Image for BCOF members to put in their blogs Prompt: "Write about being interrupted.."

I actually don't mind being interrupted no matter what I am doing. Of course there are some things I would prefer not to be interrupted doing, but I figure people are far more important than most anything I would be doing. The only possible exception is praying. I would probably be upset if somebody interrupted me if I were praying but otherwise people are my priority. If somebody has something going on that they see fit to interrupt me for, I figure it is urgent to them and I respect that. I will try to deal with their emergency. I guess perhaps that is Christ living in me because I once considered myself more important than anybody. Now I put Jesus first, others second, and myself last. If I was in an airplane and the oxygen mask dropped I would attend to myself first so that I would not blackout while taking care of others though. I guess it depends on the situation. As a rule though others come first.

Image for BCOF members to put in their blogs Prompt: "This is what I cannot throw away----------------------"

I can throw nearly anything away because if it was made by man it is just a material object and is replaceable. What I never throw away is my relationship with Jesus Christ and my love for people. People are not replaceable. Each of us is unique. Even identical twins are unique because they have different experiences and different perceptions. I have never found a person yet who did not have some redeeming qualities. Jesus felt the same way because He saw the entire human race as worth dying for. He died for us when we were unworthy actually, but in His mind it was love that gave us value. He loved us when we were unlovable and He expects the same from us. He wants and demands that we love one another. Some people ask how a loving God could condemn anybody to a burning Hell? He can do so because God is also a God of wrath. Wrath is undeniable anger. A jealous God wants us to willingly love Him. If we are unable to do so then then the love of God compels Him to grant our wishes and allow us to choose eternal separation from Him. That separation will be in Hell.

Blog City image small "Prompt: 2020. 1920. Do you like living in 2020 or do you wish you would have lived in 1920?"

I am perfectly content to be in 1920 though I can remember when I was in sixth or seventh grade, wondering how old I would be in 2020 and wondering if I would ever see 2020? Now it is 2020 and I am 58 years old. As I recall, I thought back then that I would be in my late 40's, but I was too lazy to do the actual math!

Image for BCOF members to put in their blogs Prompt: "On January 29th, 1595 William Shakespeare's play "Romeo and Juliet" is thought to have been first performed. Officially published early 1597. What was your initial reaction to the story? Did you like it or dislike it? Have you ever written a story like Romeo and Juliet?"

Now your are reminding me of my English Literature classes at school. In high school I studied Romeo and Juliet. We analyzed it and wrote reports about it before finally getting to see a Broadway production of it. I personally couldn't understand most of the antiquated language. I know that at the time of the performance it was very common to talk that way, but this is hundreds of years later. Let's talk normal!

Romeo and Juliet take us back to a different time and place. It was a time when families warred against families and there was not a lot of police intervention. The story of Romeo and Juliet could easily have been true. It is sad though that romance today is judged by standards applied to what actually amounted to a teenage crush. Romeo and Juliet did not know each other well enough to have been "in love". They had barely met.

Another thing I have to say is that nothing is ever worth taking your own life for.

Image for BCOF members to put in their blogs "Prompt: on January 28, 1754 Horace Walpole wrote a letter to Horace Mann. In that letter Mr. Walpole coined the word serendipity. Write about serendipity."

Serendipity is "the occurrence and development of events by chance in a happy or beneficial way:" according to Google. I don't believe in serendipity. I believe that God is in control of my life, though He uses the choices I make to bring about the logical consequences. Yes my life is usually pretty good because I am learning to make better choices. I am still paying for the mistakes of my past, some of which have longer consequences than others. However I don't believe that anything just happens by chance, but that all things have causes. Yes we do have "freak accidents" that seemingly come out of nowhere, but something caused the accident. It didn't just happen. If a boulder rolls down a hill and hits a car, something caused the boulder to roll and the car just happened to be in the wrong place at the right time. Do I believe it was luck? No, I believe it was a series of events culminating in a moment. I believe that Jesus is in charge and I trust Him to know what He is doing, even when the consequences harm me in some way. I recently had a huge kidney stone and it blocked my ureter so that my kidney was damaged. I could have blamed God because I have Stage III kidney failure. I choose not to do so because God did not force me to drink nothing but soda and thus do the damage. In fact, He warned me through several professionals that I needed to drink more water but I didn't listen. I consider it my responsibility. Preachers warn people all the time about being eternally separated from God in Hell. People say "How could a loving God do that?"

A loving God is not doing it. A loving God sent His Son (basically became human and died Himself) to accept the punishment due us. All we have to do is ask that same God to forgive us, repent and allow Him to rule in our hearts. He will guide our behavior and our thoughts to improvement and He will save us. However if we choose to ignore Him He will allow us to go to Hell because we choose to go there. He gives us the choice because He loves us and wants us to willingly, freely love Him in return. Make the right decisions! Whatever you do don't blame chance or serendipity for your circumstances. Blame your choices for them.

Blog City image small "Prompt: Author Brad Meltzer says he admires honesty in writing the most. What do you think honesty in writing is, especially when you are writing fiction?"

I believe honesty in writing is when an author is him/herself and does not try to come across as something different. It's really hard to explain but I guess if they typically use common words in their spoken language I prefer them to use the same language in their writing. In other words don't try to hide your personality but let it shine through in your writing style. I also think it is okay to allow the characters in our stories to be human. I watch the syndicated television show "Walker, Texas Ranger" all the time and I often question myself for doing so because the guy never makes a mistake and absolutely nothing seems to stop him. I often wonder when they are going to have him stopping bullets with his teeth? I mean make your characters a little more human. We all make mistakes so allow your characters to do so as well.

Image for BCOF members to put in their blogs "Prompt: Do you use an old fashion alarm clock--any type of alarm clock that existed before smartphones--or do you use a smartphone as your alarm clock? What are the advantage and/or disadvantages to the alarm clock you use?"

I use my beat up old smart phone for an alarm clock, mainly because I can keep multiple alarms on it. During the holidays I was working seventeen hours per day and sleep was a commodity. I still had certain places I had to be at certain times so I would set multiple alarms to wake me up so that I could be there. Then I would take "power naps" during the interim. Now I have an alarm set for the time I have to wake up to work, another set for my medicine, and another set to wake me after a short nap. I have narcolepsy so I take Adderal to keep me awake. I know I am not going to sleep after I take it, even if I need some more sleep. So I sleep for 45 minutes after I first take it and by then it is time for it to stimulate me. The alarm still goes off but it's sort of redundant. I also use the alarms as reminders at times. If I have to do something I don't normally do and it is several hours before time to do it I set an extra alarm. Then the alarm serves as a note to remind me of my chore. Like right now, I am going to visit a man in the hospital in my capacity as chaplain. The alarm is set to remind me of my appointment.

Joe Abercrombie, Last Argument of Kings
What do you think about this quote and do you believe you have stopped making mistakes?"

I won't speak for anybody else. I'll just say I have never been wrong. I thought I was once but it turned out I was mistaken!

Of course I screw up! If I didn't I wouldn't be human. I'd be Jesus Christ, who was both completely human and completely God. He was perfect and we killed Him for it.

Rowan and Martin's Laugh in was a show my dad never missed. I never thought it was all that funny, but he loved it. Rowan always wore a carnation for a brooch. Garnet I won't touch. I know there's a stone called garnet. I'm just a poor man. I wouldn't know one if I saw it. I am wearing slippers as I write this. Birch makes good furniture but not as good as oak,

I am delighted every day when I wake up with another opportunity to serve the Lord and love on my fellow man.

Image for BCOF members to put in their blogs Prompt: "What are your most epic failures (and how did you overcome them)?"

I look at things a little differently. I've probably failed at a lot of things if you want to be negative and look at them as failures. I choose to look at them as "learning experiences and as such I've never had a failure. Sure I've had to try again and again, but I never failed at anything I put my mind to doing. Now do overs on the other hand I've had plenty of. College was a do over for me. I first began working on my bachelor degree in 1997. I dropped out of college in 2000, just three semesters shy of obtaining my goal. I do not consider that a failure. It was merely a retreat as I worked out my financial aid and some other issues. I finished my degree in December 2019 at a more prestigious school than the little known college I had started with. There are no failures, only minor setbacks.

Blog City image small "Prompt: "Is there something that has frustrated you recently? Talk about it."

If anything frustrated me it was my lack of faith during my recent health crisis. I know and I knew that Jesus Christ has it all under control. He needed to get my attention about a problem that was destroying my kidneys and He did so. I was in a lot of pain and to be honest I was a bit worried. The worry aggravates me because I knew God had it all under control. I was worried over nothing. I need to change some habits and give up an addiction. I was drinking two to four liters of Mountain Dew per day and it ruined my kidneys. They are recovering now. I'm frustrated because I am laid up for awhile, but I need to recuperate. God knows best.

Image #1997652 over display limit. -?- Prompt: "Every one wants to write a blog entry using these words, okay all most everyone. ... ridicule, impostor, silk, banana, green, determined, and saturation. Have fun!"

I don't know that everyone wants to write a blog using these words but the sentiment came through. We have to watch using local slang in our wording because it misleads people. I get a lot of ridicule from my friends because of the slang I grew up with. I habitually use it and now I live three hours south of where I came from. People aren't used to some of my words. They call me an impostor from the north. I think I talk as smooth as silk but they sometimes disagree. In stead of saying banana I would say "nana". If I am refering to the color green I may say "keller green". I'm determined to learn to speak their dialect. I guess if I get enough saturation I eventually will.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. "Letter from Birmingham Jail," April 16, 1963
Use this quote to inspire today's blog entry."

This statement sounds very politically motivated today. We're right in the middle of an impeachment trial for Donald Trump. Everybody wants justice. Some wish for him to remain in office. Others want him out. I personally look around at the economy and see that the bad numbers are down and the good numbers are going up. However did Trump do that or are we feeling Obama's policies as some say. I don't know. I'm no political scientist. I won't try to second guess. I just know the Democrats have wanted trump out since day one. We all remember hius move in day with out spoken democrats protesting across the street. Pathetic.
