A Journal to impart knowledge and facts
July 22, 2015

I'm going to start today to record on a daily basis whatever happens to strike my fancy. So, it is a very cool breezy day. I just posted 5 short book reviews to The Monthly Reading Challenge. I'm suppose to put away some winter wood today from the woodpile outside but I'm playing hookey from work to write so starting this blog will get done.

I'm having a daily fight with a flock of English Sparrows that are trying to take over my barn. They are making a terrible mess so they have to go. I have destroyed several nests so far they don't leave but they get out of the barn when I am around. I'm just starting the fight so I guess I don't know how far I have to go to discourage them.

I'm trying not to spread myself to thin on WDC because I find so many things that are interesting here and I am trying to work on a new story. I really enjoy sitting at my desk with a cup of tea and reading blogs on WDC.

Off to the Met to watch Beyonce and Jay Z.

Fairy playing a flute

{link: https://www.npr.org/2018/07/30/627395449/turning-the-tables-the-200-greatest-son...} So, I got side tracked with this link try listening to No. 197. Kaki King : Playing With Pink Noise. This was out in 2004. All the musicians on this list are from sometime after the year 2000.

I made a quick trip early yesterday to New York. Where I watched the release of Jared and the Mills Soul in the Mind. The band was being put through an intense interview.

I am awed by how much is on the island of Manhattan. Central Park is a great place. I brought a small fold up scooter otherwise I'll never keep up with everyone. The group is growing good. How cool scones at Lyn's. If its OK I'll stick to tea. I brought packs of Yerba Mate and Oat Straw. Enough so anyone else who wishes can join me.

Concert safety was a new one. They did let me through with my scooter. It was that or I rent a wheel chair, which I'm not ready for yet. Rain or shine, No umbrellas allowed.

The concert was loud and energetic. There were empty seats at the one in Philadelphia but all the stands were full plus the floor was full here. A large crush of people, well behaved for the most part. Although, I watched this concert in amazement.

After all, the absolutely astonishing voice of Beyonce combined with the hip hop and rap portrayed by Jay Z is astonishing. The total volume and showmanship of the performance was expected. I see messages within the content to the audience. How much of the message these two performers are sending is to influence culture or is it all an act to gain and stay popular enough to rule the register and the jing? As time moves on what will happen to this act. Did you see the performance at the Louvre? Do you think a better society can be built on the lyrics of this music as presented by Beyonce and Jay Z?

There will be a lively discussion about this over scones at Lyn's in the morning.

August travel: Chasing the Music

Fairy playing a flute

I knew it was going to be a late night. With temperatures at 84 degrees and humidity at 74 degrees I decided to rest, read by the pool and stay quiet.

We went to see Lydia, Jared and the Mills. I think for me I could have had a question about this concert. Lydia plays indie rock and Jared and the Mills are known for their leaning toward country rock.

Indie rock is a music that was founded in the UK. While, alternative is founded in the USA. Lydia is ranked 5058 in the top 10,000 bands. They are known also for their poetic lyrics. Some of their songs I liked and some not so much. I never really paid much attention to the small bands touring the USA. Some of them are really musical and may never get the recognition they deserve.

In any event, I prefer Jared and the Mills. They recently released a new song "Soul In Mind" which caught my attention. They don't seem to have a particular ranking. When I looked up reviews of their music I found a lot of favorable reviews for both bands.

The song I finally settled on is Talewind.I like the lyrics and the sound reminds me of things lost and found. It isn't a typical look at today's music scene.

The things I like about Jared and the Mills are fashioned from my childhood and youth. Grandma always told me the singers aren't worth much if you can't understand the words to the music. She was a music teacher in her day. These boys have crisp, clean voices. Jared wrote Messenger for a girl he lost track of.

I like the sounds Jared and The Mills put out. The musicians in the band really know their instruments. They are well coordinated as they play and the lead singer can move the lyrics with the music. In both of the songs I cited above they have original sounds. The songs tell a story. They don't count just on the chorus to carry them along. I first heard a western rock band at the festival on the canal in San Antonio, Texas in the 60's. The music is soul, rock, worked over with a touch of country.

*Jamming* Late nights make me sleepy. This time, the music rocked and the group (lyn/Blue Moon/and Prosperous Snow) were all rocking right along. Later, we stopped to share a late Ice Creme. I'm surprised the place was still open but places like Orlando never sleep.

Well. I'm off the the next stop. Keep the music flowing I'll learn more new musical*Clef* notes.
