Response poem inspired by Robert Frost's "Fire and Ice" |
| Response Poem to Fire and Ice by Robert Frost: The Ire of Man Frost once thought the world would end with fire or ice, but there's more, my friend. Within man's soul, I think is found more fire and ice than in wood or mount. And if the world shall come to end with fiery hell or frosty wind, I think that man shall meet his death in hateful thoughts and icy breath. For even with a beating heart, what good if frigid words impart, or with cold and vacant eyes do stare, what good is sight, wasted there. Hands, with angry flames, make fists and choose to act in violence, and arms once made to give embrace, with hate, wound body, soul and face. If the world shall end with ice or fire, will it be from man's cold hearted ire? SWPoet Fire and Ice by Robert Frost Some say the world will end in fire Some say in ice From what I’ve tasted of desire I hold with those who favor fire But if it had to perish twice I think I know enough of hate To say that for destruction ice Is also great And would suffice. |
