Just an image I was preparing a Sunday school lesson today. It posed a question that I am going to ask you and then we'll probably return to Proverbs with the next prompt. Today's question is:

What would it mean for us to be agents of God's transforming grace, going where Jesus would go, touching those Jesus would touch, and worrying less about who is clean and unclean?

Note: I know that social distancing rules still apply. This is getting out of our comfort zones.

I know that it is currently not kosher to touch anybody. This prompt though is referring to when we can. If we become willing to step outside of the boxes that we put ourselves in, we would not only find the kingdom of God growing but we would find ourselves richly blessed. All too often we are unwilling to associate with people we consider different from us. At times it is not safe to do so. However, if we take a chance we are more likely to find ourselves blessed than harmed. Instead of walking to the other side of the street to avoid the homeless person we bypass every morning how about we walk up to them and buy them a cup of coffee and a hot meal? We don't have to preach to them. All we would have to do is buy them the meal. When they ask why we are being kind to them tell them that we have been down and out and somebody helped us. Avoid religion and preaching. Just show love. The preaching will come in time. For now, we just prepare the soil.

If it isn't the homeless person let's choose another population we typically don't associate with. Find a way to touch the untouchables and in so doing spread the gospel.

Waves of Grief  (13+)
Emotional Oddquain format poem
#2159456 by 🌸 pwheeler - love joy peace

Let's focus on grief. What are your thoughts?"

I deal with grief and grieving people all the time. Grief is an often misunderstood emotion. Many people think that grief is something one experiences only when a loved one dies. It is not. Grief can occur at the loss of anything. It can be the loss of a job, the loss of a relationship, the loss of anything we cherish. Grief is the most natural thing in the world. There is no improper way to grieve, no limit on how long we can grieve, or no particular way we should grieve.

If I had a choice of what I was going to dream about, I would dream about heaven. Then when it became a reality for me I could realize just how far off base my concepts and preconceived notions really are.

Blog City image small "Prompt: The very act of writing, what does it feel like to you? A wandering or wondering, walking away from immediate world like the internet, etc., a meditation in loneliness, protecting your heart or mind, the comforting happy feeling of following through the thing that inspires you at the moment, the hope of being published or republished down the line or what?"

To me, writing is all of the above and more. It is working for a grade, doing the research, learning new things, and being my best.

Just an image This week we will be in Proverbs 13. Prompt: "Proverbs 13:3 says "Those who guard their mouths preserve their lives: those who open wide their lips come to ruin."

Do you think Solomon is talking about gluttony here? What exactly is he saying?"

This is a passage that I would have to do a deep dive to properly interpret. I could do the research if I had the time but most people do not have the resources to research it thoroughly. By that I mean to say that most people do not have access to concordances, Lexicons, university library research databases, and so forth. I believe God would have kept it simple.

On first reading this could be interpreted as saying basically that those who keep their tongues under control may well save their own life while those with big mouths may get the stuffing beaten out of them. I think the passage does mean that. It also means that the person who keeps his words under control will not end up saying something he/she will later regret. Believe me, I have eaten crow a thousand different ways and there is no good way to do so! It's all a humbling experience. We all need a little crow and a serving of humble pie but indulge sparingly!

How do you feel about humanity?"

I feel that humanity is a doomed race. We are falling apart at the seams because we will not adhere to God's words. What God calls evil we call good. This is not to be and it will bring our destruction.

Writers fail to realize that people could care less about how good your material is. If they have never heard of you they will seldom read you. Marketing is key.

Just an image Proverbs 12:11 says "He tilleth his land shall be satisfied with bread: but he that followeth vain persons is void of understanding."

What does this mean?"

It means don't be lazy. I was lazy most of my life. I wasn't really lazy I guess. Just too trusting and too gullible. I was always taught to believe what people say and not to have my own opinions. I believed that garbage for a long time. Teachers in school called me "slow" because I had a head injury that prevented me from understanding complex concepts right away. I believed them as well. Then when I was 15 I was diagnosed with bi-polar disorder and told I would never hold a job. So I never really tried. I am 59 with no work history but have outgrown all the voices that I believed. I have two bachelor degrees, two associate degrees, and I'm working on my first Master's degree. I will likely be in school the rest of my life as I plan to pursue a post-doctorate degree. I will also be doing mental health counseling along the way to teach others not to believe anybody who says a disability will hold them back. I will also work with addicts as I believe many addicts believe those voices. Solomon calls those voices "fools" in this passage.

"The author talks about inspiration. Where does your inspiration come from?"

To be honest, I don't do much creative writing these days. I am a college student so most of my creative energy goes into writing scholarly papers. My inspiration comes from wanting good grades.

Blog City image small Prompt: "Superman was a daily newspaper comic strip which began on January 16, 1939, and a separate Sunday strip was added on November 5, 1939. These strips ran continuously until May 1966. In 1941, the McClure Syndicate had placed the strip in hundreds of newspapers. At its peak, the strip, featuring Superman, was in over 300 daily newspapers and 90 Sunday papers, with a readership of over 20 million. My grandfather had a s scrapbook with his favorite comic strips all carefully preserved.

Do you read cartoon strips in the newspaper? Comic strip books? Graphic Novels? Or do you prefer watching them in the movies?"

No. I don't. Once in a great while I will read Hagar, Beetle Baily, and such. Very rarely.

Just an image Prompt: "I just spent the entire day researching and writing a research paper about Ruth 4. I think I will ask a question based on Ruth today. Then we'll go back to Proverbs.

Why do you think the unnamed next-of-kin refused to redeem the land when he found out Ruth came with the land? After all, she was a foreign widow and basically a slave. She would have added value to his estate in that respect."

I spent the entire day yesterday writing a 1500 word paper about Ruth 4:1-10 and listening to some seminars playing in the background that I have to have for my licensure. I have a good skeleton now. Today I have to rip the paper apart and rewrite it. If you really want to learn about the Bible try writing exegesis papers about passages of it. Exegesis is when you take a passage of scripture and do a deep dive to research its meaning. You read scholarly papers about it and search the various aspects of the background. It can take hours to do a good exegesis but you learn tons about the culture and the Bible.

Today's prompt is about Ruth and Boaz. It asks why the unnamed next-of-kin refused to redeem the land when he found out that Ruth came with the land. Ruth was a foreigner living in Israel. Worse yet she was a widow. For all intents and purposes, she was Naomi's servant or slave. If the unnamed next-of-kin had redeemed the land he would have bought Ruth with the land. He did not have to marry her as many assume because she was not a citizen. The right of levir or the Jewish law stating that the next-of-kin of a deceased man had to marry the deceased man's wife and have a child with her in the deceased man's place did not apply. Ruth was essentially a slave. No. I believe there was another reason for the next-of-kin's strange behavior. I am going to postulate in my paper today that the next-of-kin turned it down because he knew that Boaz was either married to Ruth or wanted to marry her. The next-of-kin in the city gate would have been well aware of the flames between Boaz and Ruth. He backed out because he respected Boaz and was not about to interfere in Boaz's personal affairs. I believe that is exactly why he backed out. Ruth was a slave. She would have added to the value of his estate. Yet he stated that he did not want to jeopardize his inheritance. Incurring the wrath or the jealousy of a wealthy, powerful man like Boaz is the only logical explanation for this statement. If Boaz got jealous over Ruth the next-of-kin's estate could well have been threatened. My paper will reflect this position and subject it to scholarly review. We'll see how it goes over.

Image #2235060 over display limit. -?- Prompt: "Proverbs 12:9 says "He that is despised, and hath a servant, is better than he that honoureth himself, and lacketh bread."

What do you suppose the author means by this?"

I believe Solomon was eluding to the fact that even though God favors poor people over the rich, it is better to be a rich person than it is to be an arrogant, proud person. The problem is not money. The problem is what the money does to us. If it makes us forget God then having money is a problem. If it makes us greedy then it is a problem. Pride and arrogance are always a problem. So it is better to be rich enough to have a servant and to be hated by others because of jealousy than it is to be proud.

What will the diligent rule? What is a tribute and why are the slothful under it?"

God inspired Solomon to essentially tell us here that those who are diligent and on the ball will rule their own lives. Of course God is always the first person in charge of our lives, but if we are hard-working and on the ball, we will be second in command. Yes, we will always have bosses. No matter who we are we have other humans that we answer to. This proverb is not saying we will be independent and answer to nobody. It is saying that we will be in charge of our own lives. Nobody will tell us when to come and go. We will have a level of independence. The slothful on the other hand find themselves dependent on others. The tribute they pay is their self-worth. They surrender it because others tell them when to come and go when to eat when to sleep. They lose their sense of self. They become tributaries paying others for protection and care.

Shadows and Light Poetry Contest
#2239288 by Anna Marie Carlson

What are your views about this poem?"

I agree with the author of this poem that times are definitely changing. These days gender roles are becoming blurred and people often don't know right from wrong. Chivalry as this young lady wants has long since died in the world. I used to open doors for ladies and offer to help if I thought they were distressed. I did so until a woman chewed me out for offering. She said I was a chauvanist pig. I told her "No. I am not a chauvanist. I simply saw you trying to change a flat tire and doing it in a way that would have torn the bumper off of your car and gotten you hurt. I thought I would prevent that but you go right on and hurt yourself."

She apologized and said she certainly did not want to damage her car or hurt herself and asked me to go ahead and change the tire for her. I did so but have not offered to help anybody like that since. I'm always afraid I will offend somebody and that is certainly not my intention.

Another problem is that people take things the wrong way. I say hello to nearly everybody I meet except for teen aged girls or younger women. I don't speak to them because I had a young woman call me a perverted old fool for speaking to her. She apparently thought she was God's gift to men and I was flirting with her. I was simply acknowledging that she existed.

Yes. Times are changing and they have not changed for the better. The Apostle Paul particularly told us that all of this was going to happen and prophecy is being fulfilled. It will only get worse.

I hate paying for services I will never use just to get something I actually need. For example, I have needed programs for my computer but to get the program I had to buy a "membership" in some site that I would probably never use again. Then the membership is a one-month plan that bills to your debit card and then overdraws your bank account when you neglect to deduct it the following month or fail to find the miniature "cancel membership" link which is so small you either can't see it or completely non-existent. If I ripped people off that way I'd be locked up for fraud. When they do it they say it is "good business practices."

I love the prompt! What is the unicorn's name? Is it a stallion or a mare?

I live in the Mountain State of West Virginia but the fact of the matter is that there is not a single mountain in our state. A mountain has to be at least 5,000 feet high to be called a mountain. Our highest peak is Spruce Knob in Raleigh County, which tops out at 4,280 feet, 180 feet short of being a real mountain. Ironic huh?

Image #2235060 over display limit. -?- This week we are moving to Proverbs 12. If you all grow weary of Proverbs let me know. Proverbs 12:3 says "No one finds security by wickedness, but the root of the righteous will never be moved."

Solomon is not referring to material security here. We all know some very wicked people who are financially very secure. What Solomon is talking about here is the security of heaven and oneness with God. He is also talking about peace of mind and contentment. Wicked people are often paranoid and guilt-ridden. Believers are usually calm in the face of adversity. I have had people ask me how I could be so calm when I was in danger. When my kidney was on the verge of rupturing due to a blockage I remained calm. The doctor scratched his head in amazement for he knew I was in a great deal of pain. He asked me about it. I told him that nothing on earth was permanent and that if I was to die Jesus was in control.

Image #2235060 over display limit. -?- Prompt: "Proverbs 11:27 says "Whoever diligently seeks good seeks favor, but evil comes to the one who searches for it."

In what ways have you seen this come true?"

I was raised a little differently. My father always told us not to go out looking for trouble. We weren't to cause fights. However, if somebody so much as looked at us disrespectfully we were ordered not to let it slide. We were expected to settle the matter with force. If we got beat then we got a second beating a home. I don't know how many people I hurt badly due to that.

I do remember one time my uncle exemplified what Solomon is talking about. My uncle had stopped at a local wayering hole and drank a beer. He was not alcoholic so he drank half a beer and left. Three men followed him from the bar taunting him because he did not finish the beer. He got in his car and drove away. The men followed him and kept blowing their horn at him and yelling out the window for him to go back and finish the beer with them. He drove the three or four miles home to my grandparents house and the guys stayedf with him. He got out of the car and whipped all three of them to within an inch of being unconscious. I heard him say to them as he was walking away and they were writhing on the ground "Look for trouble and you usually find it."

I took that to heart. I tried to never instigate problems but I never backed down once it found me. Now I back down all the time because Jesus said to turn the other cheek. I usually don't have a problem. Most people consider me a friend. The occasional person who does not like me I tolerate. If they threaten me I call security or the law. I had a man yesterday start screaming at me. He accused me of removing an ad from a bulletin board or something. I told him I had put a paper on the bulletin board but took none off. He shouted "Liar, liar. You jailbird. You are a thief."

I told him that was enough of that. If he wanted to be forced to prove in court that I was a criminal to call me one again publicly and he'd get his chance. I am a professional with professional licenses and slander like that could ruin my career. If he said it again I would sue him.

He apologized for calling me a criminal and said that perhaps he had made a mistake about the paper. We shook hands and walked away to have dinner together.

What do you think?

I am no judge of poetry although I love reading it. This author writes as if it is their desire to become a piece of the woodwork...out of sight and out of mind. I know that feeling. I have less than fifty years, probably less than 30 years left on this planet if I live to 85. I want them to go by peacefully.

My favorite season is spring because the weather is warmer and life is renewed.

Or if you would rather discuss Twitter banning Trump permanently? Will it really make a difference or is it another grandstanding moment?"

The impeachment will not even make it to committee before Biden is sworn in and Trump leaves office. The liberal left has tried to impeach him since he got into office. This is all grandstanding and they know it. What idiot spends millions of dollars ousting a lame duck president? Nancy Pelosi is what idiot!

Why is it hard for many to believe this proverb?"

Many do not believe this proverb because they look at the profit and gain through carnal eyes. They believe profit refers to having untold wealth and riches in this life and in a sense that is true. Believers do have untold wealth and riches in this life but the wealth and riches we have are spiritual. It is not material. I am one of the richest men in my building but I do not have money. Financially I eek by month to month, week to week, and day to day. Spiritually though I am very rich because I am content with what I have. I have peace of mind that many do not begin to comprehend. I want for nothing. I am at peace with my fellow man and I respect myself. My riches are far more valuable to me than all the money in the world or all the wealth on earth. I owe it all to Jesus Christ.

What expectations did you have at the beginning of 2020 and 2021?

I didn't have any expectations at the beginning of 2020 except that I was going to take one day at a time and deal with it as it unfolded. I'll do the same for 2021.

I watch very little television. I certainly would not waste my time watching competitions.

The wealthy always get rich off the poor people's misery.
