PROMPT September 3rd

What is the Hardest Part of Your Job? Tell us how you deal with it.

Since I don't really have a job right now per say, I will have to approach this from a different angle. I work, but my work is never done. I am a caregiver. Many things frustrate me every day.

I would say the hardest part of caring for someone else is it is 24/7. It is that way rather it is friend or family member or a parent with a child. You never stop being a caregiver. You are on call all the time even if you are trying to relax or take a break.

It is hard to find time to be completely alone. You are constantly being called on for help or something. Another person relies on you for food and/or medicine. You need to be present for Dr appointments. Before pandemic times, if they are in the hospital, you are too. You assist them with bathing, using the restroom, and getting dressed.

Everything is on you. You do all the personal care, cooking, cleaning, bill paying, and shopping. I can be both overwhelming and exhausting. Sometimes I long for just a break, but then there is no one to relieve me.

Even if I could work at this point, holding a job while being a caregiver is quite challenging. It takes you away from the home for several hours. When the person you care for is a fall risk, it puts them in a vulnerable position. If they can not clean themselves properly after using the restroom, it increases their risks of infection and skin issues. Plus, after working for several hours, it is like coming home to another full time job.

You learn to live one day at a time because you really don't know what tomorrow will bring. Will you be able to get all the housework done or will you spend half the day in the ER because of a fall?

COVID has complicated everything. Do you risk going to the ER and exposing yourself to the virus or do you try to hold out to see if you feel better the next day? Even normal things you would go to the ER for, like having a seizure, has changed. You can not get the care you otherwise would. Everything, and I mean everything, is about COVID. It is really quite frustrating.

Take UP Your Cross

Prompt:
How much energy and effort am I putting into my relationship with God?

Answer:
This is a question we should ask ourselves often as this is the most important relationship of our lives. It can so easily get pushed to the back burner. To God be the glory in everything. Unfortunately, we all fall short of his glory often.

I put a lot of energy and effort into my relationship with God. Sometimes I wish I could put even more into it. I want to love him and serve him with all of my being. I am in the Word daily. I pray often. I try to live in constant awareness of his presence in my life. Yet, I could put forth even more effort. God knows I fall short. Thankfully, he is still faithful and ever-present.

“It's so hard to forget pain, but it's even harder to remember sweetness. We have no scar to show for happiness. We learn so little from peace.~”― Chuck Palahniuk
Do you agree or disagree?

I can't say that I agree. If we focus on the negative then we are more likely to remember the negative. However, if we focus on the positive, we are more likely to remember the positive. It might take a little more effort on our parts, but we can learn from peace if we put forth the effort.

Prompt:
Have you ever felt God was silent or distant from you? Describe when. Tell about it.

Answer:
I think we all experience this at one time or another. I have found that during these times it is I who have become distant. God hasn’t moved away from me. I moved away from him. Even those times when I could hear him to tell me to come out a little bit deeper, he was always right there with me.

He is only a prayer away.

PROMPT September 2nd

Where do you see yourself five years from now? Be realistic, write about your writing plans, or other plans you may have.

5 years from now? Realistic? Ha-ha. I am not quite what to expect for next year little alone 5 years. 🤷‍♀️ Okay, I can humor myself and you. I can hope and dream big. So why not?

In a perfect world, I would be 100% healthy. I would be working a career that I love. Actually, I would own my own business. I would have the family I could only dream of. I would drive a purple older model Corvette. My house would be beautiful single story, spacious with plenty of storage and an indoor pool.

Wait! You said to be realistic. Oh, in that case, we had better tone that way down. Lol Unfortunately, we do not live in a perfect world. Besides, material things do not buy happiness. Hey, I can dream a little though.

I honestly don't know if I will be able to work anymore at this point. I am currently caring for my roommate. We are both living on her income because I am currently having health issues. If something happens to her, I don't know where I will be. It is scary to think of it.

I think part of my issue is I have always lived my life reactively and not proactively. Honestly, I am not sure I even know how to live proactively. I was raised kind of like that though. I have always been the one taking care of everyone else. I have never had a clear vision of what my life should be.

I here people talk about definite plans 5 or 10 years from now and it all seems so foreign to me. How can you be so certain when it comes to your future? On the other hand, I am sure it is better than living your life with no sense of direction.

I guess I have always lived life as it comes. I never made any very long term plans. In some ways, my life has been so uncertain, I have been afraid to. I hate failing. It would be easy to beat myself up over not being as successful as I would have liked to have been. However, I have had many different experiences as a result. I think everything I experienced happened for a reason. I still don't know what my future holds, but I know who holds tomorrow and I know who holds my hand.

I have given myself some time to think about this entry today before posting it. I think I need to take some time to myself and reflect and really think about things. I am entering, menopause, the next stage of life. I am 44. I still have life to live as long as there is breath in me. Just because I have always lived one way does not mean I have to continue to live that way. I refuse to give up.

I know finding my way here to WDC, has been a blessing. I have rediscovered my love of writing. I would love to publish some kind of a book. Maybe that would be a great goal for my next 5 years. Staying alive is definitely on my agenda too. Lol

I can hardly believe it is September already. Wow! Is it just me or is this year going by fast?

I took some time off blogging in August. I will come back for now and see how this goes again. I enjoy blogging. It is just time-consuming at times and I don't always have the time I would desire to have for it. I think I would be content to get lost in WDC and spend all my time here, but I can not. Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it, there is also a real world we must all live in too.

Prompt:
Which is easier for you: to forgive someone or to ask for forgiveness?

Answer:
I don't really have an issue with either one. I guess if I had to choose though, it would be asking for forgiveness because that requires swallowing pride and admitting you are wrong. Although I have been accused of saying, “I am Sorry” too much. I would rather be overly nice and considerate then not enough. Sometimes I go out of my way to be nice.

Hmmm, that's a good question. I don't know many people with that description. I can relate, however, to the always having a job as long as there are sidewalks to work. For me, as long as there is a job within walking distance, I don't have to worry about transportation.

Day 3214: September 1, 2021

Prompt: Words to use: autumn, sapphire, honeysuckle, clouds, golden, peace, serenity, and time.

I like it when we have words that make me think of peace, especially on chaotic days like today. I could use some serenity like I feel when I am watching the clouds float quietly by. I am looking forward to Autumn. It is a golden time of year. You can smell the honeysuckle and stare into the Sapphire colored sky.

Day One: A PANDEMIC-AL BIRTHDAY

I could probably write a funny poem about this and still may do it later on for my personal entertainment and amusement. While there is nothing funny about people getting sick and dying, life is full of humor if you just look for it. For some of us, humor is a way to handle stress. Humor is a way to seize the moment.

Seize the moment comes from carpe diem, used as an admonition to seize the pleasures of the moment without concern for the future. Our lives are lived one moment at a time. We can't always choose what happens to us, but we do get to choose how we respond to it.

The way I see it, we have two choices. We can be miserable and complain about every inconvenience that comes along and everything we don't like with this COVID pandemic or we can choose to make the best out of every moment. Life is too short to be miserable all of the time. I choose to make the best out of it.

Okay, we don't like having to spend our days of celebration in quarantine or “social distancing”. This has definitely added a challenge to every day life. Even going to the grocery store has turned into an unimaginable nightmare, little alone trying to celebrate anything.

How can we make the best of every moment in these circumstances? We can count our blessings and focus on the positive. We can look for humor and beauty in little things. We can choose to love ourselves and each other. We can take time to reflect on the true meaning of each and everything we celebrate and hold dear.

One of the things I hated the most was all the restaurants closing their dining rooms and not being able to attend church. One of the things I enjoy is sitting at a restaurant table away from home to enjoy my meal rather I am alone or with someone else. Somehow, Zoom Sunday School, although enjoyable, just isn't the same as getting together at church.

Even though we had to endure inconveniences like this, we have adapted rather nicely. Now we have curbside pick up service. We are able to get restaurant food delivered to our door at home. We all learned new ways of doing things. Zoom and video chatting have become valuable assets as loved ones are dying and quarantined in hospitals.

The nurses and doctors on the front lines of the fight against this pandemic don't get enough credit and recognition. They put in a lot of hours, quarantine for weeks at a clinic away from home fearful, not knowing who will live or die, and sacrificing themselves and their family’s well-being.

So go ahead and make the most of whatever situation you are in. Go ahead and celebrate every moment you can in the best way you can. Live your life to your best ability and enjoy it while you can. Pandemic or no pandemic, we never know when today will be our last. We never know when we will draw our last breath or our loved ones will draw theirs. Love hard, grieve hard, be passionate about everything you do. You never know what the little things, like a hug, a smile, a greeting card, or phone call will mean to someone else. Leave a positive mark upon this earth, one worth remembering.

Happy 21st Birthday, WDC!

PROMPT September 1th(lol)

Well, let's get this official month started with a different sort of prompt... What room in your home do you use the most? The least?

The room that is used the least is the living room, and the restroom probably gets the most use. Lol Next most used room would be the bedrooms. This is where my roommate and I spend most of our time and do most of our activities. The kitchen gets used only at mealtimes, for snacks, cleaning, and to get something to drink. The dining area would be next to the least used room. I am usually the one who uses that room the most to write or sit close to a window and reflect.

Prompt:
When you say you will pray for someone do you follow through? If not why not?

Answer:
I always try to say a prayer right away so I don't forget to pray for them. If I am able I write it down so I can add it to my prayer journal and continue to pray about it.

Prompt:
Do you find it easy or hard to share your faith or beliefs with a stranger? How about an acquaintance, friend, or family member? Why or why not?

Answer:
I think when we follow the lead of the Holy Spirit, everything is made at least a little easier. That's not saying it is always easy to share your faith especially when you are stepping outside your comfort zone. I think it is easier when the conversation flows easily onto the topic. I am willing to talk with anyone. It is actually easier for me to share with strangers than family members. I feel less scrutinized by strangers. Family members tend to be more judgemental in my case most of the time.

2 years ago today, my dad was buried next to my mom. There were only 4 of us family members at the burial. We were doing a quick burial to keep from having to pay for embalming and storing the body. Some people might find this crude, but we kept him in the shipping box because he was shipped from another state back to Oklahoma. Dad was kind of simple, so he would not have minded. This also saved money to not have to buy a casket. He had always told us to just throw him in a box and throw him in the ground. Now, me with my sense of humor thought it was kind of funny. Mom had died almost 2 years prior, and he was going to be buried next to her. So with him in a shipping container, it was like delivering a package of my dad to my mom. They would have both seen the humor in it, so why not? My cousin, who was their power of attorney, another long story we won't get into right now, was irritated that I found it funny and was throwing a fit about me taking photos of the shipping box. She was complaining and telling me to not put those photos on Facebook. Some one might get offended.

Also the day before we buried my dad, my cousin who was like a sister to me had a major heart attack and stroke. Her name was Angela we were 9 month and 12 days apart in age. We were there for each other a lot, especially when family members died. This made my dad’s burial even harder, because I didn't have her to grieve with. In fact, it wasn't even known if she would survive. She did survive for a little while, but died from the complications from it November following. Right before the holidays in 2019, I lost all of my close family members. Of course, this was right before the Covid took over our world and I started experiencing health issues. 2019-2020 rocked my world. It is still rocking I think. I have had a whirlwind of issues and emotions to deal with over the past 5 years. This is a lovely way to head into menopause. Lol

Yeah, anyway it is hard to believe it has already been 2 years.

Prompt:
Do you consider yourself to be more “spiritual” or more “religious”? How are
they different?

Answer:
I like to consider myself more spiritual. Religious to me is more formal and ritualistic. Spiritual is being connected with the spiritual side of things. As Christians and believers in Jesus Christ, we should develop a close relationship with all 3 persons of the Trinity through the Holy Spirit. Christ’s kingdom is spiritual and not of this world. Everything seen is physical and temporary. Everything not seen is spiritual and of a more permanent nature.
