writing a poem about 'luck'

Luck is what you make it--
can make your life or break it.
You either have it, or you don't.
Great things may happen, or, they won't

Luck isn't about a winning number,
or the winning lottery of a good night's slumber.
It's not about 'right time, right place'
or a genetic combo of 'the perfect face.'

Luck, remember, may be bad or good.
a lack of bad might be all one should
focus on, be happy in that
and not being greedy to be 'top hat!.'

Luck whether in clover or horseshoe,
a special penny, or that kiss you blew,
is merely circumstance, it happens or not--
far better to be grateful for whatever you've got!

Sure, I buy lottery tickets and wish for the dream,
seek lucky stars, imagine and scheme,
but I know in my heart to just do my best
and the powers that be will take care of the rest!

I've done my time and paid my dues,
had my share of awful news,
relationships were many and failed,
and often I thought that ship had long sailed.

We aren't rich, but I know I will eat,
we've a roof over our heads and I know we'll have heat.
I appreciate my hubby and he treats me well,
we have our health--we've rung every bell!

So, luck, if it should happen my way,
will be the icing on a special day.
But I won't gamble my soul or give up what I've got
for that shiney prize: It's simply not

the begin all or end for me.
I already think I've been lucky!
