Loneliness and isolation can do strange things to one who tries to break their hold.
Dear Reader: This is my second attempt at poetry. I don't usually write poetry but I knocked this up last night anyway. A note on the spelling: I use British-English in this piece not American-English so watch out for that. Enjoy!

In my tower I sit, musing at the stars.
No clouds on this night,
Destiny is clear,
Yet I see nothing.

Wind whistles through the trees,
Between buildings,
Past alleyways,
It’s calling to me.
Fiery Jupiter, cold eye of the moon, and mysterious mars,
All look down upon me in anticipation.

Black turns to blue,
Misplaced streaks of gold appear across the horizon;
Like a child’s first attempt at painting.
Dawn is breaking!
Gold, fantastic gold, filters unto me,
Is it destiny?
If that is what you believe then please do.

It is time for loneliness and despair to wither on this day.
Like in a dream,
I find myself on the outside of the glass looking in.
As the German war machine marched across Poland,
I also march towards my destination without hesitation.
Something guides me forward with purpose,
Towards that place where my lover lays.

Standing in the centre of a nearby street,
My heart pounds and races.
Until off the ground I fly,
Curling whips of flame,
Flames of varying colours burst forth from the ground;
Red, green, blue, violet, all the colours of the rainbow,
Encircle me with their brilliant auras.
I feel as light as a feather caught in a crosswind,
As I tumble to the ground.

What was that, am I mad?
Why do I suddenly stoop to tie my laces?
It must be nothing,
A trick of the light.
Maybe it was I who mused too long last night.
Onwards I go, no time to waste,
Nearer and nearer I come,
My destiny awaits, it is that which I’m beginning to taste.

Outside the gate I stand,
A protector prepares to defend it against my charge;
He barks, he roars, he screams, that spiked band around his neck,
No doubt inherited from that mad three-headed dog of the underworld.
Making my charge, we both attack, tearing and ripping at each other’s flesh,
With nothing but burning hatred in our hearts and minds.
When finally done,
My enemy defeated,
On a protruding spike his body did land.

Savouring my victory,
I turn and see that the show is not over,
A figure, clad in shadow,
Behind the glass, moves in closer,
Seeing what I have done, I prepare for round two;
The door opens.
Out comes the figure, clad in black,
Arms outstretched,
Nothing in his open hands.

Time stops, that burning fire is instantly out,
Replaced by a freezing cold within me.
A freezing cold that locks me in place,
Even when the figure comes close and circles me.
“Why are you here?” he whispers to me.
Unable to answer, he calls for my surrender,
He is trying to get rid of me.

Into another world I go,
Into a world of shadows, death, and despair,
I will not go there again,
I’ll grasp a rock and at his head I will throw.
The shadows melt to blood, and I’m free to assault his lair.
My prize I will claim in silence.

Stepping over the threshold I see my lover,
Like a woman coated in layers of pure gold.
She smells of fresh cut flowers in the midst of a summer’s day;
All of the smells that I forgot.
Her face unmoving she steps forward to me,
The electricity, in the air rises,
Each emotion becomes more potent.
I’m ready,
Only to be smacked to the ground like a miserable cur.

It’s over, it’s all over.
Once again, I crawl away in defeat,
Back to my lonely world.
Men arrive from all directions and I’m forced to the ground again,
I am once again...the condemned,
There is no hope for me.
