Some rainbows are bright, some gray, some in colors you've never seen.
** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only **

The sun is always shining and there are always rainbows. If it's cloudy, the rainbow may be covered or in shades of gray. If the rain has just passed, the rainbow may be strong, clear, and brilliant. If the sky is crystal clear, the rainbow may appear in colors unexpected.

Whatever is going on for you, there's a rainbow out there somewhere. Look for it. And if you find it, let it brighten your day. Keep it in your heart to tide you over until you see the next one.

Gonna give this Johari Window thing a shot. If you think you know me or want to see what others think about me, follow the link then follow the directions.

Life is words in motion:
Flowing from mind, to hand, to page;
Sung from heart, to voice, to ear;
Life is words in motion.

~Douglas

The Human Touch
By Spencer Michael Free

‘Tis the human touch in this world that counts,
The touch of your hand and mine,
Which means far more to the fainting heart,
Than shelter and bread and wine;
For shelter is gone when the night is o’er,
And bread lasts only a day,
But the touch of the hand and the sound of the voice
Sing on in the soul always.

In the past two days, WDC has posted 3 or 4 site announcements and, while the news listed therein is great, it's not what I am waiting to hear. I entered the official writing contest last month and I am anxious to hear who won. Personally, I only want to win 2nd or 3rd. Why not 1st? Well, as easily as I could go through $100 at amazon.com, it isn't the $50 or $20 in WDC GPs that I could use to maintain my upgrade for another 6-12 months. As it is, I have enough right now for a 1 month continuance (which I will hopefully be able to get with a 20K bid in an auction). Now I know wanting the GP prizes may be sorta greedy, but I look at it this way: if I can maintain a long(er) term Upgrade with the prize, then I can start doling out GPs that I earn otherwise to other worthy causes and charities around the site.

That being said, I'm going to take a deep breath -- slow in through the nose, slow out through the mouth -- and settle myself down and be patient. It's bound to be announced soon enough... I hope.

I'm about ready to fire my current muses. Ever since the first of the month (or shortly thereafter) they seem to have abandoned me. The past several days I've been struggling to make the 500 words a day mark. And I haven't had any work done on "Unguarded" as far as new chapters goes. I'm wondering if perhaps I have even more muses but I need to find them each month. Or whether I need to feed the ones I already have with a different form of inspirational nutrition. Maybe I'll figure out the answer after a brief meeting I have tonight. *Frown**Confused*

I want to share a free site that will provide a random plot point for your story if you are having problems figuring out which direction you could go.

I say could instead of should simply because... well... if the should is determined strictly by the whim of the author/writer -- namely YOU! Whereas these plot points are random suggestions which you can flip through until you find/come across one that you feel may suit you and more importantly, your characters.

Give it a shot. What have you got to loose besides the time it takes to load the screen and click though a few ideas?

I turn 40 in less than two months and for the past 20+ years, when it came to tax time, I have only ever needed to file the 1040EZ. This year, however, because I did "private contractor" work for a non-profit company and was given a 1099MISC, I was required to file a 1040. And a Schedule SE-Short Form. And a Schedule CE Form. All because I received one extra little piece of paper. Now I know why people complain so much when it comes to doing their taxes.

Even though I was doing the most basic return I possibly could, I still had to have all those new forms printed out (thankfully free at the library) and flip through so many pages just to find out whether or not I needed to fill out other forms --let's just say that I am glad to know someone that I could call who could answer my questions quickly and immediately to help me sort it all out.

Ever before I have only had to worry about one or two (and maybe once, three) W-2 forms and no type of schedules, or forms, or receipts, or... or... or.... This year, as before, I didn't even think about trying to find whatever various deductions I may be eligible for. Principally because I don't keep receipts and never spend enough to qualify for a deduction or, if I did, not enough of a deduction to really make it worth my while.

All in all, though, I'm glad to have gotten it done relatively easily and quickly. Quick enough, at any rate, to be able to make it to the post office to buy a stamped envelope before the sales desk closed. And I was the last person in line to be able to do so. He he he he.

On a positive note, even though I had income that did not have taxes taken out of it, I still had my largest tax return ever by about a hundred dollars. So in this case, I suppose the larger headache is worth the larger return. Cool. *Thumbsup*

I live in a neighborhood/district of Houston that is frequently called "historic". A lot of old houses here, some probably even dating back to the late 1890s or early 1900s. But because of the laxness of the zoning and historic laws of Houston and Harris County (and I wouldn't be surprised of Texas, too) these wonderful old buildings are being torn down to make way for multi-family town homes and condos whose designs and facades in no way, shape(!), or form match the surrounding community and other housing. And some of these new buildings are truly horrendous. Ugh! What a waste of, well, everything.*Thumbsdown*

Imponderable of the day:
I'm not guaranteeing I'll do this every time I make a blog entry, but once in a while I'll pose a question that bothers me and that may in truth have no real answer. Here's today's:

Why is it call "Orange Pekoe" if it is actually a "black" tea?

... but rather a sign of real penmanship.

Most of the items I've written lately have been touching me in one way or another. My sad things make me cry or at least tear up. Funny stuff I actually and honestly laugh at. And now, something dark sends shivers up my spine and leave me wondering.

On that last note, I just wrote a poem which, though it has a kind and lighthearted twist at the end of the main body, has me wondering "what does it all mean" once the lines of the secondary portion are read. There is still a sense of eerieness to it for me at the end.

Now here's the interesting part about all these emotions: when I'm done and get those feelings, the next thing I feel is a sense of elation and, no matter how many people stop by to read it, there is precious little that needs to be changed - or so I'm told (or not told[?] by the lack of reviews).

Well, just take a look at this and tell me what you think. Is it just me and bad interpretation of what is going on? Or is it real?

I don't know what is going on with my writing lately, but everything that I write that has any real length to it ends up being a tear jerker. Take my latest contest entry, for example:

Now I'm not going to go and spoil the ending for you. But after I read it I feel like I've been taken on an emotional roller-coaster.

*Sigh*

I think I need more happy poetry prompts. They at least seem to be coming out on a more upbeat note. Or at least not sad.

Maybe I'll just go do some reviews. Find some inspiration there. Besides, I could use the auto GPs. *Rolleyes*

Oh, and if you can do a review of "My Son, Brian" I'd really appreciate it. It's for a contest with a 1,000,000 GP top prize (plus an MB and 150,000 trophy/plaque). I know it needs something more, but I haven't been able to find it yet. Maybe a week on the shelf will also help. The deadline isn't until the end of May anyways.

Oh, yeah. Forgot to say it. I did some port cleaning today: deleted a couple of things (no views since they were created), condensed folders, renamed folders, and created a guestbook "Invalid Item. So be sure to drop by and sign in.

See ya on the boards.

So I found another little secret that this site has if you know where to look and can read well enough to figure it out. If you noticed on the left under the calendar, I now have links to other blogs that I'll skip into every now and again. I don't often leave comments (though I am pleasantly surprised when someone does in mine), but I like to keep in touch with what is going on in friend's lives if they are willing to share.

I also included a couple of links to the two organizations that are important in my life on a regular basis -- both of which I've mentioned at one point or another (several times) in my blog here.

The ability to do both of these types of linking I discovered when I stopped by Sapphy's blog earlier today. Oh, I'm sure they've been there before and possibly on other blogs I've browsed through, I just never paid the side columns that much attention when I go visiting. I'm usually to busy complaining about how slow my computer is loading the selected page.

<><><><><>

I sent out a copy of my new poem "Invalid Item to several friends at church and choir yesterday. The responses, while I probably should have expected them because of the subject, surprised me with the emotions and thanks that have been shared and conveyed. I seem to be doing that in a lot of my writing lately, bringing tears to the eyes of my readers both on and off-site.

Well, I guess it's time to get back to my regular writing. My muse seems to be calling me again.

I'm not sure when it happened, but sometime during the past couple of days I hit the 250 portfolio base view mark. Now on to the next level of 500.

I finally found the inspiration to complete an acrostic poem that has been waiting for me for a couple weeks now. It was by far one of the most difficult -- and longest -- I've written yet. 44 lines long. I hope you'll check it out. Still needs a bit more polish I think but I'm not sure where or how at this time.

I can't resist the braging - and what else is a blog for if not to brag?

I just got notice that my poem "Invalid Item just won first place in the March round of the "ON WINTER BREAK item. And the prize of a 10K ribbon means this is the first item of mine that has won something other than GPs or an MB. So at some point today, the bitem link below will have a ribbon attached to it. Yeah, I'm just a show-off. *Wink*
