Just shooting the poop with Lori |
He travels the world on the backs of others Insignificant in his stature and size His journey carries no mission Randomly roaming at the will of his host Sated enough to never question his trek Life is an open adventure without worry If the excitement of his dusty trail dulls Another bus awaits to grant passage With a furry friend to carry him home Ah the wonderful life of a flea |
There are many things that I have wondered often about the validity of their existence or better yet, the purpose of their presence here on earth. The appendix serves no vital purpose. It just kind of hangs around with a group of other organs waiting to cause trouble. Roly Poly bugs are cute but pretty much useless. This brings me to the real concern... the slug, a slimy and gross snake wannabe. Their unexpected appearance always startles me, If you find one more will close behind. They are not quick so you have time to season the deck with salt. The spineless creature leaves an unsettling goo in its wake. It sticks to shoes worse than any gum on the market. I think this will be the first question I might ask at the pearly gates. Hopefully, I won't be penalized for such a query. . |
She calls out in her mother's voice,"There is trash to be taken out and grass to be cut." A responding glare is the teenager' s response. Mama says, "Dinner is served when the chores are done." Like a zombie he walks to the kitchen and grabs from the cabinet a bag of chips. Stuffing his mouth as he walks away, mama gives a love tap to the back of the head. The teenager smiles and nods, as he says, "I'm not really hungry, yet." Mama's blood pressure rises as she glances at the overflowing trash. She is quite aware that nagging doesn't work. The tool she employs is subtraction of the things that he loves. "I think I will be keeping the car to myself if these things don't get done!" she hollers aloud for the child to hear. "That's okay. I wasn't going out tonight and I think it needs gas anyway," the boy mutters under his breath. The mama rolls her eyes as the steam shoots from her ears. She decides to use reason and guilt on the child. "i have been working all day and the least that you can do is help with the things I ask of you," she says with disdain. "Awe, mom, it's my summer vacation. I'm supposed to have fun.I got that job like you told me. That's going to eat up all of my free time," he whines. "Free time? What is that? I haven't seen that in twenty something years," with guilt's force great with this mama.. "I'll do it in a minute, mom.I promise" he responds. "Fine, when it is done you can have your phone back." Like a cannon he shoots out of the chair, quick to his tasks, and back again. He picked up his socks, watered the flowers, and swept the deck too. This fine teenager even picked a rose for his mama and made dinner for us all. I have always said the phone is a fantastic piece of technology! |
Bowling is not my forte, but I try! It is an awesome sport that gathers friends and family. I truthfully enjoy the social time more than the sport but I do take my score to heart. I change things up if something isn't working and listen to the advice of seasoned bowlers. My youngest son is incredible and he doesn't even act like he is embarrassed to bowl with his pitiful parents. I will hit the lanes when anyone asks. |
So my Boys, husband and youngest son. are home from summer camp with the Scouts. I had forgotten how the stench of outdoor little boy scent permeates the air. I about fell over when they entered. They had a good time but I may have to leave for a week until the house airs out. You would think being out in the fresh air would leave a fragrant aroma from the flowers and sweet grass. However, it is an overpowering sweaty scent of body odor, smelly sock, butt fungus, and mildew rolled into one that now resides in my home. Even after bathing the smell lingers like an invading muskrat. |
Global warming has caused the rain to fall consistently in my neck of the woods. The showers of April watered the flowers of May but continue to douse the baseball fields of June. The mountain caps have melted and sent a flood of tears. I caught sight of Noah's Ark floating by my window. The monkey and giraffe spewed a water fountain onto my lawn as they passed. The slip and slide my dog uses to travel out to do his business is buried beneath the mud. A child in a canoe used our roadway as his personal canal. Jesus fed 500 people from the fish living in our gully. I'm still waiting for the wine and bread. Cheese would be nice as well. In case you can't tell, it's raining again on my day off. I'm unamused! |
Nothing makes me happier than hearing my children talk about something good going on in their lives. Whether it's my oldest son telling me about his new relationship, his job, or classes that he is taking or my youngest son telling me how great of a camping experience he enjoyed with the archery and rifle shooting with Scouts. There is my daughter that fills my head with every detail of rehearsals for the Musical Mama Mia that she currently has a lead role.It makes for a good Mama moment knowing that they are all maneuvering through life's water's and are finding the joy in the waves. |
Happy Father's Day to all the men who took the time to make a child feel like the most important person in their lives. Thank you for digging worms for fishing, putting batteries in the millions of toys, laughing at the senseless knock-knock jokes, the Sunday morning wrestling matches, giving your daughter extraordinary hairdos that she believed were magical, camping on the wet cold ground with the boys through the many years of scouting, and always making them feel loved. Thank you for still cheering them on as they brave the adult waters. Anyone can be a Father, but a dad is a blessing that God plants on a child's path to guide and teach them about the majestic gifts of the world. Dads come in all sizes and shapes willingly ready to love the child placed in their care. They see no bloodlines only the sprout in need of water, sunshine and nutrients Their input is vital to the well being of the child. Dads teach strength, independence, faith, hope, and responsibility. Dad's teach humor, laughter and forgiveness. And just about any dad I've met, can hold their best in the family farting contest. |
Celebrating this Sunday with my husband, not only Father's day but our 30th wedding anniversary. I could not have chosen a better friend to ride with me on this roller coaster. He's the guy that tightens my seat belt to keep me safe, holds my barf bucket, listens to my shrieks of random fear, places his arm around me lovingly, tolerates the spittle that flies out of my mouth on the wild curves, withstands the pain as I bounce boisterously against him on the sharp turns, and still manages to hold my hand. He allows me to take a moment to breathe on the high scary hills without grief. Laughter and love have been our constant companions through our time on the rails Proudly, he in his faith and strength, long ago committed to being my partner for the journey. We added some side cars along the way to enrich the experience and mountain view, which served to bring more thrill, drama, and intensity to our roller coaster. There were certainly times that I worried that our car didn't have the needed "oomph" to make it up the hill, but together we pushed it to the top. Always, he has been willing to enjoy the fast and furious ride by my side. So I say thank you,John, not only for being my wonderful husband but fantastic father and seatmate. And I thank God everyday for sending you to me in the form of a fantastic blessing so many years ago. |
Got a closer look at being an empty-nester this weekend. It is a strange feeling but not as sad as I had expected. The best part is that no one is hitting me up for food or money every 5 minutes. My house has stayed relatively clean, no dirty plates or glasses within eye shot. My husband and I watched a program of our choosing. The drama level in the house was minimal. The dirty sock balls have vanished. My mowed yard looks free of long haired lines missed by the teenager. The outdoor little boy smell that lingered in the house that I had blamed on the dogs has mysteriously disappeared. My grocery bill for the weekend is considerably smaller. I might just be able to get used to this phenomenon. |
