The second of my collections of poems written for "Express It In Eight."

Nutshell Shakespeare

Horatio, this gloomy night inspires
mind’s eye beyond the times so dark we fall
upon this blasted heath morbid and dire
and so to snag our haste in fear and pall?

But soft, what radiance doth break upon
this clime of black and evil thought in mind?
The lightning bolt of jagged light like sun
so brings the dawn of waking eye so kind.

Line count: 8
Form: Iambic pentameter
For Express It In Eight, 05.03.24
Prompt: Write a poem that includes these three words/phrases created by Shakespeare: gloomy, radiance, mind’s eye.
