will launch in five days. I hope to get some people interested. The prompts we use will come primarily from ports on WDC!

Image for BCOF members to put in their blogs Prompt: “The world was my oyster but I used the wrong fork.” ― Oscar Wilde What do you think he meant?"

I think he meant that he dropped the ball. He had everything right where he wanted it and then made some type of mistake and messed it all up. Many of us make mistakes. The key is to get up, dust ourselves off, and keep trying until we succeed. If I had quit everytime I got knocked down I would have been dead long ago. As it is I am unemployed but relatively successful. I choose to be unemployed at the moment because I am a student, which in itself is employment. I stay busy and do not give up.

Read the prophecy. It's the Holy Bible.

Image for BCOF members to put in their blogs "Prompt: It's a beautiful day to _____________."

I believe it is a beautiful day to blog, to create, and to celebrate. I will try to elaborate a little bit. The blogging part is self explanatory. However you will notice that I have put a link above to a new bog site here on WDC that will be launching in less than a week. I am looking for crew members to come and join me as we travel on the WDC Constitution and travel throughout the WDC galaxy exploring the stars systems (authors and portfolios) within the galaxy. There will be a prompt each day, based on something found on a planet (poems, stories, quizzes, polls, etc) of those planets. Crew members will blog about those and enter their blogs in a forum just as they do on this forum. I hope to eventually make it into a Blogger of the week as chosen by the officers of the Constitution or by its crew members in general but I am still working on that.

I am celebrating for several reasons. One it is my 59th birthday. Two, I made a big decision yesterday. I decided that over the next five years, I am going to work on obtaining both my Master of Divinity degree and my Master of Social Work. I am going to do this by attending Marshall University from the third week of August until it dismisses for the summer around the second week of May. I am then going to attend Regent University from the second week of May until the second week of August. This was a big decision, but the financial aid package I received makes it worthwhile. I know it includes no time for a vacation, but to be honest I have always found that I am much healthier if I am working than I am if all I am doing is relaxing. I guess I am one of those people who is only happy when I am doing one hundred miles per hour with my hair on fire as the co-star of Top Gun said about the star.

Wish me luck in my endeavors. For now, I have an assignment to write for class.

Blog City image small "Prompt: Have you ever been pushed around and what do you think of pushy people? Then, what is the best reaction when we detect someone is trying to push us around?"

I had people try to push me around when I was a child. It did not work out well for them because I got into many fights over it. The only person who could push me around was my dad and I let him do so out of respect for him. As to the best way to handle it, I don't know. Nobody tries to push me around now because my size is intimidating.

What are your thoughts?"

I have to agree with Prince. There is nothing worse than intolerance in any form. Jesus taught us that we are to love each other. treating each other with intolerance is not love. I can tell you that intolerance is always going to exist. It isn't just a racial issue as it is being made out to be. If you want to see intolerance practiced against a group of people who come from all races then get involved in the lives of people with disabling diseases such as Parkinson's Disease or mental illness. Another group treated with a lot of intolerance is homosexuals. There are hundreds of minorities. Veterans are another group that is often treated with intolerance and misunderstanding, particularly combat veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The list goes on exponentially. It isn't just a Black and White issue, although that gets the most ink.

Blog City image small "Prompt: “I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past, I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”
Frank Herbert, Dune

What do you think the author means to say here, and how do you relate to fear yourself?"

I think the author means just what he says. Fear paralyzes us. It numbs the brain so that we often do not even realize that we are dealing with fear. We think it is anger or some other emotion. We do not realize that anger is a secondary emotion. Anger comes as a result of fear usually and is programmed into us so that anger creates the bodily responses needed for a response to fear. When we are scared we either fight back or we escape. It is instinctive. fear usually causes the anger. If we deal with the fear, the anger leaves.

Welcome... Prompt: "Vacation: Write about a vacation you took."

I remember being a child and going camping at a lake in Ohio. It was an Ohio state park that my father liked and we would vacation there every summer. It had two or three huge lakes that they kept stocked with fish. I did a little fishing but what I enjoyed most was taking the tour of the nearby strip mining operations and looking at the world's biggest cranes and the world's biggest trucks. Some of the dump trucks were so huge that a Cadillac could easily sit inside the wheel rims! These trucks were massive. I have forgotten the name of the crane or shovel they used but it could remove thousands of tons of soil or coal all in one scoop. It was so big a semi-truck parked next to it looked like a toy. Even though I had taken the tour many times before, I never failed to go see the operation.

Image for BCOF members to put in their blogs "Prompt: "Without freedom of choice there is no creativity." James T. Kirk, "The Return of the Archons" (Star Trek)
What do you think?"

Freedom of choice resonates with James T. Kirk. Kirk gave a lot of emphasis to respect of life and personal freedom while at the same time drawing strong boundaries and letting others know not to cross those boundaries. Kirk developed as the series "Star Trek" grew into a phenomenal success for writer and producer Gene Roddenberry. While no proof exists of life beyond the atmosphere of earth there exists no proof of the non-existence of that life either. The non-existence of other intelligent life remains certain based on Biblical fact. If God did create other intelligent life the word of God does not mention this life. In the event God did create such life this author feels certain that God would give that intelligence the ability to choose between right and wrong. In a sense: freedom.

There is no agreement with the outcome, but the results for Marvin Schrebe are "Only the Good Die Young" by Billy Joel. It is somewhat applicable, although anybody who knows of Schrebe can probably agree that he is going to live forever. He just would not agree.

Image for BCOF members to put in their blogs Prompt: "Ray Bradbury asked, “Why the Egyptian, Arabic, Abyssinian, Choctaw? Well, what tongue does the wind talk? What nationality is a storm? What country do rains come from? What color is lightning? Where does thunder go when it dies?"

I think Bradbury was saying that the same God who made the tongue made all those other things and that God is the one with the answers to all the questions. As to why we have so many different languages, I believe Genesis 11 explains that. Man was disobeying God, as man often does. Man was trying to build a tower to find God and God gave them different languages so they would have to split up and spread across the world.

Blog City image small Prompt: “The Seven Social Sins are:

Wealth without work.
Pleasure without conscience.
Knowledge without character.
Commerce without morality.
Science without humanity.
Worship without sacrifice.
Politics without principle".

From a sermon given by Frederick Lewis Donaldson in Westminster Abbey, London, on March 20, 1925.”― Frederick Lewis Donaldson

Do you think these social sins still apply? Why or Why not?"

I think they all do. What was sin yesterday is still sin today. Hebrews 13: 8

Image for BCOF members to put in their blogs Prompt: "Half a century ago, the amazing courage of Rosa Parks, the visionary leadership of Martin Luther King, and the inspirational actions of the civil rights movement led politicians to write equality into the law and make real the promise of America for all her citizens. -David Cameron What happened to equality? How did we turn back the clock of time and commit the same horrible crimes that were a a social norm before Rosa and Martin's time? Your thoughts about what's happening across the United States."

I'm probably going to piss a bunch of people off here because this is a touchy subject and I don't know all the solutions, nor even all the issues. What I have to ask is why can't we all just be what we are: human? Why do we have to segregate our selves by race and then get angry is someone uses the wrong term about us doing so. I was raised to call African-Americans "Blacks". I even thought calling them "Blacks" was wrong. I always asked the same thing. Why do we have to call this group "Black", this group "Hispanic" and this group "Asian"? Why can't we just call them "Human"? After all they are human beings! I mean we go and we hold "Black History Month", "Black Entertainment Television", "Black this", "Black that". "African-American this", "African-American that". We are creating the divisions and causing the tensions we raise so much hell about and it doesn't make sense to me. You don't hear me going around here saying that I am "European-American" and demanding that people identify me as such. I'm an American. It's that simple. I was born in Parkersburg WV so I am an American. If you were born in the United States then you too are an American. Why create a division and including yourself in it, then get angry because you feel somebody profiled you because of the identity you claim?

To the police officer who killed the man, I pray that they convict you of first degree murder and incite the hate crimes laws against you! If they do convict you of murder one and incite the hate crimes laws against you I hope it results in a lethal injection for you. I hate to see you die but if you committed a murder incited by race then you deserve to die. I have no pity or tolerance for hatred. Jesus said we are to love others and treat them as we would have them treat us. I would ask you sir if you would have wanted your victim to put his knee in your neck and hold it there until you died? If that is what you wanted then you did as Jesus commanded. Since I doubt you wanted to die, you are guilty of at least violating Jesus' commandment.

On the other hand I also cannot tolerate hatred that is being directed toward the bigots either. The rioting is ridiculous. People act like animals and burn down buildings, steal, tear, loot, and destroy and then wonder why they are treated like animals. I am not a violent man. I abhor violence and I do anything to avoid it. I guarantee you however that if somebody tried to burn down my place of residence and rob, terrorize, and destroy my home I am going to do whatever is necessary to stop them from doing so. If that means shooting them I would do so.

Minorities have always had it hard in this country. I know Blacks were frequently slaves two hundred years ago. I hated the idea of slavery when I was a child and I still hate it today. It was an institution of evil and it still is. No human being has the right to own another human being. Period. Then to treat others as second-class citizens or to show intolerance and hatred is just as evil. Period. I understand the anger. I agree with the anger. What I disagree with is the violence in response to the anger. We have a justice system. Let it do it's job. A police officer killed a man. It looked to be a racially motivated crime. Let the District Attorney take it. There is a term for it. We call it "due process."

Blog City image small "Prompt: What books are on your summer reading list?"

"Biblical Interpretation". It's my textbook for the summer. Of course I will read what ever papers and books are necessary for the completion of writing assignments.

VBS Day 3: Sacrifice

Sacrifice is how we live in community with each other. It means giving up what we need to meet the needs of another person. It is the epitome of love and at the center of Christianity.

Image #1997652 over display limit. -?- Prompt: "Did you know a raccoon always wears a mask, and compulsively washes his hands? What took us so long to get it right? Write about raccoons in your blog today. Maybe a funny story you've seen or an experience you've had with a raccoon."

The only experience I've ever really had with raccoons is hunting them and eating them. I didn't really care for the hunting. All you do is sit around drinking while you listen for the dogs to bark a certain way, signifying that they have a coon treed. Then you go and try to subdue the coon. On a "good night" you can knock the coon out of the tree and watch a good fight as the dogs fight with the coon until the coon is too exhausted to defend itself any further. Then you put the coon in a cage and decide what you are going to do with it or you kill it outright.

Many consider it "fun" to watch the coon and the dogs tear each other up. I always considered it inhumane. That is why I do not care for coon hunting.

I also am not a huge fan of coon meat. I have had it and found it to be greasy and not the best tasting. When you grow up in a poor family the size of mine you eat just about anything. Raccoon is something I hope I can pass on.

Image #1967457 over display limit. -?- Prompt 7: "Green Thumb: Write about growing something."

I don't have a green thumb. I've tried and I usually end up killing some poor plant. I don't know if I over water or what the problem is. I did get lucky once though. I grew a small garden that I spaded up by hand. The soil where I planted it was so rich it was black. When soil is black like that it is a good indication that the soil is perfect. That is why the soil you buy in bags at stores is always black. The soil where I planted my garden looked like potting soil. It was pure black and had some old wood rotting through it. I dug up the space and planed beans, corn cucumbers, squash, and other produce. Then my parents decided to move before the crops came up and were harvested. One of my neighbors harvested the crops for himself. He told me later that he supplied corn and tomatoes to half the neighborhood and canned the rest. It had been a bumper crop.

Image #1967457 over display limit. -?- Prompt 17: "Normal: What does normal mean to you? Is it good or bad to be normal?"

I don't think there is a "normal". I think there is a "normal" for each individual, but I don't think there is a normal regarding the human race. I think normal for humans is to look at everybody else as "abnormal". I mean we all carry emotional baggage. This woundedness may be as simple as workaholism or people-pleasing and it may be as abnormal as addiction to drugs, food, or sex. We all have some type of "dysfunction". The question is "What do we do about these" dysfunctions? Do we let them become the "norm" and ruin relationships or do we do something about them? 12-step programs are an excellent way to deal with whatever your "normal" is.

Image #1971183 over display limit. -?- "Prompt: A picnic is more then just a meal. It is a pleasurable state of mind. What foods do you like to eat at a picnic?"

A better question may be to ask what foods I don't like to eat at a picnic? The list would be very short: none. I like almost all picnic foods. My favorite picnic food was always my mother's homemade noodles. She would use a fresh chicken and cook it from there. I don't know what her noodle recipe was. My brother and my sister know, but I am not in a place where I can cook anyway. The cooking here is done for me. Seeing as I will likely never leave here I don't need recipes. It has been a while since I have been to a picnic. If I go I hope they have homemade noodles like my mother's!

VBS Day 2: Let's talk about grace and mercy today

Grace is God’s unmerited favor. It means there is nothing I can do to earn it. God gives grace. It is free. No amount of money can buy it and it cannot be stolen. It is given.
Mercy is what God had when He looked upon my sin. He knew there was no way I was going to save myself, yet justice demanded that I die for my sin. In mercy God had compassion on me and made it possible for me to escape death by having faith in the death and resurrection of His Son. Mercy and grace are what form me in Christ on a daily basis.

Image #1971183 over display limit. -?- "Prompt: A wall clock subtly reminds whoever reads it to stay in the moment. What does “to stay in the moment” mean to you, and how easy or difficult is it to stay in the moment?"

Staying in the moment means doing right now what needs to be done right now. The past is set in stone and the five minutes from now is too unpredictable. Worry about right now and the rest will be okay.

Announcement: I am a member of a group called VBS or Vacation Bible School on here. Starting today I will be making posts for them. When an image becomes available I will include it.

VBS Prompt: Introduce yourself by telling everyone who Jesus is to you and how He fits into your daily life.

Jesus is my Lord and Savior. He is the first person I speak to in the morning and the last person I speak to at night. He is the eternal Son of God. He is the second person of the Trinitarian God and the incarnation of God. He is God-man in that He is both 100% God and 100% man. He is the salvation of mankind and the reason for His-story. All of history, even the way we count time, surrounds His birth. God did not create Jesus, but he did send Jesus to become a man and die in my place for the sin I’ve committed against God. Jesus died a sacrificial death at the hands of Pontius Pilate and the Jewish Sanhedrin. He then was buried in a tomb and rose from the dead three days later. It is through His death and resurrection that I have eternal life and live daily in His kingdom.

Image #1997652 over display limit. -?- "Prompt: Write about June. What is your favorite part of the month? What is you least favorite part of the month?"

My favorite part of June is that it is my birthday month. June 9th is my birthday. I was born on Friday, June 9, 1961 in Parkersburg, WV. I don't remember a thing about it! lol. My dad tells me that Mom said "Oh what a treasure."

He answered "Yes. Let's bury it."

Mom says the doctor smacked my butt to get me breathing and I slugged him back.

Of course, Dad gave me a high five and said "That's my boy!"

Image #1971183 over display limit. -?- "Prompt: What is “longing” to you in general, and what do you long for?"

Longing to me is a desire for something. I long to see Jesus. I have longed to see Jesus for years.
