Some rainbows are bright, some gray, some in colors you've never seen.
** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only **

The sun is always shining and there are always rainbows. If it's cloudy, the rainbow may be covered or in shades of gray. If the rain has just passed, the rainbow may be strong, clear, and brilliant. If the sky is crystal clear, the rainbow may appear in colors unexpected.

Whatever is going on for you, there's a rainbow out there somewhere. Look for it. And if you find it, let it brighten your day. Keep it in your heart to tide you over until you see the next one.

Gonna give this Johari Window thing a shot. If you think you know me or want to see what others think about me, follow the link then follow the directions.

Life is words in motion:
Flowing from mind, to hand, to page;
Sung from heart, to voice, to ear;
Life is words in motion.

~Douglas

The Human Touch
By Spencer Michael Free

‘Tis the human touch in this world that counts,
The touch of your hand and mine,
Which means far more to the fainting heart,
Than shelter and bread and wine;
For shelter is gone when the night is o’er,
And bread lasts only a day,
But the touch of the hand and the sound of the voice
Sing on in the soul always.

I was just looking through some stats on my items and found something rather surprising. My crossword, "Invalid Item, has been accessed by three off-WDC sites. One of them is not functioning for some reason, but what surprised me were the other two that are working.

Both of these sites have listings of crosswords from WDC. The first is Puzzle.com. There are two columns on the particular page I viewed. The first column lists WDC crosswords and the second column lists puzzle.com crosswords. There were 2 puzzles on the puzzle.com side versus about 20 puzzles on the WDC side. How ironic is that?

The other site was orlandoherald.com. This time, though, was just a listing of about 30 WDC crosswords with no indication of where the puzzles are from (no mention of WDC that I could see).

Obviously the links work. Three of my puzzle viewers were from Puzzle.com and one from the Orlando Herald home page. Interesting, eh?

Yesterday was a fun but ultimately painful day.

Beginning at 7 AM (earlier if you want to include wake-up time).Had to meet up at the church with our handbell group to gather and load four octaves of bells, three octaves of chimes, six tables of padding and skirts, and all the other miscellanea into three vehicles and nine people into into four (including the equipment vehicles) for a roadtrip to Stafford on the outskirts of Houston. Yesterday was FebFest.

What is FebFest, you ask? Let me tell you.

Imagine, if you will, 45 to 50 handbell choir organizations gathering in one place for a six hour workshop then an hour and a half performance. They like to call it a concert, but I think you need more audience members than performers for it to be called a concert.

I gotta say, it is unlike anything you have ever heard. And it is most definitely an experience you would never forget. This is my third FebFest and they just keep getting better.

Yesterday's hours of ringing, lugging, set-ups and tear-downs were enough to make my wrists and arms very sore. Ibuprophen took care of that. But this morning, I woke up with painfully sore shoulders. But the events of today will only add to the agony and ecstacy.

Starting in forty-five minutes I start rehearsing for church performances. Handbells and the men of the church choir will both be performing in both services. Not together, though. Consider this: there will be 13 or 14 men singing; there are nine men in the handbell choir of twelve people; of the men in the handbell choir, eight of them (myself included) will be in the men's choir. o_O Yeah, you read that right. And the day isn't over after the second service. Handbells have another rehearsal in the afternoon.

I'm gonna be one very tired and sore puppy later this afternoon.

Just thought I'd make a small commemoration about a small event that happened yesterday.

My port views hit and topped 100!!! Yeah!

Next milestone, 250.

While I was reviewing tonight, I came across a rather unique, and perhaps new, rhyming poem format. The author of the piece didn't have a name for it, but as far as I can tell she is the originator of the style.

The stanza is built like this:

A/A/-/A
B/B/-/B
-/C
D/D/-/D
E/E/-/E
-/C

And here is the poem:

I am so intrigued with this format that I think I'm going to give it a try sometime soon. I'll be sure to post the link in here when I get it finished. If you do poetry, challenge yourself and try it too, then let me know where it is and whether you enjoyed doing it.

And it's not something that I've only just thought of. It's a question that has actually been bugging me for several years.

Why, when a television program mentions its airing time, will it mention Eastern and Pacific times (and on occasion Central time), but not Mountain time? Is it because the Mountain time zone has the smallest population of the four principle mainland zones? Once upon a time the Mountain time zone airing times were listed for a program but not any more.

And what about Alaska and Hawaii? I don't even know what the the names of the time zones they are in are called?

And finally, why am I so obsessed by this? There's nothing I can do about it and it doesn't really concern me. But... aaarrrrggghhhh! It's frustrating for network broadcasters to be ignoring such a large area of our country in this.

Boy, what a day with my handbell choir today!

We played a song in both services of church today. Since we were fully staffed, I had to take a bell position I hadn't played before for our song. I WAS SIGHT READING THROUGH THE MORNING REHEARSAL AND BOTH SERVICES! AAAAAARRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHH.

Needless to say, it wasn't a pretty sight... er, sound. I did get better eventually. Fortunately, there was some really good music by the Gospel Ensemble afterwards. Hopefully, that song is now long forgotten by the congregation.

To top things off, however, during rehearsal after services (and lunch *Smile* ) I had to sight read in 3 additional positions for upcoming performances because of people knowing they won't be there on those dates. At least I had a reason for doing so poorly. I don't know what everyone else's excuses were though. Oh, we really need to practice some more - on everything.

*********

Our handbell group is called HeavenSounds and we play at Resurrection MCC in Houston, TX. We have a 4 octave (G3 to G7) handbell set and a 3 octave (C3 to C6) chime set. When we get it all together, we sound really good despite the variety of proficiency levels represented. Our director, myself and one other ringer are the only ones (to my knowledge) who have done solos for the church. My last one was for the Christmas Eve service last year (07). Thankfully, I had two chances to get it right. I wasn't really happy with either one, but I could definitely live with the second performance. Also thankfully, that was the more heavily attended service. More people got to hear my play acceptably than heard me play miserably. And, the second service version was the one that made it onto the service CD. Praise be, and Glory Hallelulah for small miracles like that. I was so afraid that it would be the first service that would make it to the recording. I'd have had to find another church to go to.

Well, guess that's it for now. TTFN.

I just looked at the television schedule for tonight and as I expected, after one show (1 vs 100) and a short long distance phone call, I'll have all night to get back to doing more writing on my 'Unguarded' story/contest entry.

I guess that means this entry is going to be kept very short and sweet.

Some days you can just never trust any computer you have or get ahold of to work correctly. Thanks to the generosity of a friend, I've attempted to finally get connected to the internet by using 3 different computers. The first one worked fine initially, but something went wrong with a program load and now will not work except in "safe" mode. The second one never even recognized the modem was attached. I even went so far as to buy a new ethernet card and call the internet provider to verify that the modem was being properly read on their end (it was). Still no luck. So now I am borrowing a laptop for an undetermined length of time or I can buy a new computer for myself - whichever comes first.

So here's to the world of electronic gadgetry and their never ending quest to befuddle us all.

The next best thing to knowing the answer is knowing where to find it!
