getting to the age where I can blame eccentricity or senility for anything that offends...
** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only **

Blog city is a wonderful place with friendly neighbours who accept my idiosyncrasies. Some will shudder at my style of writing as it is without apology, grammatically and politically incorrect.. My thoughts, opinions and bouts of madness are displayed for all to see - warts and all (even pimples and scar tissue for those who look closely). If you are a do-gooder or someone who turns the other cheek, look elsewhere. I’m giving honesty, trust and a piece of my mind.

And another thing...(don't you just hate that phrase?)
All those hackers that attacked Visa, Mastercard, Paypal etc....great, cause inconvenience to innocent account users because you feel some sort of vindication...that is the wikileaks mentality... you're wrong, we're right, we can, so we do. Brilliant. That really got me to rethink my attitude towards Wikileaks.
The idea of having a government instead of dictatorship is that you vote for changes to laws by local representation. Hacking is just another form of blackmail, fear tactics and terrorism. If that is how wikileaks supporters act then it re-enforces that wikileaks isn't about informing and uniting people but about lack of integrity, seeking notoriety and assisting a nations enemies by creating internal unrest and division.
If only hackers spent the same degree of skill and time in dealing with al Queida and other terrorist groups to assist their nations safety.

I have been absent for six years and I will not bore you with the why or the what. I have returned because I have not written one poem since I left and I know there are several in me waiting to be released. I am on my fifth novel, the fourth of a series. I have two self-published on Amazon but while I love the stories the editing is poor and in hindsight I am embarrassed. The intention is to re-edit both, but to be honest, I am not an author. Writing the story that I am hearing is all I do. Editing etc takes time I don't want to expend for two reasons. First, while I can do basic editing, and programs such as Grammarly help, but quite often I disagree with the correctness, because it can detract from the characterisation. Second, no matter how many times I 'review and edit' there seems to be no end to the business and the continuing rewrites have me wondering why I bother writing at all. Sitting on Chapter 9 of my latest tale for over six months however is about personal issues not writers block. Lots of little notes everywhere for inclusion. Three days ago I decided that being my own worst enemy was unacceptable. The world is becoming a less than hospitable place.
As an AustraIian, I see out country, for want of better terminology, going down the gurgler. We have just had a plebiscite for same sex marriage, with the voting levels being the highest ever in Australia and the Yes vote winning. All in needs is for our Government to pass a bill and believe me you will be hearing more from me on that matter. In my opinion we have a pathetic government lacking in testicles and a duty of care to this nation. There is much wrong with the politics of this beautiful country and as one of those annoying swinging voters. Not someone who takes a particular party line. The world is in turmoil and I know that it is affecting all western nations.
I know little of the American Civil War, but the divisiveness of that time seems to be reoccurring and the level of anger and hatred among the differing parties is distressing. It appears that no-one in power is willing to compromise to maintain America's position of greatness. Enemies of the western nations and the USA in particular are delighted by the in fighting, anger and hate, as it gives them the opportunity to 'stir' the pot, weakening any cohesiveness that may exist. You have the strongest military in the world, although China may disagree, but that military needs a united home front if the individuals within are to do their duty without distraction.
It's three forty-four in the morning and I'm rattling on about things that some may consider don't concern me. Apologies but Australia and Great Britain are deeply affected by US government decisions and at the moment, there appears to be cause for concern.

In the first three months of 2013 I have not made a contribution to either this blog page or my portfolio - and though the reason for this absence is of a personal nature and therefore does not require an excuse, I still feel disappointed that I did not give my writing the priority it needed as I'm sure it would have been valuable as a 'time out'. I have just caught up with my emails (many are reminders to visit this page). So having taken this step I will endeavour to visit this site at least once a month. It's now on my calendar so NO EXCUSE

I'm assuming I'm not the only one for whom the characters I write about in stories/novels become like family. My friends shake their heads when they see me crying or hear me laughing as I write. "Why," they ask, "do you write it if it's going to make you cry?" "I don't." I reply with a sob and then a hefty use of tissues for eyes and nose. "They write themselves."
Perhaps it's ego, but one of the ways I 'judge' (for want of a better word) my own work, is by the degree of involvement the characters give me. If they make me happy, sad, angry or frustrated (situation or sexually) or evoke any emotion from me, then I know that they will do the same with a few other people as well.
There are rewards for writing, and being a popular author may be the icing on the cake, but the everyday rewards give impetus to continue. Perhaps readers can tell me of how writing helps them through life, because my sure does.
It's a way to record incidents, feelings, concerns and imagination. It allows us to share our happiness and our pain. It provides us with perspective.
Writing can be reality or escapism and my characters provide satisfy both those facets. While writing the lyrics of my last song, I cried. Fifteen minutes later four year old Alysha, a character in a novel I am writing, had me chuckling.
In writing one chapter I can experience a whole gamut of emotions thanks to the characters. On my hectic days, they call me to visit and with them I find a degree of calm. On those mundane days they lift me out of my rut and onto a road to one with unseen horizons, new adventures and lots of love.
Being published would be great, but having the opportunity to write is awesome.
