It Was A Good Basketball Life
Time to retire.
He gave me wings. But after acrobatics, life got real good schooling cocky 18-24 year-olds. They wanted one more game of 1-on-1 with me. I retired undefeated…1-0. 3 games to 1 and he said ‘no mas’.
I have many people who tell me stories back home that I forget.
My passion…number one. All the cliches, slept with my first basketball, my first bucket dad attached to a lightening-topped off pine on the corner of the lot, pounded snow with my first ball and flattened a court, with a 3-2-Q countdown, back turned, spin, shot, until no light left, until the snow was gone. I never said no to a game. I never left a game hurt, unless you count the 2017 concussion. Technically, everyone stopped playing. Miss those guys. Took good care of me.
My dream is still to go shot for shot with Steph Curry, or return to Michigan State and have Tom Izzo drill me for 15 minutes straight, or just drink beers at Bennigan’s. Pretty sure he doesn’t have a Chevy Berreta anymore.
If anyone wants shooting lessons, or learn how to read and dupe your eager defenders, come see me. We’ll get them to turn the lights on.
