October 7, 2018, 30DBC Prompt:
This week is focused on National Days. *Ha* Starting with today, which is National Frappe Day! Do you prefer your drinks hot or cold? What kind of blended drinks do you like? *CupR*

Nope! Everything has changed now.

Yesterday I made a startling discovery while reading PandaPaws Licensed VetTech s blog entry.
You may have noticed this exchange in the comments on her entry.

Brother Nature
My prompt didn't say Even if it's fiction.
Dogs with hands? How's that veterinarian's course going anyhow?
Noticed an edit: Flights instead of Lights. You're welcome.

PandaPaws Licensed VetTech
Brother Nature , Neither did mine...
Thanks for the edit

You'll recall that the prompt was... Write about a memorable encounter with a stranger.
But Ms.Panda's prompt read... Write about a memorable encounter with a stranger. Even if it is fiction

Who Changed the prompt?

It doesn't fucking matter!

Because now, EVERYTHING HAS CHANGED

I'll be right back.

October 7, 2018, 30DBC Prompt:
This week is focused on National Days or anything else you want to write about.*Martian* Starting with today, which is NATIONAL INNER BEAUTY DAY! How about making up your own National Day. Go ahead give it a try. *Radioactive*

What's up with people and these stupid National Days?
IN WHAT NATION?
What good are they? Really?
Like... Do you get a day off with pay?
Like... Would two countries stop their war in respect for National Moldy Cheese Day?

That's right...National Moldy Cheese Day (October 9)

I proclaim that October 8, be named 'National Stick A Fork In Your Eye Day'

I have to admit, I am looking forward to 'National No Bra Day' (October 13)

Welcome to the "New Normal"
I might be starting to like this blog; It may be time to change the title.

I'm floating a new title below. Let me know what you think.

And, oh yeah... Let your inner beauty be your shining light today.

October 6, 2018, 30DBC Prompt:
Write about a memorable encounter with a stranger.

I've had several interesting encounters with strangers; Seems there's no shortage of strangers in Winnipeg's North End.
One such encounter was with an elderly man wearing middle eastern clothing. He wore a tagiya (Muslim head covering for men) he wore a long white beard, a full length flowing robe, and he wore sandals. He looked a lot like a much older Osama Bin Laddin.

I was with my sister-in-law and a girl I was dating at the time. We were sitting on a park bench in my favorite inner-city park when he approached. He walked straight up to me and began a conversation and introduced himself. The women I was with attempted to join the conversation, but he seemed transfixed on conversing only with me. He asked me several questions about my family history, religion, and was overly concerned that I am at peace and am happy. He insisted on holding my hands while he prayed for my well being. He insisted that I embrace him, so I did. Then he went on his way.

As he walked away he passed many other people, but never stopped to talk to anyone else, not even a 'hello' as he walked along.

Although the encounter was very odd, it was also pleasant, He was (I thought) a very friendly person, and he promoted peace and love between all peoples. It made me wonder why he seemed to pick me out and no one else.

Anyhow, fast forward two years later... There was a news story about a missing man who had Alzheimer's. The man's son was being interviewed. He was telling about his father who liked to go walking in the park and talk to people and to pray for certain ones and offer to embrace strangers. Then they put up a photo of the missing man, and it was the same gentleman I had an encounter with, in the park. Sadly, the man was found several days later, deceased.

It's Canadian Thanks Giving Weekend. I'm going to a Lions International meeting tonight. The meeting is being hosted by the Ma'di Club, a Lions Club group made up of immigrants from South Sudan. Traditional African food is going to be served. I'm looking forward to trying the food.

October 5, 2018, 30DBC Prompt:
Write about the person that has had the biggest impact on your life.

My Mom

** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only **

Without a doubt, my mother is the person who has made the biggest impact on my life.

My mom (Lois) passed away two years ago at the age of eighty-three. I can't say that I miss her too badly because her physical presence in my life was only a small part in comparison to her mental, emotional and spiritual presence, which I haven't lost.

The first thing you learned about Lois when you meet her is that she has six children.
She's a member of the International Lois Club, an exclusive club for people named Lois.
She has a great sense of humor. Sarcasm is her strong suit.
She's never been described as meek. If you do wrong by her... she'll let you know.
Everyone loves Lois.

My confidence, courage, sense of humor, pride, generosity, compassion, and sense of decency are all gifts I received from my mother.

She sure loved to play BINGO.

Thanks, mom.

October 4, 2018, 30DBC Prompt:
Write about a lesson you’ve learned the hard way.

One lesson I've learned the hard way is that everyone learns differently. I learn the hard way.

Can you see where I'm having difficulty with writing on this prompt? For me, the prompt is saying, write about a lesson you've learned.

I think I just blew my own mind!

Given the opportunity to share a lesson from the school of hard knocks... I choose this one every time.

If there is one thing in life you have total control over - it's your attitude. So, have a good attitude every day and every day you'll have a good day.

This looks like a good place to bail. Have a good day.

October 3, 2018, 30DBC Prompt:
Do you speak a second language? If so, what inspired you to learn it?
If not, what language are you interested in learning?

Does Pig Latin count?
Ow-na at-wha I'm aying-sa?

Here in Canada, we have two official languages French and English or English and French (depending on which coast you live on.) It hasn't always been that way. When I began school English was our only language.

I learned the alphabet, how to read, write and speak all in English. I also learned the imperial system of measurement, but I'll save that story for another blog entry.

When I entered into grade five, everything changed, the government adopted French as our country's second official language.

It was made mandatory in grade five for all students to learn to read write and speak French, otherwise, they would never be able to get a job or understand anything the government says or does.

With that, forty-five minutes a week of our classroom time was dedicated to learning the French language.

The first course which we were taught in grade five was repeated in grades 6,7,8, and when it again repeated in grade nine, (and I still could not read, write or converse in French in any meaningful way) I walked into the school principal's office and said, "Cela fait cinq ans de cours de français et je ne parle toujours pas français, alors je laisse tomber le français et vous pouvez aller vous faire foutre."

Present-day educators know how to teach a language. Both my children went to French immersion school and both are fluent in French. My son, in fact, won an award in high-school for speaking French. It was his highest academic achievement.

I still can not converse in French, but the bastards gave me a job anyway.

So to the Canadian government, I must say, once again, "Tu peux aller te faire foutre."

Pardon my French.

October 2, 2018, 30DBC Prompt:
We all have ‘pet-peeves’. Write about some of yours!

Pet Peeves for me are fleeting. Not much really bothers me. Some say it's because I just don't care. Some people would be right.

When something bothers me I either make some changes to eliminate the bothersomitty, or learn to live with it.

The one thing I can't seem to do either about is: People who say 'nothing' when they should be saying 'anything'

If I hear you say 'nothing' when you should be saying 'anything' I will correct you every time.

Now that I think about it about a billion other things bother me. I guess I really do care.

Everything I think of that bothers me starts with the word 'people'
Seems fair to say people bother me.
Stop bothering me, people.

October 1, 2018, 30DBC Prompt:
What are your goals for October? Personal or professional, big or small...doesn't matter! We want to encourage you!

I thought I would re-start my writing efforts here on WDC. I'll be getting laid-off from my work at the Pinawa Golf and Country Club, around mid-month, depending on the weather. I joined the maintenance crew this spring and have been busy with the upkeep of the course. I have a five-gallon bucket filled with golf balls I found along the way.

I have plans, which can't be trusted because they change.

We'll be participating in two craft shows before the year is out, and working to increase the online presence of our newly formed business venture

PandaPaws Licensed VetTech groped me once at a drunken panda pole dance party... jus saying *Shock2*

I wrote this a few years back. It still holds water today.

As for my world famous muse, Andre the Blog Monkey. He's on a spirit quest on an uncharted island in the Philipines.
The Banana Bar is haunted and will need a cleansing seance and a strong application of sanitizer before I can go back in there and do whatever it is I do in there.

Many miles before I sleep. Have a great day!

Did I say I have a five-gallon bucket of golf balls?

October 1, 2018

In case you were wondering... How I'm doing, where I've been, who I am or WTF, I've decided to put a little blog entry together to answer all these questions.

In case you weren't wondering... Go straight to the comments and explain why.

I think I'm turning fifty-seven years old tomorrow, but I'm actually turning fifty-eight. I skipped fifty-seven and repeated fifty-six. I'm not sure how that works.

Leslie and I returned to our home in the woods on the edge of a lake in Sunset Bay. We joined the Lac du Bonnet Lions' Club and acquired the cleaning/maintenance contract for the Lac du Bonnet Community Centre.

I posted a few updates on Facebook along the way.

AS SEEN ON FACEBOOK

More than 25 years ago, in the previous century, I was employed with The Winnipeg Commodity Exchange in the heart of Winnipeg's business district. During that time I was asked on many occasions, "Hey Joel, do you golf?" I always had the same reply... "No, I'm saving that activity for when I retire, so I can spend all day every day on the golf course." It's amazing how accurately my dreams for the future have been fulfilled. (Not EXACTLY how I envisioned it, but close enough.) Check it out...

I participated in two parades this summer. For the Canada Day Parade in Lac du Bonnet on July 1st, I played a part in the Lions' Club float. The parade theme was 'Fun On The Farm' and our float entry was titled, 'Lac du Bonett Hillbillies' ( I was am a hillbilly.

I also pulled the Pinawa Golf and Country Club's parade float (with the fairway mower) for their 125th anniversary of the Town of Pinawa Parade.

Sparing you the bad news and drama by making this entry public now, but I'll be back to edit this in preparation for the 30 Day Blogging Challenge's Unofficial October Challenge.

January 11, 12, 13, 14, 2018

My next few blog entries would be written on my phone I said.

I'd be blogging from an empty house in Regina, Saskatchewan I said.

Could you imagine my surprise when I learned, You can't write blog entries on your phone without an internet connection?

Leslie was able to get a connection, which I could have used, but I don't subscribe to using witchcraft.
That's her - That's not me.

Spending a few days together (Leslie and I) in an empty house is a surprisingly rewarding experience, if you make it so, and we did.

We attended two Regina Pats' hockey games, http://reginapats.com/

We dined at our favorite restaurant http://www.dawatindiaregina.com/

We had lunch with friends, and the time we spent in the empty house was full of conversation and fun. We missed an opportunity to play some indoor soccer, but that's me - that's not her.

Here I am, back in Sunset Bay, and back-blogging in the 30 Day Blogging Challenge.

Now that I'm making up the rules as I go along, and back-blogging is worth double points, I'm about to break a 30 Blog Challenge record for points in one blog entry by combining several blog prompts into one mega bonus point entry.

Here I go...

The Wildcard Round! This week's winner, from all eligible entries, will be drawn by Virtual Dice sometime this weekend. They'll get a Fundraising MB!

What do you think of crowd-sourcing? Have you done it or contributed to one before? Do you have limits as far as to what you'll contribute to? Think you'd ever run one?

Fun Fact Friday! On this day in 1998, 19 European nations agreed to prohibit human cloning. What are your thoughts on cloning? Would you consider doing it, if you were guaranteed the results would be used for ethical purposes? Or would you and your clone decide a life of shenanigans was more fun?

Creation Saturday! So, what's happening here?
** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only **

The Sunday News! Still on the lookout for any kind of good news, so I'm gonna be really lenient on this today. Give me your definition of leadership, and provide an example (if possible, or a poor example if necessary).

This is too easy so far. I'm going to up the ante by pre-blogging the January 15th, which of course is worth mega points too. bwah ha ha ha!

Motivational Monday! Lloyd Bridges , born on this day in 1913, once said "I'm foremost an actor. I feel embarrassed being compared to the guys who really work at it. I fake it, I make believe I know all about it, which is what you're supposed to do as an actor." What are your thoughts on this, in relation to the things you write?

I want to crowd-source this entry. I'm looking for feed-back on the new rules for back-blogging.

I've always wanted to be part of the crowd, yet, I don't really like being crowded.

I've looked at crowds from both sides now
From up and down and still somehow
It's crowds's illusions I recall
I really don't know crowds at all

Sorry Joni.

May we never see the day where I could be cloned.
As someone who has had the phrase "Well we can't all be you, can we?" directed at me, wouldn't it be great if I could now reply... "Yes, we can all be me."

Despite how marvelous an existence that would be, I'm against human cloning.

Just because we have the technology to do something, doesn't mean we have to do it.

We have the technology to end world hunger, but we don't actually do it.

And here we have a guy who really, really, really likes music, and he plays the drums. Problem is... he collected so much music and so many snare drums, he didn't have space to set up a drum kit or a turn table. So he stood there surrounded by his collection and thought, so what.

The good news is: This blog entry is coming to an end soon. I'm taking the 5th on this one. And that is wrong for so many reasons, but I've already got the highest score possible for the entry, so nrm.

When I read the name Lloyd Bridges, my thoughts were taken to the South Park episode when Randy became 'Steamy Ray Vaughn' and shits his britches. I'm not sure why I'm telling you this.

My favorite actors are mostly cartoon characters. Barney Rubble. Need I say more!?

I actually work very hard at my writing, which is a little sad, because a lot of the time it would appear that I just jotted down a bunch of random sentences, but really, I actually thought about this. True story.

See you tomorrow.
