In my view, the primary focus should be on encouraging the writers to write. I do not review items I don't enjoy anymore because I see it as a waste of my time. So, if you get a review from me, I enjoyed reading your work. The amazing thing about this whole process is that reading an inspiring review usually leads to me reading more of a reviewer's work also. So, it's a win-win.

something I do not like. I do not enjoy writing hyper-critical reviews. I do NOT believe that "honesty" is a synonym for "mean." If I see someone being "mean" here on the public reviewing page, in group behaviors, or just acting as a bully I will not send them my reviews. The only exception to that would be judging a site contest - there all items get honest (and hopefully diplomatic) reviews of the work from me with no exceptions.

*Cool**Idea* I enjoyed reading your take on the prompt.

I noticed one thing to mention - in the last sentence of the first paragraph you repeat the word "all" and the phrase "all in the" a couple of times. That is just a small thing that is easily fixed.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

I like how you have them go away to reconvene another day. In light of the happenings in the story, that seems like a good and logical solution. I wondered who was the source for the laugh, a mystery for another day no doubt.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* The picture looks so sweet and innocent. That makes the chipper tone totally consistent with what I see, but then the words and the title (especially) tell a different tale.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

This part sticks with me:

"Mayhem loyally follows
as she wreaks havoc everywhere."

This could be applied to upbeat and chipper politicians who happily swipe at each other with no care in the world for the people whose lives they have a devastating impact on. I took it and the title to be a metaphor for the current situation going on in Washington.

That is probably just me extrapolating onto a far-flung tangent. Poor unicorns, eh?

Brilliant poem, whether you meant it to be political or not. I guess each of us, as readers, bring our own whatevers to the reading table.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I like how you review the past year of 2018 and gently chide yourself, while giving yourself praise. It is something admirable (as well as risky) to keep going when physical challenges get in the way.

You sound like you have a good handle on what needs to be done.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

I think it is good to have reasonable and concise goals. You present them very well, in a way that others can identify with. It is always good to remember to be humble.

Always remember just because people/writers have been here a long time it does not mean they have more of a clue than you do. You might have more of a clue than they do. It's highly probable that is the case. Don't let any "reviewer" be the last word on "your" writing. You have your own voice and it should soar in the year ahead. They might "honestly" (that word gets bandied about a lot) be wrong with their pronouncements. That happens more than you might think at most levels. Certain words are like a red cape in front of me and they set me off. Then I cool off. Everything's chillax in my barn.

We have all said something to someone here that we might like to take back when the waters are calm. You are not alone in that feeling or in doing that. It is good to recognize whatever and move on. It sounds like you are well on your way to a productive and rewarding year.

I hope that is the case and I enjoyed reading your letter to yourself. Well done!

I clicked on the Read and Review option and it brought me to your story. Halloween is a favorite time in my house so I'm always happy to read tales of October fright.

Beth has had enough, hasn't she? Sounds like her mother is a piece of work and her friends are users of the Hollywood hanger-on type.

In the end, I read it as she leaves them to their own destruction. Sometimes, that can be more effective than any planned revenge. Loved the ending with the ghost dancing up the walk. I hope I got where you were going with this - I enjoyed reading it!

I clicked on the Read and Review option on the left side of the screen and it brought me to your examples of different characters' first person point of view. It definitely presents a contrasting approach to what is happening with the driving and the accident, and in the offer to accompany her Dad in the first place.

I thought it was very revealing that they both heard different things when the Dad agreed to let her drive. The fact that the father doesn't feel well and the daughter doesn't pick up on that in the least is pretty realistic for the teen years.

I enjoyed reading this and seeing the different approaches presented. I think you did a fine job! *Thumbsup*

Your rhyme is good and it flows very well. Looking back on all the ups and downs of family life, it is hard to also think of losses endured along the way. The good times seem to outweigh the bad in a family life well lived.

This part resonated with me:

"On our birthday the kids were sweet
Saved their pocket money to buy us a treat."

Kids are lovely like that, aren't they?

Very moving and inspirational - everyone should have such a wonderful and full life with love and lots of family.

*Cool**Idea* This is about trying to focus on a point in time as life is happening. We try and capture what would be the title, the eye of the storm and savor that moment.

It is not always so easy to realize what is happening as it is going on. It all goes by so fast as it speeds up and I get slower.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

This was my favorite part:

"Garish light fades to crystal pinpoints –
jewels that shine with the brilliance
of the tears behind the Carney's eyes. "

There are those moments, aren't there? I think of my wedding and a few others. The moment I realized that my husband would survive his medical ordeal. There are bits and pieces of brilliance in all our lives is we have the energy or the awareness (I guess) to stop and just focus on the good.

Usually, I lose track and only know things way after the fact. That is the challenge, to know what is happening when it's going on.

Of course, it is not straightforward. Life isn't that way.

Brilliant poem about a wild and adventurous ride (if we are lucky). Well done!

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I thought about what is important in life and what we value. I have seen some fake stuff that surprised me on this website over the years. It is the kind of thing you don't really want to see and would rather not know. People put a lot of store in the wrong thing and sometimes bragging is the order of the day.

If you lose sight of your values in real life it is much more consequential. I think this is about an overwhelming event that takes over and guides instead of having positive lights guiding the way.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

This part stays with me:

"Where tired souls fade in the pursuit of glittering facades
Where the big screen knows your name but those who've grown up calling it cannot be heard"

I see an echo of this here on a small stage. Sometimes those who want to know us in the beginning don't care to when they feel elevated. I think we see them again on their way down, though. That's the way life rolls. So, you either get disgusted and opt out or you hang in there to catch whoever when they fall. Sometimes the decision is one that can rest on the heart. That is why forgiveness can be divine, I reckon.

*Cow* You sent me an invitation. I am very excited about our next campfire. This is a great idea.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

I am actually a big fan of Cary Grant also. I have seen most of his movies. I made the mistake of reading a biography written about him by Dyan Cannon where she said he gave away her dog to get even with her when they were married. I wish I hadn't read that, but he's not alive to defend himself and she's an ex-wife so you never know.

Johnny Depp is a great actor. If I were to say my favorite living one, I don't know anymore.

I really like Dan Stevens who played Matthew in Downton Abbey. And I liked Tom Hanks early romance stuff.

Denzel Washington can usually pick a good script. Who else? I am not sure. I think the ones I really like (like Cary Grant and Gable and some others) are all deceased. Weird to think that. I liked Kevin Spacey, but I sort of think his career is over for now.

Thanks to his own bad behavior and Me Too zealots. Well, time will tell.

I am looking forward to our campfire fun. Always a pleasure!

*Cool**Idea* It is lovely when things come together and they are right. It is memories that are made for future generations to ponder as a timeless union begins.

That our special day has come"

My big day took place in winter so it is appropriate to read this now and to remember. I think that we identify with all the hope that is wrapped up for the future.

*Cool**Idea* I think that a warm-hearted mouse is the perfect guardian of a house with so many kitty cats around. It's sweet and pleasant to think of the little guy opening the door wide to visitors. Hope festive!

I am reading and reviewing your item at 10 something AM WDC time, and storing it in my review tool for later delivery, after the contest winners are announced. As per the contest rules, no subsequent revisions or edits were considered in writing this review.

This is done so that I can give the next prompt at noon and announce the winner as close to that time as possible. I don't review much anymore for this, but I decided to today because all the entries are stellar. I used to send a lot of reviews here until one time I sent eight or so and no one said anything. Then I decided to put that aside for a while.

What does HOOves think about and contemplate while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I think that it is good that there is mystery in what happened. He is not entirely sure, but has an overwhelming feeling that it is a message from a much beloved sister.

What does HOOves applaud and moo about while reading your item?

*Thumbsup* I liked Jon's strong connection to his sister and the fact that he is obviously devoted to her memory in a positive way that compels him to move forward in both actions and in his thinking.

I thought your story title was excellent (it's a pretty important part of the work for me) and you conveyed a lot of emotion through compelling and very organized storytelling.

I thought it was sad about the Mom dying and anyone would understand his anger, if they knew what the situation was. He can't face that she died helping him so it's connected to the bad acts of the bullies toward the Koala.

*Thumbsup* I think that bullies can do a lot of damage that they might not foresee. It sounds like Ace has a lot of insight about his Mom and what she would have wanted. Whether he gets to that and forgiveness (if they express any remorse) is another question for character development.

You have an interesting story in the works here and a good beginning to the back story for your main character. Nice work!

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* We waited way too long to get a dog, ourselves. There is nothing like the love of a faithful and engaging dog family member. All the other stuff (like it does with kids) fades in comparison to what we got out of it. She picked us, though, not the other way around.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

*Thumbsup* The "rabbit" part was amusing as the neighbor had a large pet rabbit who she babied. I think when you fall in love with a family member like this, all the other stuff fades away.

*Cool**Idea* I like what you have done with the prompt. It is as if the feelings were meant to be and could not be avoided by the passive participant who now wants to be in charge, with certain requirements stated. That is how a lot of relationships get started - with the "falling in love" metaphor playing a large part.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

*Thumbsup* This is my favorite part:

"Leave me never
For now my heart’s door has
Closed once again
With you inside."

So, the choice is with the beloved, but there are consequences that are implied with choices. I like how you have chosen a word order that isn't what I might have expected with the "leave me never" working very well indeed.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea*The message is that the feeling of love and affection are what last and resonate, not today's shopping bargain of the moment. So, it isn't about "stuff" we require ourselves to get or the so-called good deals that are offered.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

This is my favorite part:

"Turning kinda crazy
And with no shot for this bug,
We buy silly things,
One shopping cart cannot lug."

It all leads to us feeling like we repeat ourselves yearly about the true meaning of the season. Just retreat to watch some Hallmark movies and all will be well, I guess.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I thought about what the future might hold. This seems to predict things from the past that people still believe might happen, but we do not know when.

I notice that the first line of the next to last stanza, you have "breath" when you mean to write "breathe", I believe.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

We never know what will happen in the future if we don't take care of things. This is an ominous warning for a celebration that adapts to things that are not enjoyable to us now.

Very creative and clever! Looking back, I wonder what you think about this now - probably it is that you would reiterate your point.

I clicked on the Read and Review option and it took me to your poem. Since we have about 10-12 inches of snow on the ground and more is on the way, it seemed like a good time to travel in my mind back to the Chesapeake Bay where I spent some summers of my youth.

You are missing an image here that you might want to remove the link for.

This made me hungry for Crabs and Old Bay Seasoning, yum yum.

You definitely create a mood and an atmosphere of the storm coming, but also of the location of your poem.

Nicely crafted - thanks for the memory! It made me feel homesick in a good way. I could have been there this weekend, but decided to hunker down at home for the storm of a different kind - snow.

I clicked on the read and review option and it brought me to your fine poem where you make use of the site's emoticons in every line. I particularly enjoyed the notion of flying to warmer shores - it is about a foot of snow where I am today. You paint an idyllic picture of a romance and the invitation to fantasize that it generates.

Finding a way to use an emoticon in so many lines is very creative and well thought out. I particularly liked the "skull" at the end for death as I hadn't seen that one before. I haven't perused them like I should have.

Nice work - well done - I enjoyed reading this and thought it flowed very well.

*Cool**Idea* I thought that the picture and the title convey a warmth of spirit and something I needed to read today. Both drew me in.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

This is my favorite part as your words stirred memories of feelings that can carry one away with a happy sense of well being:

"Wake me up inside

And let my soul fly,

Far away to the sky,"

This is a comforting and inspiring notion that someone has the ability and inclination to do this for us. Someone or something we believe in, I reckon.

Very engaging and well written poetry - proves you don't need a whole lot of words to convey a lot to a reader.

*Cool**Idea* This transports me to a warmer time (there is about a foot of snow where I am at the moment) when I was a young child and everything seemed wonderful.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

Your rhyming couplets flow very well. This is my favorite:

"Peroxide bleaches and lemon spray,
flip flops and sunny days"

It took me back to a care-free time when I used to spray Sun-in on my hair to bleach it.

Thank you for the awesome remembrance of what (now) seems like a simpler, happier time!

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I hope you have safe travels to somewhere with nice weather. I have fears no matter how I travel, but I never regretted getting on with it. I have irony here because I stayed home this weekend because of weather.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

I liked it all, (when I felt that I understood it) especially this part:

"Internet arguments are stupid for many reasons, but this is a big one: you're not going to change anyone's mind with any number of anecdotes, any amount of data, any quantity of reason, or any pure charismatic persuasiveness."

I don't think you change anyone's mind by arguing with them, whether it's on the internet or otherwise. To me the internet is a big place to show off rather than persuade. I always run when someone demands I present my side of an argument. Scary times.

Hope you have a fun time on your trip and win a lot if you have a chance to gamble where you are going to be.
