A Mistake I Made Today

Reality Prompt: What mistake did you make today?

Cindy, a client at the mental health facility where I work, went home with her mother for Christmas and New Years. The staff feeds her fish while she is gone. I work midnights and I feed her fish in the morning. I saw Cindy yesterday because I hadn't seen her or her fish since she came home Jan. 2. I had a few days off. I told her that I fed her fish while she was gone. She thanked me but told me that he had died. I was ready to cry. She told me it is alright. She is getting a new fish. Her fish was old and she was okay about his dying. I was embarrassed. No one had told me. I promised to help feed her new fish when she goes to see her mother. She seemed happy about it. I hope her new fish doesn't die. The one staff member thought that he looked sick last month. Poor fish. They don't live all that long.
