| A door to hell When they, of sudden pounced upon my home and hearth Robbed me of freedom inflicting pain on my life’s path, When my kin and I became mere puppets on the string, I saw a door to hell open, heard the death knell ringing. Our world fell apart, when the hunter of the unknown land Netted the people of my continent to get him a hundred grand The atrocities, rape and plunder and enslavement continued For decades, the “civilizing mission” was on without interlude. Then came our own perpetrators with a thirst for money power, That eclipsed the “aliens” in immorality, their ambition to tower To stick on to high positions, to amass, to eat, and to kill more Disgrace the nation, deploy foreign thugs to subvert us to the core. Where are the heady songs of Independence, we sang in jubilation? Whither went the pledges the leaders made for the eager population? Do we still have to fight the demons of ignorance and burning rage? Will the door to hell stay open, mocking our aspirations for a golden age? Lines:16 |
