The second of my collections of poems written for "Express It In Eight." |
As usual these days, I choose blog format because it offers more space for the work. |
Small Moments Where silence reigns absolute and time releases its hold the world coalesced to an instant insight revealed in the mundane. There in the frozen moment life concentrated unfiltered through care and concern of what lies beyond the bend. Line count: 8 Free verse For Express It In Eight, 05.20.24 Prompt: Find joy in small moments. |
Beat Poetry Oh Allen Ginsberg and Gregory Corso, Lawrence Ferlinghetti and Kerouac, the 21st Century would be an odd time to rediscover the beat poets and beatniks, and maybe I owe them more than I know, they make me smile and I know them better, now more than ever before, a land unknown to return to and mumble something about roots. Line count: 8 Free verse For Express It In Eight, 05.18.24 Prompt: Formation of beatniks. |
Indecision I know I will, I know I might just wish upon a star tonight, and if I do it’s only right that I choose one that’s oh so bright, for if the choice is full of light, or seems to be within my sight, no matter from the depth or height… but better yet, I’ll fly a kite. Line count: 8 Rhymed aaaaaaaa, 8 syllables per line For Express It In Eight, 05.14.24 Prompt: Indecisive |
Avoidance A miss is as good as a mile especially if done with style like the bullfighter’s caped finesse or the botched spell of sorceress. To dodge and to weave is the best when meeting the boxer’s great test ‘tis better to float than to sting like Muhammad Ali in ring. Line count: 8 Rhymed aabb For Express It In Eight, 05.13.24 Prompt: Write an avoidance poem. |
Squawk In the land of the plucked the bird with one feather is king strange company they make flocking together in freezers. Pink and goosebumped array in chilled and frozen display they gather for migration unto the dinner table. Line count: 8 Free verse (yeah, I know lines 5 and 6 rhyme) For Express It In Eight, 05.11.24 Prompt: Birds of a feather flock together. |
Deadline 2 And do I have a deadline? Why yes, I guess I do, I think I’ve an appointment, unless it’s “hope” not “think,” they say we all have dates, and that is likely true, no written proof however - just feel I’m on the brink. My arrival is recorded, it’s date is on this form, and other proofs as well, of them I’m not bereft, certificates uncounted, both weird and of the norm but nothing indicating the time that I have left. Line count: 8 Rhymed abab For Express It In Eight, 05.09.24 Prompt: Write a deadline poem. |
