Welcome to my blog: I intend to share heartfelt writing about anything that comes to mind. |
PROMPT November 7th Today's prompt is taken from a book I own. "Great Quotes From Great Leaders", published by Motorola, my employer. This one is from Norman Vincent Peale. "The trouble with most of us, is that we would rather be ruined by praise than saved by criticism." Do you feel this is a valid statement? Tell us why you feel the way you do. For a lot of people this may be true. No one enjoys being criticized. Would you rather be taught by correction or with rewards? It is the same difference. Unfortunately, sometimes the best way for us to learn and correct our behavior is through criticism and correction. It's great to get praised and rewarded for the good things we do. That's awesome, but we honestly need balance between the two. If all I receive is praise, how do I know when something is wrong and needs to be corrected? The first step to correcting a problem is acknowledging there is one. You can not acknowledge that something exists if you do not have an awareness of it. This is why it is important for us to let each other know when we believe people are in the wrong. At the same time, we must remember that we mess up too. We must point out other people's wrongs with a humble attitude knowing we are no better than the other person. We must approach them with love and empathy. In some ways I am talking to Christians, but this concept really applies to everyone. We must be careful how we dish out criticism to others. There is a thin line between constructive criticism and just plain criticism. |
PROMPT November 5th You arrive at work today with five donuts and five coffees for the people who are scheduled to be there. But you have a problem. Counting you, six people are there, and all of you love coffee and donuts! How do you and your friends resolve this? Doesn't this place have a coffee maker in it with all these coffee loving people? I can half a donut. Of course if there was an empty cup somewhere, if everyone gave a little coffee, problem solved. As long as I can get some source of caffeine, I will be ok. So that's an option too. I don't have to have coffee. |
Prompt Proverbs 26:18-19 18 As a mad man who casteth firebrands, arrows, and death, 19 So is the man that deceiveth his neighbour, and saith, Am not I in sport? What do these verses mean to you? I think this has to do with pulling harmful pranks on others. These verse are saying that pulling pranks can be just as dangerous as a man whose temper is out of control to the point of violence. This is definately something to consider. |
PROMPT November 4th We've all heard of people who mysteriously 'go missing'. Tonight, write about a person who 'goes missing'. Someone that you read about in the newspaper or online, but nobody seems to know them, or remember them. I don't do much reading of the newspaper, and I haven't read any missing person's reports lately. As far as no one remembering, the one that I remember rather well is one everyone else in this area remembers too. I try not to dwell on negative events. there are many that could be remembered. Unfortunately, evil is alive and well in this world no matter where you are. All to often, people go missing due to sex trafficking or other crimes. There are people who often feel alone and go unnoticed. A lot of homeless people tend to feel that way. I feel for them. I wish I could help more. However, to a point, we have to have wisdom to know when these people keep themselves in that position, rather it be laziness or an addiction to something like drugs or alcohol. It is difficult to truly help people who won't help themselves. I have never known a missing person personally. I have known someone in a round about way that was murdered. Either situation is a difficult one. I think it would be harder not knowing what happened to your loved one though. I have personally known a few homeless people. This is why I know it is difficult to help someone who won't help themselves. It is a very sad situation. If I could, I would help everyone, but I am not in a position to do so. I help the ones I can and pray for the rest. Well, actually come to think of it, there was the time when I was 3 and hid in the car from my mom. She had the neighbors and everyone looking for me. When I was found she loved on me then gave me a spanking I will never forget while telling me to never do that again. Lol Well, I never did that again. |
Prompt Rewrite a favorite Scripture in prayer. Highlight the sentences or words of a passage that stand out in your mind and rewrite it back to God. Psalms 23 1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. 3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. 5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever. Oh, Lord, You are my shepherd, and I shall not have want of any good thing. You make me to lie down in green pastures. You lead me beside the still waters. You restore and heal my soul. You leads me through paths of righteousness for your name’s sake. Even though I may walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I don't have to fear any evil because you are with me. Your rod and your staff are a comfort to me. You bless me and prepare a table before me even in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil. You not only fill my cup, but you run it over with your goodness. I can be sure your goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in your house with you forever. In Christ’s name, Amen |
PROMPT November 3rd You live in a tourist town. There's always an 'interesting' mix of visitors. But this year they are especially... different. In what way? Sometimes, when it comes to people, you never know what you are going to get. It depends on what events are happening at the time to determine what kind of people you will see. For example, when a movie is being filmed in the area, you will see people dressed for the movie sets. When the antique car show is around, sometimes people like to dress to match their antique cars. A guy might dress like they did in the 50s. Halloween is very interesting. You never know what kind of costume people will come up with. This year was especially interesting. I saw people dressed like the chef and grill. There was the tornado and storm chaser. I saw a fake knife made to look like it went through a person’s head and they had covered themselves in fake blood. I was surprise to see someone in a clown suit with the head of a werewolf. There seem to be a lot of Mario and Luigis around this year. |
Prompt Write a letter to God. Tell him about your love for him and appreciate him. Talk to him about your relationship with him. Dear Heavenly Father, I love and adore you. There is none like you. You are a great and glorious God, full of mercy and grace. Thank you for giving us the gift of Salvation. Thank you for loving me. Thank you for all the wonderful things you do for me. Thank you for adopting me. Thank you for treating me like royalty. You are so very good to me I desire to have my heart right with you and to be in right relationship with you. I have learned so much here recently. Thank you for showing me and opening my eyes and ears and mind to receive your word. Please help me to keep the right attitude and relationship with you. Use me to show your love, glory, and power to others. Lead me to my healing. In Jesus’ name, Amen |
PROMPT November 2nd You are curator of a museum. This museum has an area of interest to you. Take us on a guided tour of your latest exhibition. I figured we have all kinds of technology to simulate things such as earthquakes and roller coaster rides. How awesome would it be to have a simulation of the Bible where you can walk through this exhibit and experience the reality of the Bible for yourself. Follow me, and we will experience this biblical walkthrough together. I might still have some kinks to work out, so let me know what you think when we are done. We walk into a room and the lights go out. It is completely dark. A voice begins to be heard. “And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light:” The lights come on with a video simulating the earth void and without form. This room goes through the entire creation experience. When Adam and Eve are thrust out of the garden, you are ushered into another room. The next experience was the offerings of Cain and Able and Cain killing his brother. When Cain was driven from the face of God, everyone is ushered into the next room where we enter the story of Noah. Everyone must go to the next room in order to board the Ark. Everyone goes to the following room when the exit the ark and experience the rainbow and a little life after the flood. Then going into the next room, we have the tower of Babel and the beginning of multiple languages. We go into the next room where it is several years later, and we see God calling Abram to leave his family. We continue from room to room, from one biblical story to the next. We see the story of Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph. We experience the exodus from Egypt and see the miracles and things the Isrealites experienced in the wilderness. We go with them to conquer the promised land. We go through the judges to the first king saul. We experience David's story. We go through the history of the kings until they are all carried away to Babylon. We go through some of their time in captivity with them, and experience the rebuilding of the temple. We go through some of the times of the prophets. We experience the birth, life, death, and resurrection of Christ, complete with the simulated earthquakes and the vail being torn in the temple, to the ladies visiting the his burial place and discovering he was risen. We watch his assention back into heaven and experience the day of Pentecost with the disciples. We go through Paul's conversion and missionary journeys. We even go through the book of Revelation and see some of the visions shared there. Then after a few hours we step out with a whole new perspective of the Bible. I would have provided more detail, but for the sake of time, I believe you get the picture. Thanks for going through this exhibit with me. |
Prompt What are some of the ways keeping the 10 commandments brings blessings into people’s lives? I have been reading through the first 5 books of the old testament. The thing that stands out to me the most is the phrase after the Israelites are instructed to keep God's commandments. It is often repeated, “that it may be well with there and they children after thee” It is stated the commandments were given to Isreal for their own good. They were given as a witness to other nations that God is the one true God, that the other nations may fear them because there is no God like theirs. God wrote them by his own hand in stone so that the world could know it is possible to have a relationship with God and live. And notice these are the only commands literally written in stone and they still are on stone monuments even to this day. God rescued them from Egypt, led them through the wilderness, had them conquer and possess a land of giants for their inheritance because he loved them. God desires a personal intimate relationship with us. Look at the lengths he will go to do so. He is so good. He made a covenant with is real based on these 10 commandments. Compare all he promised to the 10 commandments that he demanded to be obeyed. Is there really a comparison? You follow these 10 rules, and I with bless you so much you will hardly know what to do with it all. However, you disobey and I will be your enemy. It was that simple. |
PROMPT November 1st We all have possessions of some type. Tell us five possessions you can’t live without, and why they are on this list. I would need a bag to carry those 5 things. I would want my Bible. Then I would want a change of clothes and socks. I would want a good pair of walking shoes. I need my hair brush or I would have to shave my head. We all need food and water. I think that is the bare minimum I could get by on. I can live without electronics such as my cell phone and tablet, but I wouldn't like it. I looked for the bear necessities.🐻 In reality, do we need all of our physical stuff? It's just stuff. It is temporary. It is replaceable. This blog prompt makes you think about what is truly important in life. To me, my relationship with God and with others is what is most important. Money can not truly buy the really important things in life. The important things in life are matters of the heart and soul. Virtue. Love. Spiritual matters. Relationships. Reputation. Goodness. God's laws/Word. These kinds of things are what is most important in life. |
