So, I took the day off from the restaurant yesterday. I got to go to my daughter's dance competition and me and one of my best girlfriends did a girl's night out last night. I think it was one of the best days I've had in quite a while. My daughter's large group tap routine took first place over all. And scored A First place gold in both the tap and jazz routines. I was very proud. See, my daughter is 7 and is all about dancing. I am glad she's found something that is her thing and does it well. I had a really nice Shiner Beer product last night called Shiner Black. Someone commented that it looked like I was drinking cold coffee, but then again... For me that wouldn't be suprising either. It went really well with this huge chunck of chocolate cake-like stuff that the bar restaurant had on their dessert menu. I had such fun getting a big old fork-full and slowly sucking it off while intermitently (sp?) sipping my beer. WOW! It was great! Maybe it was the day, maybe it was the weather, and then again....Maybe it was the company....BUT, heaven help me.... I'll do it again in a month or two. Perhaps again...Maybe for my birthday??? | Her Brain Continues its Running Dialogue So, the further adventures of Olivia the unlikely gym bunny go this way: Upon request, my trainer "uped" my workout...Lots! We did it together Monday and I got up at 4:45am this morning to execute this baby on my own. Athletic shoes have been an issue. I've lost enough weight that I've lost about 2 shoe sizes (who knew that could happen?). So, I dug out this old pair of Reeboks from forever ago. Didn't check them out well, mind you. Get to gym, get through Cardio warm up, get that balance ball thingy to do those oh so lovely squats with. One...Two...THR....feet shoot out from `Liv and on her a$$ets she falls. DAMN IT! Rubbing sore back-side she skulks away to engage in a free-weight routine. Shoes. Needs new shoes....Not just kinda. Then `Livy the spiritual forgets that it's Ash Wednesday. Aw....Fiddle sticks! Anyone with some slack for a poor girl???? It got bad I tell you. Ever seen a red-neck girl that quotes Shakespere when she's fit to be tied and about to come un-glued. Oh! | Yet Another Fine Example from Olivia's Head I really hate toilet paper shreddies on the bathroom floor. Mostly when they are on the floor of the bathrooms in my restaurant.  Do you know what I'm talking about? All those little nit-noy bits and pieces that you really aren't sure where they've been exactly, but you have to pick them up and throw them away because you want your bathroom to look neat, clean, and relatively hygenic for a public facility. I don't know which is worse. The men's room or the ladies' room. I guess they both freak me out equally based on relatively similar but different criteria. I imagine at some point I need to invest in a dust buster so at least we don't have to touch the stuff. Yikes!So there you have it folks! Toilet Paper Shreddies! Have a Great Weekend! Olivia |
| Never a Dull Moment In My Head So, here I am pounding away on the treadmill at the gym--5:30am! You know...Ipod in the ears so you don't have to listen to the drone and grind in the Cardio suite and I have my playlist on shuffle. We're loaded up with great workout beat material here! All the favs! The kind that you just can't help but move faster to...Feelin' Strong...  Feelin' Sexy..........YO! Brain comes to a screeching halt!  "Start Me Up," by the Rolling Stones pops up (one of my all time favorite songs!) AND all I can think of is that train wreck of a performance Marie Osmond returned for her final dance on Dancing with the Stars last season.Do you remember the one I'm talking about?  The one where she's dressed like a doll and the dance was to "Start Me Up?" She was supposed to be a winde up doll or some shit. Heaven help me! It left an indellible impression of that whole thing on my poor brain. All I could think was: "Good GOD! This is come kind of cracked out kiddie porn scene. STOP the CAMERAS!!!!!!"  Good Lord! You could even see it in the judges eyes that they were thinking the very same thing!So, anyway. It really put a dent in my groove on the treadmill this morning. Pissed me off to no end. If I can't get that horrible picture of Marie dressed like that doll and kiddie porn dancing to that song out of my head....I'm going to have to delete the song from my playlist. Thank GOD "Your Mama Don't Dance," came on right afterwards. That was an incredibly healing song. That conjured an image of a friend of mine playing that for me the last time he was the featured artist for our Saturday night live music here at the restaurant. He did the voice and everything! It was great. I hope he'll sing it again this month when he plays. Maybe I'll ask him...hummmm. By the way, the  Divine Miss H got the part of "Lucy" in her class's upcoming puppet show production of "The Chronicals of Narnia." Mamma couldn't be more proud!   Tomorrow's Groundhog Day! | It's funny how it seems that when you are out of something on your menu, that's when people are mysteriously moved to order it. Take my "Made from Scratch" Corned Beef Hash for example! Being the first day of the work week, and a damp, dreary, drizzly morning at that, I didn't have much confidence that breakfast was going to be any too spectacular. Believe me, I didn't light any too strong a fire under myself to boil fresh potatoes for hash. Getting a fresh batch of sausage mixed and pattied seemed far more important. So, BANG! What happens? I get a 5 top, a single, a two top, and another 5 top one right after the other. AND....3 Orders for the Corned Beef Hash out of all those breakfasts! I pulled it out, being the great Chef that I am. God Bless them for ordering it with Over Easy Eggs. I like folks like that. Corned Beef Hash isn't quite a southern thing, you know. Anyway...For being a Texas girl, I think I've got a rockin' awesome Corned Beef Hash. It's not the usual (I studied the recipies) and it's certainly NOT that awful stuff out of the can! Although it actually SAYS on the menu that I make it myself, some highly intelligent individual had the balls to send it back one morning because it wasn't that canned stuff. Pig. I've gotten rave reviews on my Hash and I have to admit, if you are really hungry, that's one of the plates to order when you come to my place. The other really big breakfast...The BIG Ranch Omlette. So, this drizzly January afternoon I reward myself for another day's work with a hot cup of coffee and some quiet time before going off to the obligatory parent meeting at school. I'd really rather be sitting home working out the end of my novel, but I guess I can't have it all! But, it would be nice Bye for now! Olivia |
