My wife and I boarded the Janmabhoomi train at Visakhapatnam station to attend my friend’s daughter’s wedding at Rajahmundry.

The early morning breeze and the train’s rocking movement were soporific and we dozed off until the train halted at Tuni.

I hailed a passing vendor and asked for two cups of coffee.

I handed over one cup to my wife and took a sip. I complimented him on the coffee and asked, “How much?” as I opened my wallet to find that it had only 200-rupee notes.

Hearing his response of twenty rupees, I handed over a 200-rupees note to him.

“Don’t you have change?” he asked as he put down his flask and started searching for change in his shirt pocket.

The train started, before he could take the change out of his pocket and sped away.
Our compartment was next to the engine so he got no chance to hand over the change though he did attempt to run after the train.

I blamed myself for having ordered coffee without checking the availability of change.

“Oh my God! How foolish of you! Could you not have taken the change and then handed over the note?

What’s the use of your age and experience?”, my wife gleefully took the opportunity to snub me.

I tried to justify my action,“Okay, suppose he had given the change and the train had started before I could give him the note…then would it not have been a loss to him?”

“What loss? From morning, he would have met ten people like you and at the end of the day he will have only profit, no loss!” replied my wife, with a cynical smile on her face.

“We should trust people; poor fellow, what can he do if the train started?

Will he subsist on our money?”
My better half was irritated to hear me defending him.

“They wait for just such opportunities. If he meets four simpletons like you, it will be enough to earn a day’s living,” grumbled my wife glaring at me.

I maintained a stoic silence.

“Anyway, you cannot expect him be as honest and as principled as you are”, she concluded looking around at the other co-passengers, who were all looking at us.

The train had picked up speed and we crossed the next station Annavaram. Gradually, I let go of the slender hope that I had of getting back the change.
My wife believes that I get cheated by people since I have a naïve faith in mankind and am kind.

I was quite accustomed to being put down by her and being scolded since I believe that she is not correct in distrusting others.

I strongly believe that we should see goodness in others and if anyone lacks it, their baseness should be attributed to the environment and conditions in which they grew up.

I believe that inside each of us, there is the potential for both good and evil - what we choose depends on the circumstances.

Though I have been proved wrong by her on many similar occasions, it did not affect my faith.

I believe that dharma or righteousness is upheld by its fourth leg of trustfulness.

“Let it go! Poor people! Are they going to build palaces with our money?

Forget it!” I said trying to pacify her.

She stayed silent, out of her affection for me and I was in no mood to prolong the conversation.

The compartment was filled with many standing passengers.

I let my gaze slide outside to the fleeing fields. By then many of my co passengers were looking at me and assessing me according to their perception – some were thinking of me as a fool while others were looking at me with sympathy and pity; some were smiling to themselves about the free entertainment they had enjoyed and some were curious to see what would happen next.

By the time the train reached the outskirts of Pitapuram, all had lost their interest in us and were lost in their thoughts.

It was then that I heard a voice, “Sir, was it not you who bought two coffees and gave a 200- rupees note?”

I turned towards the voice. Pushing his way through the crowd was a teenage boy, who stopped in front of my seat.

Suddenly I felt elated though he did not look like the coffee vendor whom I remembered as being middle aged.

“Yes, Son! I did give a 200-rupee note to a coffee vendor but the train sped away before I could receive the change. However, I do not remember buying coffee from you,” I said honestly.

“Yes, Sir! But are you the person, who drank the coffee at Tuni station”, he asked me again.

“Why would I lie? If you want you can ask these people here.”

“No! No, Sir! I do not doubt you but I was just confirming to avoid making a mistake!” Saying this, he took out the change of 180 rupees from his pocket and handed it over to me.

“You are...?”
“I am his son, Sir”

I looked at him with surprise since he seemed to have guessed my doubt.

“Sir, every day one or two such incidents happen at Tuni station because the train does not stop for long.
In that short time many people panic, give a note and the train starts before they can receive back the change.

That is why, I usually board the train and wait. My father messages me giving details of the persons (of the amount, compartment and seat number) to whom the change has to be returned.

I return the change and get down at the next station and return back to Tuni by another train.

My father leaves some change with me for such transactions.”

I was surprised but still managed to ask, “Are you studying?”

“Tenth class, Sir! My elder brother helps father in the afternoon and I help him in the mornings”.

When I heard his this, I felt like talking to his father, so asked him for his father’s phone number and dialled the number.

“Your son has just returned the change for the 200-rupees note.
I am calling to express my appreciation for your actions. I am so very happy that you are not only educating your children but more important instilling in them the values of honesty and integrity”, I said complimenting him.

“That is very nice of you, Sir! I feel honoured that you are taking the trouble to call just to express your appreciation.
I have only studied up to fifth class. In those days, short stories about ethics and morality were narrated to us and textbooks also had material that strengthened values like honesty and integrity so we learnt to differentiate between good and bad, right from wrong.

It is those principles, which guide me to lead a trouble-free honest life.”

As I listened to his words on the phone, I was amazed by his words and thought process.

He continued, “But today those values are not taught in schools.
What children are taught these days is as unhealthy as giving spicy food to babies.
When my children were studying at home, I used to listen to them and I noticed that the curriculum no longer has moral stories, inspiring poetry or children’s books by Paravastu Chinnayasuri – nothing of value! That is why I entrust them with simple tasks like these to pass on the few values that I know.

That is all!” I was amazed by the foresight of this man and I just patted the son on his shoulders.

My wife was taken aback seeing the glow of joy on my face as I placed the 180 rupees, returned by the boy in my wallet. She gave me an apologetic sheepish smile because she knew that the joy was not for the money regained!

I remembered that in Srimad Bhagavatham, righteousness or dharma is described as Nandi the ‘bull’ who stands on four ‘legs’—austerity, cleanliness, kindness and trust or truthfulness.

The Bhagavatham also predicts that all the four legs will not be equally strong over epochs of time - representing the degree of decline of righteousness. In the world, during the Satya Yuga, the first stage of development, the bull would stand firmly on all four legs but as the yugas changed, one by one the legs would be broken and lost until finally in Kali-yuga (the present age) only truthfulness or trust would be the dominant form of Dharma or righteousness.

This humble coffee vendor’s action appears to be proof that as predicted righteousness or dharma still flourishes in this World though it is on its fourth leg of truthfulness.

As I watched the boy move down the compartment, I mentally saluted the coffee vendor!

An old man meets a young man who asks: “Do you remember me?”

And the old man says no. Then the young man tells him he was his student, And the teacher asks: “What do you do, what do you do in life?”

The young man answers: “Well, I became a teacher.”

“Ah, how good, like me?” Asks the old man.

“Well, yes. In fact, I became a teacher because you inspired me to be like you.”

The old man, curious, asks the young man at what time he decided to become a teacher. And the young man tells him the following story:

“One day, a friend of mine, also a student, came in with a nice new watch, and I decided I wanted it.

I stole it, I took it out of his pocket.

Shortly after, my friend noticed the his watch was missing and immediately complained to our teacher, who was you.

Then you addressed the class saying, ‘This student's watch was stolen during classes today. Whoever stole it, please return it.’

I didn't give it back because I didn't want to.

You closed the door and told us all to stand up and form a circle.

You were going to search our pockets one by one until the watch was found.

However, you told us to close our eyes, because you would only look for his watch if we all had our eyes closed.

We did as instructed.

You went from pocket to pocket, and when you went through my pocket, you found the watch and took it. You kept searching everyone's pockets, and when you were done you said ‘open your eyes. We have the watch.’

You didn't tell on me and you never mentioned the episode. You never said who stole the watch either. That day you saved my dignity forever. It was the most shameful day of my life.

But this is also the day I decided not to become a thief, a bad person, etc. You never said anything, nor did you even scold me or take me aside to give me a moral lesson.

I received your message clearly.

Thanks to you, I understood what a real educator needs to do.

Do you remember this episode, professor?

The old professor answered, ‘Yes, I remember the situation with the stolen watch, which I was looking for in everyone’s pocket. I didn't remember you, because I also closed my eyes while searching.’

This is the essence of teaching: one need to be humble always while teaching.

An Old Golfer was hitting his ball from near a water hazard and his club fell into the water.

When he cried out, the Lord appeared and asked, "Why are you crying?"

The golfer replied that his club had fallen into the water and he needed the club to have a chance to win the tournament and supplement his meager pension.

The Lord went down into the water and reappeared with a golden club.

"Is this your club?" the Lord asked.

The golfer replied, "No."

The Lord again went down and came up with a silver club.

"Is this your club?" the Lord asked.

Again, the golfer replied, "No."

The Lord went down again and came up with an old iron club. "Is this your club?" the Lord asked.

The golfer replied, "Yes, that’s it!"

The Lord was pleased with the golfer's honesty and gave him all three clubs to keep, and the golfer won his tournament and went home happy.

Sometime later, the golfer was walking with his wife along the water hazard, and she fell into the lake.

When he cried out, the Lord again appeared and asked him, "Why are you crying?"

"Oh, Lord, my woman has fallen into the water!"

The Lord went into the water and reappeared with Kate Upton. "Is this your woman?" the Lord asked.

"Yes," cried the golfer.

The Lord was furious. "You lied! That is an untruth!"

The golfer replied, "Oh, forgive me Lord. It is a misunderstanding. You see, if I had said 'No' to Kate Upton, you would have come up with Jennifer Anniston. Then if I said 'No' to her, you would have come up with my woman. Had I then said 'Yes,' you would have given me all three. And Lord, I am an old man not able to take care of all three women in a way that they deserve... so that's why I said 'Yes' to Kate Upton.

And God was pleased.

The moral of this story is:

*If a golfer ever tells a lie, it is for a good and honourable reason and only out of consideration for others*🤷‍♂️😃🏌️‍♂️😉.

When women are changing, men ought to change or prepare themselves for the change.

In an evolving world girls/women are changing... boys/men need to change too...,
For at least two generations now – especially in urban India and educated middle-class families – we have raised our girls to be confident and fight for their rights.
But we seem to have ignored an entire generation of boys who were not told anything about how their sisters were changing.
While we gave our daughters new ideals and role models, no one bothered to tell their brothers that they ought to change too!

Girls drive two-wheelers and cars.
It is considered an essential life skill. You can often hear dads proudly proclaiming that their daughters can drive very well indeed and they don’t need a father/husband/brother to take them anywhere.

However, boys were never taught that cooking is an essential life skill. You don’t see parents proudly saying that their son can cook and doesn’t need a mother/wife/sister to feed him _(and keep him alive!)._

We don’t tell our sons that it is okay for them to be paid less than their wives or stay at home to take care of the kids while their spouses continue to work.

Men want to marry a working woman _(in theory)_ but are completely unprepared for the practical reality of a marriage where both partners work.
It means doing the dishes or supervising the maid when your wife has a report to complete, it means taking half the day off to take care of your sick son because your wife has an important presentation. It may even mean giving up a promotion or moving to a new city for your spouse’s career.

Because we don’t tell our sons all this, they continue to expect that their wife will automatically give up the job/promotion/transfer in favour of the family whereas they will never have to take a step back from their own careers.

Boys are still raised the way they were for the last many generations.

Women are upset that dinner – and the house, kids, in-laws, maid – is still their responsibility while the men don’t know what they did wrong. After all, they *‘allow’* their wives to work, what more do they want?

*Let us not only empower women, but also prepare men to set their expectations right*

One who has merged into his true nature is a yogi. Prosperity or poverty does not affect him. Do you take yourself to be different from your name? The name is only the letters. Are you those letters? The name has been given to the body. At present, the body has become your identity and the name has become yourself. It has become a habit. That is the influence of maya. Can you tell me about yourself when you are not the body nor the name given to the body?

How would you look if you say,
‘I am not the name, nor am I the body’?
Then what name can be given to you?
And after all, what is consciousness?
Is it not love, or taste, or flavor, that remains after leaving out the body and the name? What would one want when he is like this? Consciousness is love itself. That is the bliss unasked for in the feeling ‘I am’. It transcends the body. It is not of the form of the body.
Without consciousness is there God, or the world?
How do we look at ourselves while in the body?
It is pure luminosity. Its symbol is light. The light of consciousness means the light of Atman. It has no form. It has no divisions. It is without the body and the name. It is like space.

What comes first, space or your consciousness? When there is no consciousness, there is no world. How
long does the world last? As long as one is awake. One who has realized the Self is a great yogi. God, Guru and consciousness are the same for him.

The sensation ‘I am’ is the beginning of time. First of all, consciousness arose and then the world was seen in it.
Did anyone do anything to create it?
When consciousness disappears, the world disappears at that very moment.
What happened to the big mountains?
Who swallowed them?
No one, because the world was false, an illusion. With the birth of the knowledge ‘I am’, the world comes into existence. Both happen simultaneously.

Do not say you have understood. Be aware of what you have continuously heard. The use of the body is for consciousness through which we know ‘we are’. It is the essence of food. One who sees the dream has to be the originator of the dream.
Is it not so?
To use consciousness means to convince us of this and behave accordingly.

Only a Guru can give true advice. The rest give consolation with false concepts. Consciousness is universal.
God, Guru and ‘I’ are all its names. The common name is Brahman. It is there as long as there is the word (manifestation).
Its characteristic is knowingness. This manifested, all-pervading Brahman merges into the Absolute. It has no identity of its own. It is timeless.

The foundation of our way of spirituality is self-attentiveness. The Sadguru is beyond time. He has no coming and going. Is it not so that one knows the Absolute and, also, is it not so that one does not know it?
(It is our true nature, but it has no duality.) The body is the food for consciousness. Prana eats that food, not the Self. Prana carries out all actions. One who clearly knows that he is not the body does not suffer from worldly gain or loss, pleasure or pain. The knower of prana is consciousness. It only witnesses.

Can you take a fistful of Bombay to your village? The same is true of God. From the point of view of the Paramatman, you are prior to the world. From the point of view of the jiva, the world is first and then you.
The jnani does not require any outside glory. Identification with the body and its name is ego. As long as the fear of death is there, you have not realized yourself. Dwell only on what you know before experiencing the
world. Think on the metaphor of the dream i mentioned earlier.

For a man the company of a woman means desire. Where there is desire, there is expectation. Where there is expectation, there is hope. Where there is hope, there is bondage. The cause of bondage is desire. Where there is ‘I’ and ‘you’, there is pure delusion. Where there is no ‘I’ and ‘you’, there is pure Brahman.

1. " LAUGH - Even when you feel too sick or too worn out or tired.
SMILE - Even when you're trying not to cry and the tears are blurring your vision.
SING - Even when people stare at you and tell you your voice is crappy.
TRUST - Even when your heart begs you not to.
FROLICK - Even when you are made fun of.
KISS - Even when others are watching.
SLEEP - Even when you're afraid of what the dreams might bring.
RUN - Even when it feels like you can't run any more.

And ALWAYS REMEMBER, Even when the memories pinch your heart. Because the pain of all your experience is what makes you the person you are now. And without your experience---you are an Empty Page, a Blank Notebook, a Missing Lyric.
.
What makes you BRAVE is your Willingness to LIVE THROUGH your life and Hold your Head UP HIGH the next day. So Don't live LIFE in fear. Because you are stronger now, after all the crap has happened, than you ever were back before it started.”

2. " TRUST that everything happens for a Reason, even if we are not wise enough to see it.........".

3. " You have to FORGIVE People. We don't have to like them, we don't have to be friends with them, we don't have to send them hearts in text messages, but we HAVE TO Forgive them, to Overlook, to Forget. Because if We Don't, we are tying rocks to our feet, Too much for our wings TO CARRY.......".

SO TRUE..........

*Krishna* was born in the darkness of the night, into the locked confines of a jail.

However, at the moment of his birth, all the guards fell asleep, the chains were broken and the barred doors gently opened.

Similarly, as soon as *Krishna* (Chetna, Awareness) takes birth in our hearts, all darkness (Negativity) fades.

All chains (Ego, I, Me, Myself) are broken.

And all prison doors we keep ourselves in (Caste, Religion, Profession, Relations etc.) are opened.

And that is the real Message And Essence of Janmashtmi.

Animals grow transversely. That is why they are called "tiryak" in Sanskrit. Man who grows upright ought to have, unlike beasts, a high ideal before him. He will then obtain more happiness than all other creatures. But what do we see in reality?

Man experiences greater sorrow than all other creatures. Animals do not know so much desire, so much sorrow and so much humiliation, as do humans. More important, they are innocent of sin. It is we humans who keep sinning and suffering as a consequence.

In one sense it seems to me that Isvara has not endowed us with the same advantages that he has endowed animals with. We are not fitted with weapons of defense. If a cow feels threatened it has horns to defend
itself. The tiger has its claws. We have neither horns nor claws. Sheep have hair to protect them from the cold of winter, so too other animals. But man is not similarly equipped. So he cannot repulse an attack; nor can he run fast like the horse, which has no horns but is fleet-footed. Against all these handicaps, man has the advantage of being more intelligent than all other creatures.

But, even with his superior intelligence, man suffers. All hardships stem from the fact of birth. How can one save oneself from being born again? But, then, what is the cause of our birth? The wrongs committed by us are the cause of our birth and we have taken this body of flesh and blood to suffer punishment for the same. Suppose a certain number of whiplashes are to be administered according to the law. If the body perishes after ten lashes, we take another birth to suffer the remaining strokes. The sins we commit in satisfying our desires are the cause of our being born again and again. If there is no "doing", there will be no birth also. Anger is responsible for much of the evil we do and desire is at the root of it. It is of the utmost importance that we banish desire from our hearts. But it is not possible to remain without any action after having cultivated so many attachments. If the attachments were done away with we would cease to sin.
