Bush Fire

Man at the edge of the fire break,
waiting, sure that this will halt
the ravenous flames, he stands,
hands in pockets, face to the blast.

This fire will die as the bare land
turns its back, dry to desire.
Beyond, the blackened face of earth
will green with new growth in days.
