Prompt:
How much does God’s Word influence my heart?

Answer:
It has a huge influence on my heart. I hide the word in my heart as I read it and study it. It can't be taken from me. It affects the way I think and live. It is always at least in the back of my mind all the time.

Prompt Throughout your life, which movies and TV shows left some kind of an effect on you?

I had a major addiction to Saved By The Bell. I absolutely loved that tv show. I would say that is the show I was most obsessed with. My parents watched a lot of westerns. I loved to watch James Stewart movies. There was just something unique about him to me that I really liked and could relate to. Well mom bought these two westerns with him in it and I think I made her regret it. I watched them over and over again until I could almost recite them word for word. They were “The Far Country” and “Bend of the River”.

Prompt: "Science is a way of life. Science is a perspective. Science is the process that takes us from confusion to understanding in a manner that's precise, predictive and reliable - a transformation, for those lucky enough to experience it, that is empowering and emotional." Brian Greene

Use this quote to inspire you blog entry.

Science can definitely be interesting. For some, it may be a way of life, but not for all. I can see it being a matter of perspective. Empowering and emotional I can see too when witnessing it at work.

PROMPT September 7th

You have been chosen to speak at a Zoom conference concerning your chosen field. Over 500 people will attend. Each of them is new to your field and are waiting to hear words of advice from you about this field. What will you say to them to them concerning things you wish you’d known about the industry when you were getting started?

This is a tough prompt for me. Talking to people on zoom, I wouldn't have a problem with. However, I have spent most of my time working different jobs. I have done fast food, dietary aide, telemarketing, nurse aide, home health aide, retail sales, pharmacy tech, cashier, inbound telecommunications, and customer service. I would need to know what subject I would speak on. Giving a lecture on customer service is possible I suppose, but I really don't want to do that. I could talk about the food industry, that's at least more interesting to me. What I would probably rather talk about would be religious beliefs or why I think young people need to go to college or at least make some kind of plan to save money and follow through. I may just write about that because it is something I am finding myself more and more passionate about. If I write about the fast food industry, I am afraid that may not be as interesting. I might tell them to rethink their situation.

Hello,

Everyone is here today because you think you might be interested in making a career out of the food industry. I will tell you the truth, this is a rough industry to work in. Kitchens are hot. Kitchens are where most food is prepared to eat.

You are surrounded by food in the food industry. Therefore, it can be challenging to maintain a healthy diet. If you don't maintain a healthy diet, you will certainly regret it later in life.

The pay in the food industry is not the greatest. The money is found in specialized positions and management. It can be high demand for little pay.

You won’t just be cooking and preparing food. There will need to be dishes washed, floors swept and mopped, and equipment cleaned. You will likely be involved in the maintenance of the cleanliness of the facility you work in.

Working in the food industry, you will need to know food safety and food handling techniques. You will need to prepare for and pass inspections.

You will need to know how to deal with complaints from customers, patrons, client's, or residents. You also have to know how to work and get along with your fellow employees. At any time, you may have to be prepared to deal with someone’s sour attitude while keeping your own in check.

Food industry work can be enjoyable too. Some of us enjoy cooking, working around food, and pleasing the people we are serving the food to. Just know there are other less satisfying aspects of this career. I don't recommend it, but if that's what you want to do, then do it to the best of your ability. Don't take out your frustrations on the people and other employees around you. Know when it is time to walk away and cool off.

Day Seven: AN INCONVENIENT BIRTHDAY

It is a bit inconvenient to share a birthday with a major holiday or to have your birthday close to it. I can give several examples of this. A cousin’s birthday is December 25th. My birthday is December 22nd. My best friend’s birthday is November 26th. This sometimes happens to be Thanksgiving Day.

It can be very difficult to plan birthday parties around the above-mentioned dates. I can't say it hasn't been interesting, though for me personally, I didn't have many birthday parties. My cousin usually celebrates her birthday on December 31st or she really wouldn't get one of her own. I tried to throw my best friend a party a couple of years ago and only two guests showed up. Everyone else seemed to be out of town at the time. That was a bit disappointing.

My mom planned a huge birthday party for me when I turned five years old at a local McDonald's. She invited all my friends from church. Only two showed up. She never gave me another birthday party again. She always said it wasn't worth it if only two people would show up. I ended up baring a lot of my mother's disappointments.

You have to be prepared to deal with disappointments in life. So only two people showed up? It was still fun and enjoyable on both of the cases I mentioned above. You have to be prepared to make the most of it or you are going to just be miserable like my mother was. She was very easily offended. As a result, she was offended often.

A lot of times, Christmas parties happened on my birthday, so I made the most of it and partied like it was my birthday because it was. At least I had some kind of party. 🤷‍♀️ There were times it was like an early Christmas. My parents couldn't decide what they wanted to give me for my birthday, so they let me open two or three early Christmas presents of my choosing. Also on the bright side, I rarely had to attend school on my birthday and when I did it was usually Christmas parties all day. My birthday always fell very close to the beginning of Christmas break.

I always felt it was special to have a birthday so close to when we celebrated the birthday of Jesus. I always found a way to enjoy my birthday. Although the year my grandmother died was a bit challenging. That birthday is kind of blurry now. I do remember driving around with my family that evening to look at Christmas lights. It was a welcome distraction for all of us. That was something grandma had always enjoyed doing. My birthday seemed like a great time to do it.

I remember one year being the donkey in the Christmas play at church on my birthday. When I first told my best friend about it, she teasingly said, “What? Were you the donkey?” I laughed and said, “Well, actually I was.” so I actually did play the part of a donkey on one of my birthdays. Sometimes you just have to look for the humor in life.

Word Count 533

A birthday inconvenient,
Inconvenient as can be.
No parties are sufficient
When celebrating me.

My birthday near a holiday,
Inconvenient to celebrate
Due to the jingle bell way.
Born this day was my fate.

I celebrate me every chance I get.
Inconvenient as it may be,
My life still matters yet.
I still enjoy being me.

Take UP Your Cross

Prompt:
Am I giving God all of my heart, mind, and strength?

Answer:
I try to do so. Unfortunately, we all come up short though. I know I have areas in my life that need improvement too. I need to work on moderation in my food intake and finances. I just stepped on my own toes in my last Bible study. Lol I need to practice giving more glory to God. I need to work on praising him more and complaining less. I need to work on the things I focus on and think about.

Speaking of ♥tHiNg♥ (2112) has anybody heard how is doing? I know he was in a nursing home recovering from a stroke, but have not heard anything else in weeks.

I am not one to keep up with the Oscars. I don't really care who wins best actor or supporting role. I don't even really care who stars in a movie so much. Okay, there are a few actors I may favor a little bit. I just don't watch a lot of tv or movies. I should probably take the time to watch a few more. I just like to do something productive with my time instead of wasting it. So I tend to overwork myself sometimes.

Day 3219: September 6, 2021

Prompt: Choices can change our lives profoundly. The choice to mend a broken relationship, to say "yes" to a difficult assignment, to lay aside some important work to play with a child, to visit some forgotten person--these small choices may affect many lives eternally.
Gloria Gather
Tell us about a choice you made the changed your life.

This is a good prompt. I like this one. We all make choices. That is for sure. I have made many choices such as this, some good and others not so much. I can honestly say that I have learned from my mistakes and bad choices as well as from good ones. It really is the little things that seem to matter the most.

I have lost a job because I chose to help a friend who’s house had just burned down instead of going to work that day. I lost a different job because I chose to help my cousin who had just lost her significant other in a drowning incident and she was left with a baby and no income.

I look back on some of those things now that I once regretted and realize I made that choice because I valued the well being of others more than myself. I think I did the right thing at that time. I can also look back and see the impact it had on my own life. I can see more clearly now what I lacked at that time. I didn't have any clear direction. I actually had felt pulled in several directions.

I realize now that my parents were selfish to expect me to live my life to please them and for them and their benefit until I got a husband. They were a weight that held me back I hate to say, but it was true. I guess that is all I will say about that for now as this was all a part of my personal journey. I loved my parents but the relationship was a toxic one.

PROMPT September 6th

Do you love your job/career? Tell us why you love it, and why not did you choose this career and not something else.

I am unsure where to go with this one. Right now I am a stay at home caregiver. I didn't necessarily chose this as a career, but in some sense, I have been caring for people my whole life. It is a part of who I am. When I was young, I helped mom take care of my grandmother and even an aunt for awhile. I helped care for my parents, an uncle, and a cousin. I took care of my best friend’s mom when she had cancer. Now I take care of my roommate who is also my best friend. I am also helping care for my elderly neighbor.

I take care of them because I love them. I do my best to love people the way God loves them no matter where I am or what I am doing. I even applied this approach to customer care when I was working.

Who says a fast-food worker, retailer, or telecommunication worker has to be insignificant. Most people I know deals with each of these people at some point. I have to talk to someone about my bill or my equipment isn’t working. I go out to eat on pay days. I go shopping at several different stores.

I have an opportunity to to make their day better and they have an opportunity to effect my day with each encounter and transaction. It is more than just pleasing a customer. It is treating a person like a person and with respect. It is giving them your smile when they don't have one of their own. It is genuinely caring for and about someone even if you only see them for a second.

PROMPT September 5th

What is the best thing to come out of staying at home?

Well, it's too peopley out there of course! Lol

I can personally think of several benefits of staying at home. Of course, I like being at home. I don't like to run around all the time like some people do. This could seriously get me started. Lol

It is funny you should ask this question. I could seriously use another quarantine right now. I am not even kidding about that. I know you should be careful what you wish for, but for me it is getting a break from the outside world. It is a great excuse to shut the world out for awhile. It keeps friends, family, and neighbors from coming in past the front door, people who would otherwise be constantly needing something from me. It can get exhausting. Maybe I need to learn to say “no” more often.

I know that might sound a bit rude, but sometimes I feel like I can seriously use the break. It is an opportunity to get caught up on house cleaning. I can just focus on my roommate and myself without all the external distractions. It is time to reflect and write and pray and read, things I enjoy doing. It is quiet. It is not having to run several errands outside the home. It is letting someone else worry about delivering food, mail, and other items to our door.

I honestly enjoyed quarantine last year. I was ready for it to end when it did because I was getting a little stir crazy. But on the other hand, it was a break from the rest of the world. I am very independent, and I don't like relying on other people to do my shopping. Lol I think that is what was the hardest part of it for me.

I have an elderly neighbor that drives me crazy at times. I try to help her, but sometimes it feels like she takes advantage of my kindness. She would probably be the one fussing over us, getting the mail, etc... However, lately she has been at a fall risk. I would hate to not help her and then she fall and injure herself. I could seriously use a break though. I love her, but it is getting to be more than I want to deal with, overwhelming at times. I get that she is lonely and doesn't want her family to put her in a nursing home. I get it. But I already have my hands full with my roommate and my own health issues. I don't want to have to tell her daughter on her, but I may have to do so. I am frustrated.

It would shut out my roommate’s brother. I won't get into the benefits of that because I don't have a lot of good to say about that. That's something you really don't want to get me started on.

Yes, can I have another quarantine, please?

"Trees are sanctuaries. Whoever knows how to speak to them, whoever knows how to listen to them, can learn the truth. They do not preach learning and precepts, they preach, undeterred by particulars, the ancient law of life." ~― Herman Hesse Discuss this quote or something about a tree you've had a connection to in life. Like one you climbed, or read under.

The tree I spent the most time in growing up was the one in which my dad tied my swing to. It had huge branches. It bore my weight for many years. The swing wore out before the tree did.

Please use these words in your entry today: Magnificent, foliage, desperate, strutted, pigeon, and peacock. Have fun creating either a poem or story.

The magnificent foliage blocked the route of the desperate pigeon. The peacock strutted his beautiful feathers as the pigeon tried to get out of its way.

PROMPT September 4th

If the Internet disappeared tomorrow, how would you continue to share your love of food?

Awe, back to the good old days. Lol

There are so many ways even better than the Internet for sharing a love of food. What is better than posting your favorite recipe on social media or emailing it to family you ask? Well, that's easy. First, you cook it. Then you take samples of it to those around you like your neighbors. You make new friends. You invite friends and family to your house to eat and share your favorite foods.

When I was a young girl, the way you welcomed a new neighbor into the neighborhood was by cooking them something delicious and offering it to them. That was how you met and made friends with your new neighbors.

Social media, texting, instant messaging, and emails have become our norm instead. A personal touch or physical encounter is always better than a virtual one. Virtual one's are great when you live in another state or town far away, but for those closer to you, we should bring physical contact back into play.

As far back as I can remember, church fellowships, family get together, and visiting friends involved the love of food. Food was the centerpiece of those get together. I am sure we all have a lot of great memories surrounding food.

Day Four: SCARIEST BIRTHDAY EVER

What is the scariest birthday?

🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁

Halloween 👻

Ha-ha! Okay, maybe that wasn't the funniest joke, but I tried. 🤷‍♀️

What would be the scariest birthday ever? Would it be to have an accident where you are critically injured or a loved one may not live through the night? Would it be to get sick with COVID on your birthday, and have to spend your birthday sick and alone, perhaps wondering if you were going to survive it? What if you were quarantined in the hospital and being put on a ventilator on your birthday? It is hard for me to imagine anything scarier than these scenarios.

I remember having two very miserable birthdays of my own. My grandma passed away the day before my birthday in 2001 at 11 pm. On my 16th birthday, I had a friend spend the night. I got sick with the flu the day of my birthday. My friend sat by my bed with me until her mother came to pick her up. She got sick too about a week later, but I will never forget her kindness and compassion she had on that day.

For me, the scariest possible birthday I can possibly imagine would be to wake up in Hell, separated from the presence of God for the rest of eternity. You asked, and there you have it. Thankfully, I have accepted Christ as my personal Savior and have a personal relationship with God, daily. So I don't have to worry about that for myself.

However, I do have to worry about the next scariest thing. The next scariest birthday for me would be to have a friend or loved one die on my birthday, their birthday, or any day for that matter without knowing Christ, especially if I had not talked to them about it or lived a good example with my own life. That would be my worst nightmare come true.

So I plead with everyone reading this to make sure you don't die without having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Accept him as your Savior today, and learn to spend time with him daily. You will be glad that you did. If you need to know how to do that, please email me and ask me how. I would be more than happy to talk to you about it. I am sure my teammates would love to talk to you about it too.
