Small faces press against a car window. Emily and Jonathan are being driven away.
Small faces press against a car window.
Emily and Jonathan are being driven away;
splitting relationships; splitting families.

Children should never have to bear burdens,
when adults tear their worlds apart.
Emily and Jonathan are being driven away.

I stand in the drive and watch them wave.
They are out of sight yet I hear them cry
when adults tear their worlds apart.

I go into my now empty house,
marveling at how it used to be a home.
I still see their faces and hear their cries.

Smiles, laughter, and love used to live here;
a broken wooden shell now feels empty,
marveling at how it used to be a home.

Six and a half years have come and gone,
but the pain remains fresh; like yesterday.
Small faces press against a car window,
splitting relationships; splitting families.
