The prompt is “Twice upon a time?” I exclaimed

I think I have one of those "story processor" machines. It sits here one my desk and makes all kinds of mistakes. I will type something that I am positive is right the way I want it but it will be changed by the story processor. I am a graduate student so homework assignments have to be perfect. If the spacing between lines is off by even one mm I can be docked for it. Yet my story processor (computer) does not want to follow the parameters I set for it. I set them as default and it still spaces one or two lines differently or puts and extra space between paragraphs. I go through and manually change all of that and pray the changes stay in place. Numbered lists are the worst and I have to use numbered lists for footnotes in Turabian format. They end up leaving a huge blank space at the bottom of the paragraph that I still have not figured out how to get rid of.

Image for BCOF members to put in their blogs "Prompt: What is your favorite summer treat?"

Anybody who knows me can answer that one. My favorite summer treat is ice cream. I eat it all year round. It can be below zero outside or bitter cold and I will stand in the snow and eat ice cream. I love ice cream. The problem is that it doesn't love me back. Well yes, I guess it does. It clings to me. I have wondered a few times if I should bypass my mouth and rub it directly onto my waist because that is where it ultimately ends up!

Blog City image small Prompt: "What are your plans for the weekend?"

What weekend? I have to study!

Losing Your Voice  (13+)
A comedic look at the experience of losing one's voice. (My FIRST item on WDC.)
#383949 by Sophy

The prompt is "What would you do if you lost your voice?

I have lost my voice before and it was no fun. I came down with a case of tonsilectomy when I was in my late 20"s. The doctor had to remove them. I was so sore I could barely talk. I was able to get the words out but I sounded a lot like a bullfrog. I croaked my words more than I talked. I stammer a lot as it is and that is due to a speech impediment. I do not make a good public speaker.

Image for BCOF members to put in their blogs Prompt: "Use these words in your blog today: crimson, denied, rage, brown, body."

Crimson is the color I turn when I embarrass myself. Sometimes I turn that color when I hear other people's stupidity, but then it is usually a combination of embarrassment and anger.Denied is the response I get when I ask God for something I don't need. Rage is what I feel at the new outbreaks of COVID-19. If people would just use a little common sense! Brown is the color my body turns on days like today if I get too much sun. It will turn crimson first.

Blog City image small Prompt: "Discuss this quote “There are wounds that never show on the body that are deeper and more hurtful than anything that bleeds.”
― Laurell K. Hamilton"

I agree. I think we all carry those psychological scars that will never go away. Forgiveness helps us get beyond them.

Captain's Blog: I need to explain to my officers that we are on the Starship WDC Constitution. The galaxy we cruise through is 100% WDC. The Portfolios are the star systems. The authors are the stars themselves. What we officers do is select one of those star systems at random (raid a portfolio) and choose a story or an article or something to read. We then choose a line from the article to post as the prompt.

To be honest, I try to forget my childhood. It was usually not much fun.

Blog City image small "Prompt: Do you like being alone or do you like being around people?"

I am a people person. I lived alone once and went for 4-5 days at a time without seeing another person. I nearly went insane with boredom and loneliness. It was not pleasant. I know people who prefer to be alone but that is not how I am wired.

Yes.. I was in a case of mistaken identity. There was a man who lived in a city in another state just across the border from me who was always getting into trouble. His last name was very similar to mine and he had the exact same first name. I saw his mugshot once and it was like looking into a mirror. The sad thing is that our social security numbers were similar as well. They were different by two numbers.

I use to hitchhike everywhere I went. This was back when it was safe to do so. One morning I was hitchhiking through Moundsville WV when a deputy sheriff pulled over. He asked for ID and ran it through and began to prepare to drive away satisfied. Suddenly he stopped, got out of the car with a shotgun levelled on me and told me to hit to pavement face down. He arrested me with me asking what for. He said "Robbery".

He took me to the local jail and held me for fifteen minutes. Then he came in and carrying a picture of my double. He showed it to me, profusely apologizing for arresting me. I told him I understood and was glad he was doing his job. He offered to take me to my destination, which was the next town up the river. It all worked out well.

The last I heard my double was doing some hard time in federal prison. He will not be out for a while and maybe deceased by now. I had run into problems with him before so it was not surprising when I was arrested for him that day. The shotgun I could have done without!

Image for BCOF members to put in their blogs Prompt: "I decided to look for a small stone every day. They are nothing special, yet they are because I am visually aware of my surroundings. I am taking note of things in a way I never did before.
What do you do to make yourself visually aware of your surroundings? Not just notice it but to scrutinize, engage with it even love it."

The primary thing I do to make myself aware of my surroundings is the study about them. Stones are oddities to me. They have been around since the dawn of time and will be around until the end of the planet. I took a geology class, well actually two geology classes and a biology class, and I can say that science is different. I didn't agree with much of it but it was eye-opening, to say the least.

Blog City image small "Prompt: Make a list of the 10 best moments of your life."

1. Birth, though I don't remember it

2. Salvation at age nine

3. Graduation from junior college

4. Opening my RBA and knowing I had graduated from undergraduate school.

5. Being accepted at graduate school.

6. Swearing in as a soldier at the Salvation Army

7. Becoming a local officer at the Salvation Army

8. Being accepted into the MSW program at Marshall University

9. Adopting my son

10. The highlight was being called to minister the gospel of Jesus Christ.

** Image ID #1967567 Unavailable ** Prompt: :Normal: What does normal mean to you? Is it good or bad to be normal?"

Normal fluctuates for different people. Normal for one may be sticking their tongue against a frozen pipe in the wintertime. Normal for another may be never seeing winter time. Normal varies.

This image was created by the talented by Sharmelle's Expressions! Prompt: Stardate 4157.2 Day 2

We are in the second star system of our journey. This one is the home of our own Second-in-Command Lt. Commander Bubblegum Jones !

The planet is

The prompt is: "Great stories are written by great people, and we each hold the power within us of writing a story."

Analyze and report. Have fun!

I believe what Bubblegum Jones is saying here is that all of us have the ability to write if we just decide to do so so. Some of us may not find is as rewarding as others, but if we can communicate at all we should be able to write, at least on a functional level. Creativity is a human trait. It is hard-wired into our personalities and into our natures to create and to communicate. Storytelling may seem difficult but we do it all the time. If we make a report to a boss we are telling a story. If we communicate some memory to somebody we are telling a story. I agree with Number Two. We each hold the power within us to tell a story.

Image for BCOF members to put in their blogs "Prompt: Use these words in your post: delight, sky, and pasta."

What a delight to be eating pasta while cruising through the sky. Of course, I say that tongue in cheek because anybody who has ever eaten the meals served on an airplane knows they leave a lot to be desired. I have never really traveled extensively by airplane but I have been subjected to one or two of these so-called meals and I thought they were hideous.

Blog City image small "Prompt: “Real beauty is in the fragility of your petals. A rose that never wilts isn’t a rose at all.”
Crystal Woods
About roses or people, do you agree?"

I agree. People and plants are not meant to last forever. I also agree that people aren't meant to be emotionless automatons. We eventually are going to have a bad day. When we do we break down. As Woods says it we wilt. It happens to everybody.

Welcome... Prompt: "Transportation: Write about taking your favorite (or least-favorite) form of transportation."

I love flying. I was a member of the Civil Air Patrol for a long time and I was a member of the flight crew. I flew either in the right seat as what we called an "Observer" or in the rear seat as a "scanner". The Observer watches out the right side of the aircraft for the target and monitors and operates the radio equipment. The scanner sits in the rear seat and "scans" the ground using a certain pattern to find the target. The target may be a missing aircraft.

Fifty things  (E)
My list of things I want to accomplish before I croak.
#1167975 by Mrs. Whatsit

has fifty things on a bucket list. Name ten things you would put on your
bucket list.

I would have quite a few things on my bucket list. First of all, I would want to write and finish a book. It would likely be a dissertation because my second thing would be to finish my Ph. D. The third thing would be to help as many addicts as I could to find recovery. It need not only be addicts though. There are all sorts of hurting people. I'd want to help them get past the hurt, so they could do the same for others. I'd want to make a difference and leave my mark on the world. I hate to think I could die without being remembered for something. Then I would want to visit some sights. The Grand Canyon would be nice for example and maybe Rushmore, the Eiffel Tower in Paris, Notre Dame. and other sites. I'd also want to see the ocean. I'm fifty-nine years old. I've seen the Chesapeake Bay and Lake Erie. I was within half a mile of the ocean in Maryland and never went to see it. I have never seen it. I studied it in college but never saw it.

I'd also like to ride a Space X launch or some launch. Imagine sitting over top of all that raw power, moving at such incredible speeds! I understand that upon approaching Earth gravity for reentry the Apollo crews approached speeds of 36,000 feet per second! Imagine moving at a speed of 6 miles per second!

My bucket list would be pretty full. Then as Kåre Enga in Montana said in her list there are several things I would not want to revisit. Washington DC is one and New York, New York is another.

Image #1997652 over display limit. -?- Prompt: "What I can say is that all my characters are searching for their souls, because they are my mirrors. I'm someone who is constantly trying to understand my place in the world, and literature is the best way that I found in order to see myself." Paulo Coelho
What do you think?"

I think he's partially right. I find myself in literature, but not all literature. I find myself in God's word and some self-help books that are based on the principles found in God's word. I identify well with the Big Book (Alcoholics Anonymous). It is a recommended read for everybody, whether alcoholic or not. Applying those principles changes any life. They are all from the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5.

Image #1971183 over display limit. -?- Prompt: “Loss sets its own clock. It distorts time and memory, makes days and years short and perpetual all at once.”
From How Fires End by Marco Rafalà

How does loss, any loss, affect you? Can we ever prevent losing something or someone?"

Loss is tough. When we lose things part of our life goes with it. Losing loved ones is particularly tough. I lost my wife in September of 2014. Five months later in January 2015 I lost my father. Then in July of 2015 I lost my mother. A year later in July of 2016 my brother was killed. I suffered tremendously. God reminded me that He too had suffered loss and He was there to comfort me. I never thought of God as a grieving parent but He is. Jesus death is constantly new to Him as He is there constantly since He transcends time and is omnipresent. That helps me with losses.

Image #1701068 over display limit. -?- Prompt: Current Events

I am not a big one for watching the news so I don't really keep up with all of the current events. However, I did happen to see the news about the police shootings recently. I don't know that everybody will agree with my opinion but here goes:

I believe the police officer in Minneapolis should be charged not only with murder one but with a hate crime. It is obvious from the video that he murdered Mr. Floyd. There was no sense in such brutality. I hope they prosecute him.

The shooting in Atlanta was the result of the victim's stupidity. When a police officer is arresting you, the last thing you want to do is resist. Then the man actually grabbed the tazer and ran away firing the tazer at the officer and expected the officer not to subdue him? Was it excessive force. Perhaps. Perhaps the police officer could have hit him in the shoulder or even thrown a nightstick and tripped the man. The point is that the officer could not be sure in the heat of the moment what he had in his hands. Perhaps the officer did not realize the man had stolen his tazer and thought he had a gun? I think there is reasonable doubt. In Minneapolis no doubt it was murder. Atlanta? Reasonable doubt.

Image #1967457 over display limit. -?- Your Bed: Describe where you sleep each night.

I live at the West Virginia Veterans Home in Barboursville WV. I sleep in a dorm room, although I admit that I have the biggest room on the floor. I am the floor leader and one of the perks is that I am allowed to have a room by myself. I was the only man in what used to be a four-bed room. When I became floor leader they let me stay in it by myself so I have the entire room to myself. I love it though I get up at 4:30 to work.

Banana Bar Prompt: "In the spirit of saving the best for last, let's explore life's greatest mystery - What awaits us in the after-life? My spiritual being believes in eternal life, but scientifically speaking I struggle with the concept.""

I am a Christian and I believe judgment into either eternal life or eternal separation from Jesus awaits in the afterlife.
As Andre said in the prompt: "My spiritual being believes in eternal life, but scientifically speaking I struggle with the concept."

I went through a period in which I was an atheist and that part of me still exists. I am trying to snuff it out altogether, but the logical part of my being says that some things don't make sense. I know I have to take those things on faith. By faith, I believe and now as I grow closer and closer to Jesus my faith takes on new aspects. The atheist is slowly dying altogether.

Cruising WDC cyberspace and raiding ports for blog prompts!
#2223838 by Sharmelle's Expressions

I hope some of you will join in the fun! The idea is a trip through the WDC "galaxy" on an imaginary spacecraft called the WDC Constitution. The stars or authors of WDC are the stars of this galaxy. Their ports are the planets circling those "stars". Either one of the team leaders or I (when the group begins to fill up) will choose one of the stories or poems in an authors port and select a line from that story, poem or article to use for a prompt. The bloggers will be the crew of the starship exploring that "planet" and we will analyze the specimen (sentence chosen by the leader as a blog prompt.) The author will be given full credit for the prompt and a bitem will appear in our blogs to link to it. The author gets advertised and we get to blog. It's a win-win for everybody! In order to get the blog prompt I need you to sign up for a group so I can mail it to you just like the prompts for other forums. Sign up by sending me an email and I will include you. I need both officers to help me send emails and choose prompts from individual ports and regular bloggers. If all works out I would like to set it up so we can collectively choose a Blogger of the Week and maybe a Blogger of the Month.

Image #1997652 over display limit. -?- Prompt: Tell us about your relationship with food.

Now you are getting too personal. *Rolleyes*. No, actually I am overweight. The American Association of Retired People (AARP) has a Body Mass Index Calculator that all you do is type in your weight and your height and it tells you where you fall on the scale from underweight to obese. It is at https://www.aarp.org/health/healthy-living/info-2017/bmi_calculator.html?CMP=KNC...{{/link} if anybody wants to use it. It's free. When I typed in my weight and height it responded with "Don't even ask". *Bigsmile*

No, it actually said what I already knew. I am obese. I am 80 pounds or about 35kilos over my ideal body weight. I should be 180 pounds and I am just over 255. The problem is metabolism. I take Adderal for narcolepsy. I take 40mg in the morning and 20mg at noon. You would think it would cause me to lose weight but it doesn't. It has no effect on my appetite. Then the food they feed you here is high calories and tasty so that doesn't help. The biggest problem is that I drink a lot of soda. I hate the taste of water so I drink soda instead. It has a lot of sugar. I tried diet and it didn't satisfy me. though I am trying to switch to it.

Image #1971183 over display limit. -?- Prompt: "Have you ever asked someone what their favorite poem is? It's not as easy as you would think for them to name an author and a poem with the reason why.

One of mine is Marge Piercy's The Moon is Always Female. I was trying to understand women in general.

Please recommend a couple to us and why."

My favorite poet is Robert Frost. My favorite poem is "Snowy Evening in the Deep Woods".

In this poem, Frost describes riding a one-horse sleigh through the snow down an old trail in the forest. When I read it I can actually capture the scene in my mind's eye because I owned a pony when I was young and used him as a work pony and to ride bareback. I fell in love with poetry the first time I read this as a youngster. Frost was still living at the time, though I never had the pleasure of meeting him. Snowy Evening in the Deep Woods was the poem in my fourth grade Mr. Barnes used to introduce the class to the topic of grammar and literature. I remember being enthralled with the poem and knowing that poetry would become my favorite genre of writing. I began writing poetry myself soon after.

launches in two days. It is going to be a fun blog. We are going to be the crew of a starship. WDC is going to be our galaxy. The authors of WDC will be our stars. Their portfolios will be our star systems. The individual items in those portfolios will be the planets in those systems. Our mission will be to land on one of those planets and get a specimen or blog prompt, which the captain or one of the crew leaders will determine and then mail to you. You will blog about that prompt, being sure to credit the original author with its origin. Maybe we can draw attention to their ports this way!

Prompt: "Write a paragraph about a life-changing experience in your life except doesn't use I at all, instead use he or she. How did you feel after writing the paragraph as if this experience happened to someone else."

Susan said "Honey, I'm going out on the porch for a minute. I need some fresh air."

"Okay", he said, wondering why she would tell him something as insignificant as that.

She went out the door and was gone for about thirty seconds. "Honey", she called. "Can you come here?"

He went out to see what she wanted. "Can you help me into the house", she asked. "I don't feel well."

"Of course you don't", he told her. "I told you a week ago that you have pneumonia. I can hear it in your lungs!"

He helped her into the house, wondering why she was too stubborn to go to the doctor. He helped her to a chair and sat her down. Then he walked into the bedroom. "Sweetheart", he asked. "What did you do with my disc today?"

She started toward the bedroom to get the item he was looking for. He heard her collapse. He went to her rescue. She was unconscious and he realized she was not breathing. He began resuscitation techniques and called 911. She was dead.
