with a review for I Write in 2024!

Your take on one of the 'Adages' prompts for EXPRESS IT IN EIGHT - Birds of a feather flock together - is an interesting one. You liken being drawn into and existing within a relationship to being part of a flock of birds. As each bird is similar, yet unique, so too are the partners in the relationship. Their similarities help bind them together. They also provide confirmation that, although each one is unique, they are not - to each other at least - strange. That's a comforting thought.

Best line: "...we are not alone."

What a clever way to introduce youngsters to that great mystery solver, Sherlock Holmes! I like how Fred decided on his career path and the steps he took to pursue it. Eventually, his studies paid off, as he was able to find little Jack the aardvark.

Both the rhyme scheme and the rhythm carried the story along, so I think you did well there. Thanks for sharing this with us!

Review of Flamingo Bat

Hi, there! I'm dropping by to leave you a review!

The main character obviously has anger issues, to the extent that he keeps a baseball bat by his front door in order to deal with...whatever. In this instance, his anger clouded his perception of things and caused him to miss enjoying the rare privilege of seeing a live flamingo right on his lawn. He is making some attempts to help himself, though. Placing a mirror near the bat as a reminder not to resort to violence is one thing. The other is accepting the love of his cat, Caleb, as a means of calming himself. Hopefully, Caleb's influence will grow to the point that the man will move the bat to somewhere harder to get at in times of stress.

Review of Horse Rider

Poor Andy! One has to wonder what Andy's father thought of John Wayne or Clint Eastwood. Neither gentleman would be classified as a redneck, and they certainly weren't girls. No, it appears as though the father was into sports - football, at least - and was looking to pass that on to his son at the expense of all else. In the interest of avoiding a confrontation, we can only hope Andy keeps his determination to be a horse rider to himself for awhile.

Hello! I'm here with a review for you.

Gerhard went on a journey—a quest—for an ancient library. He was an avid reader, having acquired and read a multitude of books. He had so many books, in fact, that they partially blocked the passageway in the bakery where he worked. His thirst for knowledge took him far from home and into danger, both of which he had been warned against. He pressed on, though and reached his goal, but...

I don't know if Gerhard decided against exploring the ancient books after all, or if his reply to Ilsa's welcome indicated that the wisdom he had gained lay in not seeking too much. Something to think about. Thanks for sharing this, and have a great day!

It is a very sad and hard thing to lose a loved one, especially a spouse. Everything around you is a reminder of their absence. Fortunately, more often than not, they're also a reminder of special moments or even just gentle memories of a life shared.

It's funny how just the right thing can appear without warning or intent, just like Louis Armstrong's song did for you. In one way, it breaks your heart, but it also helps you feel closer to the one who has gone ahead.

You have this marked Personal and Dark, so I take it this was written from your own experience growing up. If that really is the case, then I am truly you had to endure such physical abuse. Your words easily proclaim the fear felt due to the abuse, horrible feelings that apparently endure to this day.

I hope you have been able to shake free of the grip those feelings had on you, and that they're only a shadow in the background of a good life.

I like math, but calculus was not my friend. I just couldn't seem to make the connective leap required to...well, to do calculus. On the other hand, I never showed up in the wrong class—and wearing scrubs no less. If the young lady couldn't read her schedule well enough to find the right lecture hall, one can only imagine which incorrect instrument she'll be handing some dentist one day.

Hi! I thought I'd drop by with a review for you.

For the first three verses, the words you chose go perfectly with the poem's title. Then comes, as you put it, the only thing one can do no matter what the situation: pray. I know it's the one thing I'm sure I can do, when someone asks me for advice that I feel ill-equipped to give, or there's some ongoing situation I can't personally, physically affect, and I'm glad it's available. Review of Silicon ticket

This is a nice little futuristic story about a robot getting a traffic ticket. After a short hiccup regarding a change of designation (name change) for the robot, 'he' tells the judge that the prosecutor's logic and faulty and explains why. After the explanation, the judge rules that the robot misunderstood his owner's instructions regarding a delivery 'emergency', dismisses one of the charges and orders that the remaining fines be paid. As the judge remarks to himself at the end, an interesting case.

I could almost see a newly-activated Data (from Star Trek: The Next Generation, in case you're unaware) getting caught in such a situation. More realistically though—for someone of my generation, anyway—it's more likely the offending robot is related to Hymie, 86's fellow CONTROL agent on the old Get Smart TV show. After all, when asked to "Kill the light, Hymie", he pulled his gun on more than one unsuspecting lamp. *Laugh*

Review of Boys Will Be Boys

This story actually reminds me of a somewhat similar event from my own youth. Not to go into too much detail, but let's just say that sometimes weeds are prettier than flowers and leave it at that. At least you got laughs at the end; the dénouement to my little escapade was decidedly less joyful.

It's easy to imagine a young lad overhearing part of a conversation and, almost being a big boy of five, wanting to pitch in and help out. It's also easy to imagine said boy not quite understanding the actual meaning behind what he thinks he just heard. Ah, well.

Favorite line / phrase: "...--nothing short of the sentence of death--..." I'd venture a guess that there's not a person above the age of three who can't identify with what you felt upon hearing your full name.

A nice little poem about life in and under the sea. I like how the beginning gets me to imagining what the kelp must look like, swaying back and forth in the currents. It's true that there are many forms of sea life we never get to see in person, only through documentaries and, at times, feature films. I like the last bit, too, about the sea otters. It reminds me of the otters floating on their backs in California's Monterey Bay.
