Review of Shadow of a smile

This is a lovely, poignant poem. Memories never fade completely. They linger just below the surface to be nudged awake by something familiar. I like the imagery of "the shadow of a smile." Thanks for the pleasant reading.

Great imagination! I've never considered a banana peel to be a crime fighting weapon. Does Captain Banana Peel eat a lot of bananas or does he have 'helpers' who supply him with peels? I can picture an illustration of this crime buster. That yellow cape billowing in the wind would be memorable. I like the rhymes, they're not forced.

I cannot fathom such a hard life, always walking and struggling to carry water great distances. "Their footprints cover the world." What a powerful line. Yes, most of us take our lives and water for granted. Indeed "their lives are not so enchanted."

What a powerful story told from the viewpoint of a selfless paramedic. The emergency workers are often unsung heroes. Of course they must grieve and feel deeply. You've portrayed the frustration of their limitations. Gun violence creates a terrible waste. I see one spelling error, the word is grieve. Thank you for this thoughtful piece!

Review of The Library Lady

What a wonderful, heartwarming read! The idea of receiving and giving love to a child celebrates happy endings/ new beginnings. You paint vibrant scenes with your words. Thank you for representing librarians as mentors. I practically lived at the local library when I was a child. The unlimited books tempted me.

This is a cute story and the potential illustrations would be wonderful especially the look on the diners' faces when Vittles landed in the gravy. I picture Vittles flicking his gravy-soaked tail as he fled. Oh, no his mother's warning came true! What a drastic way to experience a gravy bath/dip. Thanks for the delightful read!

I too have great memories of visiting drive-ins. I laughed at this story. Seven 'brave' brothers, eh? Several people received extra fright that evening. Some movies draw us in and we forget our surroundings and time ceases to exist. My hubby often becomes enthralled/immersed in action movies. He becomes the struggling actor, so much so that I feel compelled to remind him it isn't real. Thanks for the read!

Review of Ten Birds

This is imaginative. Thanks for the delightful read. Birds of a feather make music together. I like your simple lines. "I smiled. He smiled. The whole world smiled." Instant connection and a budding romance. I would've enjoyed a bedtime story like this.

This is a great story. Magic that protects and guides wayward travelers. I've never considered a heart-pumping scare to be a good thing. Imagine the arrogance, the stupidity of the hiker believing no one in 2007 could become lost. Is a moment of inattention or distraction all it takes for a hiker to become disoriented? I believe sudden changing weather conditions create a sense of urgency. Thanks for the read!

Haha, snort, guffaw... you get my drift. I enjoyed giggling through my reading of this poem. Aging is something we all must do and we cannot ignore it. That is if we live long enough to enjoy endure it. That image of a 'social event' waiting for a handicapped parking spot is too true. I appreciate that your sense of humour is still intact and free to 'ramble.'

I visited your port and discovered this lovely poem about snowflakes. Oh, there are mounds of them outside at the moment. Yes, they are beautiful when they're not obscuring your vision while driving.
Thanks for the beautiful imagery. I've often thought that snowflakes travel together and I've wondered if they're magnetic.
I like the idea of snowflake sisters welcoming each other. Thanks for the read.

I am giggling as I type my response to your tale of parental ingenuity in the face of birthday boy cake anticipation. This could be a scene from a family sitcom or an excerpt from the story of a wayward dog. Just imagine the illustrations in a book! Kudos for keeping your wits about you and creating the perfect A-Team cake. Why do so many parents strive for perfection? You ended up with something far superior to the original. Decker got his and the boys loved that. This tale of triumph is well-crafted.
Something similar happened to me and my birthday cake right before my friends arrived. The family German Shepherd gorged himself upon the two-layer chocolate cake my Mom had made. He scarfed down the entire cake candles and all. What he didn't know is that I had talked my Mom into placing coins in the cake 'cause I'd seen this done at a party I attended. I admit I pouted when my Dad returned home with the only replacement cake he could find, a confection labelled as a German Chocolate Cake complete with shaved chocolate and cherries. The amazing thing is that that dog never appeared to be ill and my siblings and I never discovered any coins in the yard.
Thanks for a great read and the laughs!

Haha! Okay? So, according to your 'scientifically' designed quiz I'm a grape. Hey,by the way, green is a colour and it wasn't an option, and so is blue. Green is my favourite colour. Thanks for this fun activity. Will this be available on dating web sites?

What a heartfelt, inspirational little story! I enjoyed reading this. By little I mean it's short, not unimportant. In concise prose you present a big message. Things are not important. Family, love, gratitude and community truly matter. Thanks for the lesson.

First may I congratulate you for not only creating, but winning with your crane Haiku. Recognition is always appreciated and accepted.
Yes, I know the story of the thousand cranes. My children learned it while attending a Canadian elementary school.
I too prefer the subtlety of the traditional Haiku. The challenge appeals to me as a writer. What may be expressed, revealed in so few syllables?
Your Japanese tea garden analogy is an apt one. The adherence to nature and the purposeful structure represent a culture steeped in honouring its artistic values. There is beauty in the simple. Thank you for sharing.

I can relate to your description of the breast cancer diagnosis, "I was feeling as if my world was tilting on its axis." That must be one of the scariest experiences. I'm sorry that the initial techs were short on empathy. Perhaps they cope by concentrating on the science. I cannot imagine breaking this news to anyone. Thank you for sharing and I salute your bravery. The big "C" took my mother -in -law just shy of her fiftieth birthday after first appearing as breast cancer. My Mom also underwent a mastectomy and survived without further complications. The Cancer Awareness programs are still the best warning/teaching/supporting tools.

Review of This is Me

Nor should you be defined! You are you. You are unique. Wise Dr. Zeuss put it best. "No one is youer than you." I suppose many of us lament the change in our physical appearances as we age. I believe we see ourselves as perpetually young and are shocked when the mirror image disagrees with us. Yes, be complex. "Some people make me prickly." You and me both! We are human. I have but one suggestion. Use quotation marks " around "you're old." Thanks for the read! This is a great poem.

I'm laughing! Nothing like a wee incentive, or is that an outright bribe to compel a family member to join a road trip and then possibly overeat chicken and waffles. That will be quite the significant distance to travel. I personally have driven much further to reach Florida. The dialogue in this story is believable. My only thought is that "road trip" need not be capitalized in the final line.Haha, ordering a dog to gather its essentials and prepare for a car trip. Thanks for putting a smile on my face.

Review of The 23 Enigma
Rated: E | (4.0)
Wow, you've put a great deal of thought into this tale and the premise of the number twenty-three possessing magical significance. The teacher seems pleased with the student's visions and reflections. How very deep and spiritual to propose that we do not always find answers, but instead discover the "right questions." This is a refreshing way to approach living. Thanks for the read! I have only one suggestion. Is a word missing in the line "not allow the excitement or anticipation take over"? In my reading I believe it should be " to take over."

This is a fantastic fantasy poem. I enjoyed reading it out loud. Congrats with the rhyming. I realize it was composed in a tight time frame, but some words are repeated often such as 'dream' and 'gleam.' Perhaps with more time to think and edit other words could be substituted, or the rhyme reworked.

Bravo and kudos to you! Yes, we do not comprehend the struggles of others. Too often we are immersed in our own dramas and on-going needs. That young man learned that there is compassion waiting to embrace him.

Wow, what an experience! This pencil really did get your attention and taught you a lesson. I notice you did not describe your ordeal as 'getting the point.' With the persistence the pain instigated you were finally vindicated. Who expected to pull a pencil from your body? Thanks for sharing.

Review of A Mother's Love
Rated: E | (4.0)
Ah, this piece describes the bittersweet side of being a mother. We raise them, care for them, teach them and the the children venture forth on their own. It is so true that children grow quickly. Once reliant beings become independent. Once a mother always a mother. Yes, the love in unconditional and eternal. This tale captures a poignant moment in time. Thanks for the read!

HAHA! This is a fun read. Of course it makes no sense, but that's to be expected. I actually have managed to catapult out of my thongs/flip flops, so it is doable. I just re-read the madlib... two guys catapulted out of the same pair of flip flops? Okay...hmmmm... I stick by my word choice. Days in July often are volcanic! Oh, wait, is Jules female? I've played this word game with my grandgiggles and it's good for a laugh.
