Read the above item. Good friends will always look out for each other no matter what. Use this line in your Blog entry today.

I think the idea that good friends will always look out for each other no matter what is spot on. I know my best friend has always been Jesus Christ and He watches out for me. He has proven it over and over by pulling me out of scrapes and saving my life. He doesn't always protect me from all of the consequences but when I look back I can see that things could have been much worse.

Image for a blog forum Have you ever had one of those nights when all you wanted to do was sit at the feet of Jesus? I had one last night. I called the university yesterday and talked to my advisor who suggested I change my schedule slightly. I did and I was doing some printing for my new class. I felt God's presence so strongly that all I wanted to do was soak in it like a hot bath. I love those feelings! What do you think?

I do love those feelings and they often seem so fleeting. They make me want to cry out like the psalter "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" Psalm 22:1

The feeling I love even more though is that calm, blessed assurance that even when I do not feel the presence of Holy Spirit He is right there. He hasn't gone anywhere. That feeling of not just feeling His presence but knowing that even if I am steeped in sin or buried under a pile of tribulations He is there. That calm assurance and belief that He will not leave me no matter what is the best feeling. It comes by faith and allows me to trust Him even when I can't feel Him.

Righting the Ship: A Tide Beckons  (E)
The dialogue in American politics - captivating and bold - a poem.
#2214393 by Tim Chiu

.
"Allow the sounds to vacate,
Avail their raucous strength,
With each and every vile strait
Those preachers raise at length."

Do you think politicians are preachers or do they promise us things they have no intention of delivering?

They never deliver what they promise. They are all so out of touch with the people that they have no idea what we really need nor do they care. Nancy Pelosi can live in her 25 million dollar home eating ice cream out of her $25,000.00 refrigerator and tell us we should buy her brand because she wants our money. Donald Trump can talk about how hot his daughter is because he's a perverted old man with everything under the sun within his reach. None of them have a clue what we need.

Image for a blog forum Prompt: "Christians use the slogan "preaching the word of God." Exactly what is the word of God and how do we preach it?"

The word of God is Jesus Christ. If we are preaching the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ we are doing God's will. There are all sorts of ways to preach it. I personally feel that the most effective way is to model Christ-like behavior for others to see. Then when they ask why we are calm when the rest of the world is falling apart we tell them.

in which northernwrites quotes Robert Frost as saying "Poetry is made out of algebra and fire."

Do you agree? Why or why not?"

I would agree that northernwrites has helped a lot of people. He works to keep WDC running smoothly and when we heed the advice given it works out well. I like the quote from Robert Frost because poetry is a lot like WDC. When it is done right it works out perfectly. When self-will becomes involved we morph it into something it is not meant to be and ruin things. Poetry has formulas just like algebra. Following those formulas gives us proper results.

Image for a blog forum Prompt: "How has the doctrine that Jesus left heaven to become a human being changed in your life over the years?"

When I was a young Christian I did not know that Jesus was equal to God. I thought he was born a man and that God was His father making Him half God half man. I now know that He was always fully God and that He became a man for a short period of time before becoming glorified. The doctrine of kenosis or "emptying" discusses how He stepped down from the position of second only to the Father and the glories of heaven to be born on a stble and live a life of poverty. See Philippians 2:1-11 for more.

Blog City image small "Prompt: “After a time, I wonder if I am remembering the actual event or just remembering the memories.”
From Have You Seen Luis Velez? by Catherine Ryan Hyde

What do you think about the quote and are our memories or remembrances always truthful?"

I don't believe memories are always truthful. I have a lot of memories of things that others tell completely differently than I remember them. Memories often come at us jumbled together so that parts of one memory did not happen at the same time as another memory.

I spent my summer vacation doing what I like to do best: learning. Work to me is a vacation because I escape the mundane nonsense that way. Vacations would be boring to me. So I prefer to just continue working. I relax more when I'm busy working.

We will learn how the local Mama's prepare food at home using traditional cooking equipment and methods. We will learn some Swahili words for different foods and be able to get hands-on help to prepare each dish.

We will learn about how Maasai build their homes and how traditional Maasai homes are set up in a "boma".
We will see inside the homes and how they live.

We will learn how Maasai create their own beaded jewellery and go away from the workshop with your very own bracelet.

Vegetarian, gluten free and dairy free options can be catered for in the recipes. We're cooking our dinner and learning how to make beaded jewelry together. How cool is that?

Shirley Rose
What do you think about overreactions, and is the feeling of being controlled the only trigger for overreactions?"

I think overreactions are typically because the person is responding to something that happened in the past. The subconscious mind does not know the difference between fantasy and reality. It has no concept of time. So an event today that reminds it of an event from the past, gets responded to as the past event.

Smitten With A Kitten  (13+)
Our rescue cat, Cassie was sent to comfort us after the loss of our Daughter Lucy.
#2229088 by Brenpoet

Read the above item.

Smitten with a kitten, we were a family again. Write about a pet that has touched your life.

I know rescue animals are often the best pets. I had a dog once. Her name was Sandy. She was a little red-furred Pomeranian. She was without a doubt the smartest dog I ever owned. I am telling you she would have talked if she had a voice. She would scold you if she thought you were wrong and not by barking at you. She would get in your lap and give you the evil eye. She did that to me one day. I was arguing with my wife about something silly. Sandy waited until I lay down on the bed then got up on my chest and glared at me. She may as well have spoken. Her eyes did all the talking for her! I apologized to my wife and the dog. Sandy jumped up on the bed once more. This time her tail was wagging her body and she was a content little dog.

Image #2225669 over display limit. -?- Why is important to have a "pure heart?" Is it possible for a person to have such a heart?

It is important to have a pure heart because Jesus has a pure heart and we are to be like Jesus. Believers will strive to be like Jesus. God is pure and will not fellowship with impurity. God obviously sees the impurity since God is everywhere. However, God does not reward or have anything to do with it. In fact, He discourages and punishes impurity.

I don't have any school-aged children thank God. If I did I'd probably be leaving you all in handcuffs because I would not be following the rules. This COVID-19 is not a joke. It kills kids as well as adults and I would not tempt God by possibly exposing my kids to it.

Innocence  (E)
A poem on our most precious, fragile treasure
#1994670 by Roari ∞

Read the above item.

It's better they not know the treasures they hold. Use this line in your Blog entry today.

I agree with what the author is subtly saying: Treasure always comes at a price. I never would have thought that my values would change so drastically that I would come to appreciate the hard times in my life. Now that I look back on those hard times I realize that they were the times of the most growth. I may not have physical treasure but I have a wealth of experience and wisdom. Those times also taught me faith. Without those times I would not be a Christian.

Image #2225669 over display limit. -?- Why is an acknowledgment of our Creator and of God as our creator and redeemer important in our reconciliation with God?

Without acknowledging God there can be no reconciliation. Hebrews 11:6 says that without faith it is impossible to please God because those who approach God must believe that God exists and that He faithfully rewards those who (acknowledge) Him. Acknowledging God verifies our faith in Him and what He has done for us.

Image #1971183 over display limit. -?- 2003 - North America Power Outage
2003 : A major power outage never seen before across the Eastern United States and parts of Canada and including New York with over 15 million people affected . The total number affected is thought to be the worst power cut in North American history affecting more than 50 million . The effects included traffic lights failed, underground railways, people trapped in lifts, and because it was one of the hottest days of the year and temperatures approaching 32C some of the worst effects were caused due to the lack of air conditioning. Most did have power back with 24 hrs.

On this day in history, North America had what is thought to have been the worst power outage. The weather channel is projecting record heat days above normal for the vast part of North America. Do you think we're better able to handle the demand for power? Your thoughts? How do you handle power outages in general? Some of us have experience from hurricanes, tornadoes,or winter storms that might have suggestions for those unfamiliar.

I don't believe our power grid is any more reliable today than it ever was. We rely too much on fossil fuels.

OLD FRIENDS  (E)
A poem dedicated to my old friends here at WDC
#2167422 by Monty

I wish once more to find the friends that I miss so. Use this line in your Blog entry today.

I know exactly what the author means. I had a lot of friends on WDC and lost track of them. They get busy and we get busy and our paths just go separate ways. That's why I like these groups. You grow fond of people and these blog groups allow you to develop a camaraderie with them and hear from them every day. I am a people person and this allows me to get involved in people's lives.

Image #2225669 over display limit. -?- I was at the administration office here at the West Virginia Veteran's Home today standing in the line to get my mail. The administrator of the facility was talking to some of us and told us that West Virginia Governor Jim Justice has officially once again put all nursing homes in the state of WV on quarantine status. We are not considered a nursing home. We are a domicile for veterans so we avoided the punch for the time being. However, with the increase in COVID-19 cases it is only a matter of time. The prompt for today then is "How do we continue to trust God during times as these? How can we learn to continue praising him?

For me this wasn't easy. I knew I should always be praising God and I wanted to be praising Him. I just felt so miserable and angry at the world that I didn't have any praise for Him except the fleeting few minutes I was having fun in church. Then I began dealing with the issues that made me angry to begin with. I confronted them head on. I began to see that through it all God had been there for me, protecting me from death. Yes. I was harmed badly quite a few times but I always survived and always recovered. Those survivals were miracles. They taught me to trust God no matter what. I think COVID-19 is going to teach those willing to trust God even more.

Image #1997652 over display limit. -?- I don't know about you but I'm needing some quiet time, we've been with a lot of people. There are many things available for you to explore. Discuss what works for you.

EX. say in 30 day you discussed yoga and wellness treatment. For it to content you will need to discuss something different like maybe exploring the tibetan massage therapy and art classes or cooking classes.

I would agree with that. Even death is a new beginning. For Christians it is a beginning of an eternity with God. For non-believers it is the beginning of eternal separation from God. For those left behind it is the beginning of a life without the lost. Each day is a new beginning. So yes, I would agree.

and sounds like it would either cure you or kill you. What do you do if you wake up sick?

If any of my crew ever catch me drinking anything stronger than a soft drink, do me a favor and shoot me. Have me committed to a mental institution or a detox center for my own good. I am a recovered addict and alcohol was one of my drugs of choice. I am also a dependency disorders specialist and can tell you just about anything you want to know about alcohol. I can tell you for example that if you want to avoid a hangover just stay drunk. Aside from that you are not going to avoid a hangover. I have tried a thousand hangover cures and the best one I ever found was not to get drunk to begin with. I find that it is not the last drink that does the damage. It is the first one. The first one sets of a mechanism in the body that causes me to crave more and more. The first thing you know I am out of control. I have not put alcohol or any other non-prescribed drug into my body in almost twelve years. The result of quitting is that I graduated from Marshall University and am now attending seminary at Regent University where I am an honors student. I am one week short of officially making the Dean's List at Regent. My current GPA after having completed two of three classes in graduate school is 3.67 and the class I am finishing I have an A in so far. I have two more assignments to get back and then I am done with it as well. So far on eight similar assignments I have made straight As. I do not anticipate any problems making the same on the last two. The fact is that if I had ever drank a single drop of alcohol or taken one illicit drug I never could have made As. I'd be lucky to get Cs or Ds. More than likely I would have pulled Ds and Fs. I know because I've gone to classes high before. I learned, but not as much. I didn't care about my performance and it affected my grades. So if you ever find me using just do me a favor and put me out of my misery.

When I came upon this piece last night it reminded me of some of the desperate things I did to try to cure a hangover. I tried eating before I drank, which only slowed down the digestion of the alcohol. Alcohol is a poison so the very first the body does when we ingest it is try to get rid of it. The liver works solely on the alcohol and anything else in our systems is put on hold. That's why they say never to drink when taking anything else. Whatever else you are taking is pushed aside by the liver and begins to build up in the system until we are overdosed on it. Even then the body will ignore the overdosed medication and try to process the alcohol. Food becomes nothing but fat as the liver won't process anything from the food. The food just passes through. The alcohol takes priority. The liver processes about one shot per hour. If you drink two shots you're drunk for two hours. Two shots for me leads to about eighteen more though. The last time I drank my wife was driving me home from the bar. It was late at night. A deputy pulled her over for a tail light being out. He smelled the booze and she told him I had been drinking. He talked me into letting him test my blood alcohol concentration with a breathalyzer because he could tell I'd had way too much. Since I knew him from high school and had his word he was not going to arrest me I allowed him to breathalyze me. I blew a .459 which for all intents and purposes is fatal. He told my wife I was going to die if I did not get treated. He told her that since he had given his word he was not going to arrest me, but for her to get me to the hospital and keep me there until I passed out and they could treat me without consent. (You can treat an unconscious person by "implied consent". I surprised both the deputy and my wife by not passing out. However several hours later I sobered up enough to check myself into rehab. I have not drank or used since. I have since worked with others to help them quit using drugs. And yes, when I say drugs I include alcohol. I usually try not to say "drugs and alcohol" because alcohol is a drug. I know that now and I avoid it.

Image #2225669 over display limit. -?- Promppt: "Taken from Faith Connections Leader's Guide Copyright 2020 Foundry Press

In what ways have you experienced God as a shelter, shadow, refuge, or fortress?"

I love questions like this when I find them in the Faith Connections Leader's Guide. Some of the questions it asks seem a bit redundant or even ludicrous but I try to remember that Sunday school classes can have Christians of all spiritual maturity levels and even some who are not Christians at all in them. So I take the questions that seem too easy along with the ones with meat on them like this one. You will find that I will be sharing both types of questions in this forum.

For today's prompt the book asks in what ways have I experienced God as a shelter, shadow, refuge, or fortress? If you read my entry above for another blog, you know that I am a recovered addict. I don't know how many times God has protected me from myself in my addiction. There have been plenty of times that I have woke up to find myself in a strange place only to discover that in a blackout I have traveled over 100 miles from home and lost an entire week. I have no memory of those periods of time and cannot tell you what I did. I do know that God knows what I did and He kept me from getting myself killed or getting into serious trouble. Usually, I just went to sleep somewhere but I have woken up in bed with women I never saw before and never wanted to see again. I have never contracted any diseases which is a miracle in itself. I was arrested a few times, but that was usually for public intoxication. I was fined and released. The fines were usually suspended because the judge knew I was too drunk or hungover to remember to pay them and they did not want the paper work required in suspending my license if I even had one. I don't know how many times I drove drunk. I never had a DUI, which was the grace of God. The closest I ever came to serious crime was when I was cold one night in Washington DC and started sleepwalking. I apparently tried to get into a senator's vehicle, with the senator sitting in it with his family. He could not get me to wake up and refused to drive away with me holding onto the door handle for fear he would run over me. So he used his mobile phone to call the police, who got me awake and sent me to the hospital for hypothermia. The senator said that I had done no harm except frighten his children so he pressed no charges. I guess I had taken hold of his door handle and refused to let go. I was asleep. Fortunately, I had not been drinking but I'm sure I was on something. God was watching over me. This is just one of many times God kept me safe.

Discuss what you've learned and what you felt seeing the pictures."

I loved the look of those caves and would love to go explore them. I love caves. I'm always a little leary in them because I have claustrophobia. If they get too tight I leave them or refuse to go further. However these look tame enough. I have even slept in a cave or two in my life time.

I also loved the pristine look of the bay. It was beautiful. I enjoyed the kayaking and the tour we took. I even picked up a beautiful companion while we there. He's a little golden monkey that took a shine to me when I was at the zoo. I asked about adopting him but of course they refused. Go figure!

A perfect day to me is a day when I can be productive. It doesn't matter what kind of productive. I just want to keep busy. I am in hog heaven when I have a big assignment to research and write. I've gotten comfortable with Turabian format so I can write a paper in just a few hours now. It usually takes about a day because I will form a hypothess and then look for documentation that supports that hypothesis. It's often hard to narrow down or find something closely resembling my thoughts because I try to be innovative. I love a good challenge and it is usually when somebody tells me something cannot be done that I am at my best proving them wrong.

Face what you must Face  (E)
Challenges are been given to you for a purpose - for you to become what you can become.

A statement stood out "Krishna says – When you avoid what you must face in life, it becomes bigger than you and takes control over you.*

What do you think?"

I agree absolutely. Challenges come along in life. What we do with those challenges determines what those challenges become. If we back down from the challenges then the challenges become our masters and we shrink as people. If we face the challenges head on we master them. I choose not to be enslaved by anything except God. Good job sindbad !

Why is acknowledging our sin and God as Creator and Redeemer important in our reconciliation with God?

It is important because it is a part of repentance. If we do not acknowledge that God is right and we are wrong then we have not completely surrendered. We will not find complete forgiveness until our surrender is complete. Humans are fickle creatures. Until we get it in our minds that what we did was wrong, no repentance will be complete.

I enjoyed the exquisite Vietnamese cuisine that I can't even pronounce. I also enjoyed the kayaking and fortunately nobody got thrown from the kayak. The water was rough in a few places and smooth and calm in others. The calm spots gave me a good work out as I worked the oar.

Do you agree with the quote, and what frustrates you the most?"

I would agree with that assessment. Alcoholics Anonymous says “Acceptance is the answer to all my problems today”.

Winter Olympics ~ an image in verse

and the item says "For a moment the sky
and snow-clad earth reverse;
on wings of wind upheld
fleet skiers glide as birds."

Have you ever been snow or water skiing? Do you think you'd like to try?

Kate - Writing & Reading is discussing the winter Olympic sport of ski jumping. She beautifully describes this graceful sport which is as much of an art form as it is a sport. I always loved watching ski jumping though I gave up watching sports at all. Actually, I don't watch much television period. Anyway, I have never been skiing. A friend once talked of taking me to the mountains in the Catskills to go skiing but we never went. I have also never water skied.

Image #2225755 over display limit. -?- Prompt: "Do you feel it is okay to be proud of our accomplishments for the Lord, or is pride something we should avoid altogether?"

I am sort of ambiguous on this issue. I'll have to do more research. I know there are a lot of admonitions against pride throughout the Bible. On the other hand, a little satisfaction and being pleased that the Lord's will is being accomplished is okay I think. I'd have to research it more to know with certainty though.

The housekeeper on my floor just came to my room a little while ago and asked me where he could find some very basic Bible studies. He said he wants to start learning about the Bible. My congregation and I have been praying for him for a long time. To have him say he is interested in learning the Bible is a blessing! God's word will not come back to God void.

I believe we should love everybody.
