Great imagination! I've never considered a banana peel to be a crime fighting weapon. Does Captain Banana Peel eat a lot of bananas or does he have 'helpers' who supply him with peels? I can picture an illustration of this crime buster. That yellow cape billowing in the wind would be memorable. I like the rhymes, they're not forced.
I cannot fathom such a hard life, always walking and struggling to carry water great distances. "Their footprints cover the world." What a powerful line. Yes, most of us take our lives and water for granted. Indeed "their lives are not so enchanted."

I too have great memories of visiting drive-ins. I laughed at this story. Seven 'brave' brothers, eh? Several people received extra fright that evening. Some movies draw us in and we forget our surroundings and time ceases to exist. My hubby often becomes enthralled/immersed in action movies. Imagine the arrogance, the stupidity of the hiker believing no one in 2007 could become lost. Is a moment of inattention or distraction all it takes for a hiker to become disoriented? I am giggling as I type my response to your tale of parental ingenuity in the face of birthday boy cake anticipation. This could be a scene from a family sitcom or an excerpt from the story of a wayward dog. Just imagine the illustrations in a book! Kudos for keeping your wits about you and creating the perfect A-Team cake. Why do so many parents strive for perfection? You ended up with something far superior to the original. Decker got his and the boys loved that. This tale of triumph is well-crafted.Something similar happened to me and my birthday cake right before my friends arrived. The family German Shepherd gorged himself upon the two-layer chocolate cake my Mom had made. He scarfed down the entire cake candles and all. What he didn't know is that I had talked my Mom into placing coins in the cake 'cause I'd seen this done at a party I attended. I admit I pouted when my Dad returned home with the only replacement cake he could find, a confection labelled as a German Chocolate Cake complete with shaved chocolate and cherries. The amazing thing is that that dog never appeared to be ill and my siblings and I never discovered any coins in the yard. Thanks for a great read and the laughs!

I can relate to your description of the breast cancer diagnosis, "I was feeling as if my world was tilting on its axis." That must be one of the scariest experiences. I'm sorry that the initial techs were short on empathy. Perhaps they cope by concentrating on the science. I cannot imagine breaking this news to anyone. Thank you for sharing and I salute your bravery. The big "C" took my mother -in -law just shy of her fiftieth birthday after first appearing as breast cancer. My Mom also underwent a mastectomy and survived without further complications. The Cancer Awareness programs are still the best warning/teaching/supporting tools.

I'm laughing! Nothing like a wee incentive, or is that an outright bribe to compel a family member to join a road trip and then possibly overeat chicken and waffles. That will be quite the significant distance to travel. I personally have driven much further to reach Florida. The dialogue in this story is believable. My only thought is that "road trip" need not be capitalized in the final line.Haha, ordering a dog to gather its essentials and prepare for a car trip. Thanks for putting a smile on my face.

This is a fantastic fantasy poem. I enjoyed reading it out loud. Congrats with the rhyming. I realize it was composed in a tight time frame, but some words are repeated often such as 'dream' and 'gleam.' Perhaps with more time to think and edit other words could be substituted, or the rhyme reworked.
