A poem that looks at a new meaning for a word.
The Pill

Mother
I behold my daughter, young and free.
Her growth to womanhood is clear to see.
No babies for her, good virtues I’ll instill.
But if talking doesn’t work, then I’ll suggest she take “The Pill.”

Daughter
My mother is in her sixties, she has cancer in her breast.
Surgery and chemo would be her logical request.
The health care plan regrets, that she picked a bad time to get ill.
The counselors look with icy eyes, and suggests she take “The Pill.”
