A day in the life of... me!
A HUGE Thank you to Emily for the beautiful ribbon *Smile*

First place in "The Bard's Hall Contest for July/August 2012!

A day in the life of... me! Sometimes I need to rant. Sometimes I have something burning on my mind. Sometimes I'm so angry I feel like reverting back to old coping mechanisms. So I thought a journal was a good idea!

I feel ranting is an important part to life, everyone does it to some degree or another and it's not healthy to bottle things up inside. So for those moments where I feel a rant (or just a general thought) and want to get it off my chest, here it will be!

However, ranting is not everything. Sometimes I just feel like I want to share something with someone, and often there is nobody to listen (wow that makes me sound sad! I do have friends but I tend to let them do the talking rather than share). So here I can get things off my chest, rant or be happy, whatever the mood *Smile*

Song Title: Broken
Artist: Seether
Album: Disclaimer II

So it seems that I'm sticking with music from back in the day a little. I chose this song because right about the same time I was listening to Evanescence and Nickelback, I found this gem of a band. Seether are quite a chilled sort of band with brilliant music. Yes, some of their music is quite depressing I find and it's not a band I listen to regularly these days, but I do still really like them. I haven't had a chance to see Seether live though I know they happen to be playing at Download Festival this year but I don't think I'm going to make it. I'm not impressed with the line up so I can't really justify paying all of that money just to see a band or two. And last year doing one day only proved to be a bit of a nightmare and still pretty expensive. Maybe one day!

Song Title: Bother
Artist: Stone Sour
Album: Stone Sour

Please let me know if this video link doesn't work (though it should), I'm at work and the videos don't always play here.

Stone Sour have always been a big part of my life and my soundtrack. I heard them a lot of years ago (yes I'm kind of backtracking in my years now) and I remember this song in particular being one of those ones I listened to quite a lot. It's quite a depressing song I find but still so beautiful. It kind of struck a chord with me when I was going through a really tough time and I didn't think a lot of people cared. I felt so alone at that time and even though my friend and family were there, I couldn't talk to them. To this day I'm still trying to figure out whether that's my issue or whether I was made to feel like that. Perhaps both in different situations. Anyway! Stone Sour actually formed before Slipknot but for a long time, I think Slipknot were a more 'mainstream' band. However, Stone Sour is claiming back the lime light with two new brilliant albums (The House of Gold and Bones pt 1 & 2). I much preferred the first album, as I always do, but still they're both good listens.

I think Corey Taylor has an amazing voice. He has a wide range of vocals and some of the songs he sings are just beautiful. For example, check this song out:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kNrS-GDAEAs

It's just as totally awesome and shows how far the band have come.

I saw Stone Sour live at Download in 2013 and they were amazing. Corey puts a lot into his shows, whether it's with Stone Sour or Slipknot (but I remember seeing Slipknot was somewhat a scarier experience deep in the heart of the mosh pit) and I would recommend seeing either band.

Song Title: Whiskey in the Jar
Artist: Metallica

[Embed For Use By Upgraded+]

Oh yeah, you knew there had to be some Metallica in here somewhere! It's funny, because as much as I love them now, it took me a lot of time listening to rock and metal before I actually listened to them properly. Of course, I love them, who wouldn't?! Although this isn't perhaps one of their more mainstream songs, as soon as I heard it I loved it. It's a brilliant song (originally gaining exposure from The Dubliners) but I think Metallica really add something to it (besides the electric guitar!)

I saw Metallica live in 2009 at the Arena. When I saw them, it was at a time when I hadn't really heard a lot of their music so as much as I enjoyed it, I couldn't really get into it, you know? Then they played at Download festival in 2012 and I was loving it. I couldn't get enough - they played the full setlist from the Black Album! It was amazing!

Song Title: I'd Come for You
Artist: Nickelback
Album: Dark Horse

Nickelback, most people love them right. They're easy to listen to, their songs are catchy and let's face it, Chad is a bit hot! I guess most people do like their music though of course, that's my biased opinion and I'm guessing there will be people who think nickelback aren't their personal cup of *Teag*

While my music tastes have changed a lot over the years and I listen to much heavier metal now, there is still a place in my heart for Chad. Well, at least there used to be, until he chopped all his hair off and got married... *sigh* I don't even know if it's the fact that he got married or who he got married to (my first boyfriend was in love with Avril Lavigne and by default I had to hate her!)

I saw Nickelback live in Newcastle in 2012. It was a strange gig for me as I went with my best friend's parter and a guy who fancied the pants off me. It was awkward to say the least, but hey, I got to see Chad (and he still had his luscious locks then!) It was a great gig too and I would go see them again if I got the chance *Smile*

Song Title: Jailhouse Rock
Artist: Elvis Presely

[Embed For Use By Upgraded+]

Okay, I guess this is another odd ball in my playlist. Most of the music I've chosen is stuff I listen to now and it largely rock or metal based. That's what I love. But Elvis is what I grew up with. My parents, but namely my dad, absolutely loves Elvis! It's the only musician I remember him being so obsessed with (and still is). It's like his whole life revolves around the music of the King and so I guess in a way, mine did too. I grew up listening to Elvis and watching his hips gyrate and girls scream. Yeah I listened to it, and I agree he has an amazing voice, but he never really was my cup of tea *Teap*

I went to Memphis in 2009 with my parents and my Aunty. We stayed in the Heartbreak Hotel and visited Graceland, Tuplelo and Beale Street while there. It was the most amazing holiday. I loved every minute of it. The atmosphere on Beale Street was electric and the music in the bars just amazing. So while Elvis is not first on my list and nor would I tend to really listen to him now, I guess him and his music has played a big part of my life.

I chose this song in particular because I love the way it sounds, the way he rocks out and the originality!

Song Title: Darkness Within
Artist: Machine Head
Album: Locust

Just a bit of a warning, this is quite a graphic music video. I've actually just watched it for the first time and some of it made me feel *Sick* ! Just in case you're a little sensitive.

I was introduced to Machine Head through my partner. He absolutely loves them and as soon as I heard them, I did too. I love all of their music and I had a really hard time choosing the song I wanted to feature by them. Halo is another favourite of mine. Machine Head are an amazing band. They work hard on their music and lyrics and everything they produce is of the highest quality.

I saw them live with my partner in February 2010 and I was so amazed by them. I haven't managed to see them since but I would at any opportunity. They have such a unique sound and their music always gets me energised. And I also think he has a brilliant voice, as can be seen in this song!

Song Title: Too-Ra-Loo-Ra-Loo-Ral
Artist: Bing Crosby

[Embed For Use By Upgraded+]

I chose this song today, because it was one I always remember my Granda singing to me when I was a bairn. He was a man who always had a smile on his face despite the mental pain he went through everyday. I didn't realise this until I was a lot older, but he was actually an alcoholic and I suspect he used that as a way to deal with the mental pain he went through after coming back from the war. He probably had PTSD. But he wasn't the sort to gripe and he just got on with things. But no matter what, he always had a smile for me and my sister *Smile*

I still can't believe it. I really can't! I opened up my email at work last night (my first day shift ever) where I was doing some extra cover and I had an email from the woman I sent my novel off to. A few days ago I heard from her saying she liked the first three chapters and wanted me to send the rest. So of course, I did so. The email I received back last night completely blew my mind.

I'm being offered a publishing contract to get my young adult novel published! I can't believe it! They want my book. The Doors, out there because they think people will read it. It's going to be an ebook and print on demand. There's a contract waiting there for me to look over and sign and I just can't believe it! *Shock*

My writing is going to be out in the world *Bigsmile*

There are a few questions I have because I want to be published under my pseudonym and I'm not sure if it hads financial implications or anything but I'm going to ask about that (or if you have any advice, please let me know!)

Song Title: Chop Suey
Artist: System of a Down
Album: Toxicity

Another of one my favourite songs! This is the first ever SOAD song that I heard and I loved it from the moment I heard it. It was another one of those songs that seemed to be played every time I went to the club without fail but you know what, I never got sick of it. I remember people around me complaining about it but I couldn't get enough.

To me, Serj and his band are completely revolutionary. They are very unique and original and sing what they want. A lot of their songs are quite political which I quite like, even though I'm not a very political person, but I think on the same notion they're also so random. I mean, listen to the lyrics of this thing...

Wake up (wake up)
Grab a brush and put a little make-up
Hide the scars to fade away the shake-up
Why'd you leave the keys upon the table?
Here you go create another fable

You wanted to
Grab a brush and put a little makeup
You wanted to
Hide the scars to fade away the shake-up
You wanted to
Why'd you leave the keys upon the table?
You wanted to

I don't think you trust
In my self-righteous suicide
I cry when angels deserve to die, die

Wake up (wake up)
Grab a brush and put a little make-up
Hide the scars to fade away the shake-up
Hide the scars to fade away the
Why'd you leave the keys upon the table?
Here you go create another fable

You wanted to
Grab a brush and put a little make-up
You wanted to
Hide the scars to fade away the shake-up
You wanted to
Why'd you leave the keys upon the table?
You wanted to

I don't think you trust
In my self-righteous suicide
I cry when angels deserve to die
In my self-righteous suicide
I cry when angels deserve to die

Father, father, father, father
Father, into your hands I commend my spirit
Father, into your hands
Why have you forsaken me?
In your eyes forsaken me
In your thoughts forsaken me
In your heart forsaken me, oh

Trust in my self-righteous suicide
I cry when angels deserve to die
In my self-righteous suicide
I cry when angels deserve to die

Completely random but an amazing song! He has an amazing voice and though he struck out on his own for a while, it wasn't right until they reunited. I saw them live at Download Festival in 2011 and they were the reason I made it to my first ever festival. I couldn't miss them, not knowing that they had been broken up for so long and I might never get another chance. They were amazing on stage with a brilliant set and an equally amazing show!

Song Title: Wait for Me
Artist: Theory of a Deadman
Album: Scars and Souvenirs

[Embed For Use By Upgraded+]

I hadn't ever listened to Theory until around a year ago. I knew I'd like them because I quite like Nickelback too and when I began to listen to the album I was hooked. It was on repeat constantly both in my car and at home. This song kind of became a soundtrack to mine and my partner's relationship. He was going through a really tough time and I held on and held on for as long as I could. Now it just reminds me of how much I love him and how perfect we are together *Heart*
