DESERT WALK

On my first trip west
I decided to see
Just how much sand
was in Death Valley!

I drove as far as I could
then put the car in park,
I wanted to get in and out
way before dark.

I took my canteen
and snacks for my walk;
Some suntan lotion
and a Walkman to talk.

The sun burned down
on top of my head,
as I passed a carcass
of a critter long dead.

I walked and walked
until I could walk no more,
No sight of my car;
(what was I here for?)

They say in a desert
quite often you see
a mirage or two
and it happened to me!

Right there before me
was a big mountain lion,
Looked kind of hungry;
I wished I was flyin!

As luck would have it
and have it, it could;
It soon dissolved and
I thought that was good!

Now there sat my car
and to it I ran;
I will leave Death Valley
As fast as I can!
