Raven is on a mission for his witch. 300-word flash |
| Gargoyle Wisdom Raven was looking for a seed. He was particular about which one he wanted and he only wanted one. He approached an ancient cathedral. He flew around for some time checking in all the nooks and crannies in the gargoyles that decorated it. While he did so, he irritated the head gargoyle. As night fell and he continued searching, it finally spoke in Raven. “Listen, black limb of Satan, stop flying around our church! Desist at once!” “I am looking for something very important, sir. My witch wants a stone seed.” “She wants what?” the gargoyle asked, a claw to his ear. “A stone seed. Do you know where I can get one?” The creature began to roar with laughter, awakening all the other gargoyles. They wanted to know what the joke was. When the head gargoyle told them the story amid further fits of laughter, they all began to laugh too. The raven was confused and highly irritated. “If you don’t want to tell me, just say so and I’ll look elsewhere.” A smaller gargoyle, actually only a head, began to feel pity for him. “Give me a feather from your wing and I’ll help you.” The Raven was faithful to his witch, so he plucked out a feather. “Thank you, would you put it in my hair?” Once Raven had inserted it in a tiny hole in the gargoyle’s sculpted hair, he asked again. “I’m sorry, but there is no such thing. A stone is a stone and a seed is a seed.” “Although the seed of a stone could be a grain of sand,” he continued the head thoughtfully. “Perhaps my witch will accept that.” The bird picked up a grain of sand that had blown onto the ledge under the head and flew away. |
