In my view, the primary focus should be on encouraging the writers to write. I do not review items I don't enjoy anymore because I see it as a waste of my time. So, if you get a review from me, I enjoyed reading your work. The amazing thing about this whole process is that reading an inspiring review usually leads to me reading more of a reviewer's work also. So, it's a win-win.

I will not review...
something I do not like. I do not enjoy writing hyper-critical reviews. I do NOT believe that "honesty" is a synonym for "mean." If I see someone being "mean" here on the public reviewing page, in group behaviors, or just acting as a bully I will not send them my reviews. The only exception to that would be judging a site contest - there all items get honest (and hopefully diplomatic) reviews of the work from me with no exceptions.

*Cool**Idea*I thought about a long marriage that's full of love and adventures. This made me smile and think of my own marriage of more than 30 years now. A lifelong journey, to be sure. It's all part of the learning, loving and laughing, isn't it?

I particularly enjoyed your leaf imagery at the end.

*Thumbsup*Oh, a lot of it rang a bell with me, but this part hit home:

"I’d run my fingers through your hair,
The hair that’s no longer there.
We’d travel far and wide
Just we two, side by side."

We traveled a lot to Ireland, that's why. He still has most of his hair, although it's white now instead of blond. You never know where that journey will take us.

*Cool**Idea* I thought about taking care of those we love. There is no greater happiness than making someone we love comfortable and happy. It is nice when the wind and other things cooperate, as in the title.

*Cool**Idea*I thought about falling in love when we are young and being unsure of what would happen. It's a scary thing to contemplate even through the prism of many years. You never know if you don't try.

This poem says young love to me and it's wonderful to read about all that anxiety and the nervous feelings that I still remember.

You did that remarkably well with a fresh perspective.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

There are a lot of favorite parts, but this one stands out:

"It’s not like saying
I love the Cubs,
Or I love root beer,
But I love you.
Those words are beautiful.
Those words are scary.
They are words I want to say,
I need to say,
I have to say."

I understand the love of a baseball team, believe me. That's pretty deep and long lasting.

I thought this was wonderful.

*Cool**Idea* I think that too much harmony can be dull. I am sympatico with these sentiments. You need some spice and disagreements over the years to liven things up.

Love has to weather a lot of tests as the years go by.

This part hit home:

"After she saved us both that night,
By wrenching at the steering wheel;
Every thought was on my plight,
To call for help with my ordeal.
Hospitals... are the true reveal."

Handling hospitalization is pure agony. As with every hard thing, it can show us a lot if we are willing to see it.

I loved that you wrote this for a prompt I gave in W. Cramp. This first line sticks with me:

"All the valentines in the world
could be shredded to confetti,
tossed and recycled,
But you would know I still love you."

Who needs valentines with a love so fine as this. Bravo!

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea*Marshmallow clearly has a mind of his own. Well, it's a dog's nature to explore. I think that in space it would be even more difficult to sniff things out properly. Marshmallow's adorableness will see him through. Same with my basset hound. Adorableness is the universal language of dog.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

I liked that, at the end, the searching one had a change of heart about posting for someone to "find" Marshmallow. Charm will be the saving grace here, charm with an extra dose of common sense, backing away from trouble.

Very imaginative and engaging story. The video was full of cute antics, too.

*Cool**Idea*I like how you show us that Joey is nervous, without giving away the ending. You convey a lot about his character and his happiness for others in a very short story. Some people give away things because they are so honest in their reactions and responses to situations. Joey certainly seems like one of these sorts of characters.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

At first I thought you were going in another direction when the story took a twist and surprised me in an equally satisfying (maybe more really) way at the end. I think did a fine job of engaging me, as a reader, and getting me interested right away. I think that is because Joey is such a likable character.

*Cool**Idea*I thought this was very funny. You present a situation that could be dramatic, as it is fraught with peril, but it ends up being very humorous.

You do a fine job with presenting the characters and their behaviors, using just dialogue. I take it that is the point of the exercise. It all flows very naturally and seems in keeping with the odd situation that it presented.

Lots of humor went into this and I could picture it happening from what is written.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

I particularly enjoyed how the policeman offers helpful defense suggestions. It is as if he wants to help Mr. Broderick out of his predicament even though he has to take him into custody. That helped me to feel sympathy for the officer, dealing with this. You get the feeling that he's seen similar things before, thus the "sigh".

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I thought about the meaning of the words. I know, from past experience with reading your work, that each word is carefully chosen to be consistent with the title and the message.

We all are creatures of habit in this life, whether we realize it or not. There is a repeating pattern of behavior that runs in cycles. Epiphany in the title, to me, refers to the moment that we have an awakening to what we are doing.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

The key word that sticks with me the most here is "rituals". This is a brilliant choice as one might not see reactions to events in this context. It sort of forced me to take a step back and look at my own reactions to things. For some reason, this time of year is a bit rough at the year's beginning. I do not know why, but I have a tendency to overreact and leave things in the "dust" that you refer to.

This is a very thoughtful piece of writing and it forces the reader to take a step back and see the big picture when it comes to reactions and behaviors.

*Cool**Idea* I like how you build the reader's interest, using quick-paced dialogue. I was curious and read eagerly through your story to see what was up. It certainly seemed at first like a most peculiar couple of conversations.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

I liked especially that two fire brigades showed up. That sort of made me chuckle at the fact that the notion of a naked lady brings levity to what could be a very tragic situation. It will make it memorable in the telling of the event, also. Comedy and tragedy are sometimes very close together. This definitely took a welcome and comedic turn.

I liked how cool the officer was too - this fits with what I've seen when I've seen people pulled over.

I thought it was very well written and all your words were carefully chosen. I enjoyed reading it and hopefully Brian isn't a budding arsonist and just misbehaved and will know better next time. He seemed to regret his choices already - or at least that's the feeling I got.

I think you did a fine job with this. It is good to realize what we have might be fine. It is good to know that we are fortunate in a lot of ways. Not that many people really see what they have in life before they lose it due to age or whatever.

*Cool**Idea*I thought about how Amazon steps in to do a lot when there is trouble. So sorry to read about Rudolph and hope he makes a full recovery.

Santa is resourceful and knows who to call. I guess with all his years of experience there would logically be a back-up plan of action. So, Christmas is cancelled, but will amazon create the illusion of Christmas? Will they call it Bezos-mas?

I liked the humorous banter between Mr. and Mrs. Claus. It is good to maintain a positive attitude and look to thinking outside the box in order to find a solution.

That sounds like the kind of thing they would say to each other at amazon, doesn't it? I enjoyed reading your story and was glad it was fictional for Rudolph's sake.

What does tHiNg think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea*I thought about my own marriage which is a long time. It is good to feel so positive about those we love more than a decade (or three in my case) of being together.

There is also some humor in this. I think it takes a sense of humor to make a relationship stand the test of time in appreciating that we all change physically as the years creep over us. It is what is inside that counts and that becomes clearer as I age.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

I liked the rhyme and the message that is here that one appreciates a romantic love, but also a constant one based in friendship. That's how I took it anyway.

What does tHiNg think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I thought about how you convey a lot in this short, 24 syllable poem. The first part is idyllic, how it should be and how we would all love it to be.

The last line, with the shoving to get to the food, is more realistic from my experience. This is how the young ones tend to behave at times. *Cool**Idea* I thought about what an unruly group of siblings mother nature has to cope with in the seasons. You personify them just right, with spring being the most flighty and headstrong. I find that to be the case every year.

But they never seem to be able to stick to that plan do they? I wrote as summer continued to linger way into October. *Headbang*


What does tHiNg applaud about while reading your item?

I thought this was timely and very amusing. It helps to picture the seasons as troublesome children who will not listen. If only they and everything could be so organized, eh? But that's a dream that will rarely come true and never all sticking to the plan in one year. I don't think that's ever happened in my lifetime that I can remember. There is always one outlier or renegade in the mix.

This year I long for fall in the same way I thought that there wasn't any spring. We went right from winter to summer, you just can't please me I reckon. *Laugh*

Your story is very entertaining and timely and it made me smile. Very fine!

*Cool**Idea* This made me laugh out loud, which is a good thing. The poor guy can't say much right can he? He reminds me of Moseley on Downton Abbey. Are you familiar with that hapless character? If he were ever to propose, I anticipate something along these lines and he's supposed to be in the 1920's. He rarely gets much right.

Trying to be politically correct in these current confusing times inevitably leads into a lot of trouble. I feel great empathy for the young man in this as I laugh at him. Truly, I do. *Laugh*

What does tHiNg applaud about while reading your item?

*Thumbsup* To me a comedy story should make one laugh out loud and yours did that. I can hear it in my head as dialogue. It reminds me of some of the complicated, fast talking on a TV show called, The Gilmore Girls. This snappy dialogue could be at home on any TV show or movie and leave the viewer/reader very amused in the process.

In other words, I loved it!

What does tHiNg think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I thought about the amusing banter between these hapless burglars. At first it seems like Mort is the brains of the outfit and in many ways he is. However, Jimmy seems more in touch and intuitive - at least more observant of his surroundings and because of that he has a better time of it and more coping skills.

The foreshadowing is deliciously ominous.

The love of a kitty cat can be a very powerful force. I liked the plans for Marie, also. Jimmy presents a much more sympathetic character and Mort is the self-appointed leader of the expedition. He's a bit full of himself and needs his just deserts delivered in such a shocking and magical way, if you ask me. He ignores Jimmy's admonitions at his ultimate peril.

What does tHiNg applaud about while reading your item?

*Thumbsup* I thought your story was very well told and chillingly amusing, which goes right with reading it in this month leading up to Halloween. Your descriptions took me right there with you and all the dialogue seemed very true to character and situation, with many a chuckle at these inept thieves.

What does tHiNg think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* This was very amusing for everyone but the husband. He has a reckoning coming his way. I was wondering what a taste for "ear" might do to a kitty cat. I won't get my haircut without thinking about that ear of his. Very memorable.

I guess it's a lesson about being careful what you wish for with the wife and not to fully trust for the husband.

What does tHiNg applaud about while reading your item?

*Thumbsup* I was amused by how quickly the wife adapted to and adjusted for the change in circumstances. At any cost, she wants to avoid being discovered for her mistake. Then there is how easily the husband was led to believe things had changed because of a different perspective. He does not come off as too bright in this whole scenario, while the wife seems to be in control of everything except the cat. While that is technically true, it seems as if the husband is easily led, which is pretty amusing and inspiring.

The prospect of the kitty taking more ear bites looms over the whole proceedings in a macabre and amusing way for everyone but the guy who has the ears in question.

This was inspiring of giggling in a chilling and frightening way. I respect all cats and give them their space. *shivers* It is also a voyage into the macabre for October reading and I appreciate that very much!

What does tHiNg think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I think that everyone who has ever had to work for a living will identify with your protagonist. Somewhere along the way a bully boss was encountered. It never seems to lead to anything good. The fight is a way to get some power back I reckon. The line is sort of blurred between good and evil once the trouble boils up.

I could picture it happening and the building rage. Well, you never know what will tip the scales toward catastrophe in one corner and jubilant victory in another. The analogy to the bad step parent scenario seemed to be an apt one.

What does tHiNg applaud about while reading your item?

*Thumbsup* The last bit about giving an incorrect name implies that our hero felt this was a doomed adventure right from the start.

I liked picturing the boss in this corner. It was a satisfying conclusion to a troublesome relationship. Very amusing also!

The first person narration is a good choice as it makes it easy for the reader to identify with our hero.

Don't feel bad about being disqualified. It's happened to me before as recently as last January, it happens. Just in the future read and reread the rules carefully before submitting is my best advice. That is what I am trying to do with my own stuff.

What does tHiNg/hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I thought about your syllables per line. You have a good rhythm going here. You maintain a couplet rhyme scheme throughout, using ten or less syllables.

My favorite lines are where you keep it to seven syllables, which you do a lot.

Watching syllable count is a tHiNg I like to do. Shakespeare kept it consistent and he did pretty well.

What does tHiNg/hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

This part was my favorite couplet:

Ladybugs were crawling everywhere! (9 syllables, so still under 10)
Some were even in my hair! (7 syllables)

This could explain the itchy in your barn. Well, it even made me itch a little and also made me smile.

Greetings and salutations!!

I saw this poll and decided to take it but none of the choices applied, so here is a review with my thoughts.

I appreciate any and all reviews as long as they aren't mean or personally insulting or deliberately discouraging.

So, someone saying "Good job" means a lot to me. When I have met famous authors, I get shy and tongue tied and all I can say is I love your work. I could say a lot more, but it is a pat on the back I reckon. Some days logging in and seeing something that says "I enjoy your writing" can mean the difference between logging out for a day or a month to me. Or I connected with what you said is a big deal to me. I love it as a reader when I connect strongly to what I read.

There have been some here who are so kind and thorough and I give them points to show my appreciation, which is heartfelt.

There are also those here who wrote me detailed things where they tore me to shreds. Not the writing always, me personally. Or maybe it is hard to separate the two. I think sometimes the detailed critique-y-ers (sp?) don't know the difference there. Some of the ones who are most vain about their reviewing, don't have a clue what they are on about. And I say that as someone who regularly rewards public reviewers.

Like the Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart once opined, "I know it when I see it" when it comes to a good review. He was talking about something different, but the same thing applies.

Ratings are subjective opinions that I respect. I mark the later stuff so they can't rate it, and just tell me what they think though. Maybe I am contradicting myself there, but it's my choice.
