Here are words I like to write
All day long 'til it is night.
Words go up and words go down
When complete approve the sound.

If you complete my little rhyme,
Things will come your way in time.

Blog City Prompt: Our hearts grow tender with childhood memories and love of kindred, and we are better throughout the year for having, in spirit, become a child again at Christmastime.” ― Laura Ingalls Wilder
Talk about childhood memories.

My days believing in Santa Claus could be painted by Norman Rockwell. The five of us kids standing at the top of the second-floor stairs. Each with a silver candle holder with lit candles. We were ready for our close-ups. My family is quite into photography. Our family movies have been digitalized. I played the movies for my granddaughters when they were around seven. About a minute of silence when Meghan looked at me.

"Grammy, when is the sound coming on?"

I loved everything about Christmas. The best part was the fresh tree that smelled heavenly. We had bubble lights and tinsel we placed on the tree one strand at a time.

I recreated some of the memories with my son and daughter. They passed it on to their children.

I am blessed and thank God for every blessing bestowed upon me.

Prompt: Everybody's life is a country song, depends on who's writing it." Reba Mcintire Write about this in your Blog entry today.

Bless her Heart

She was born in the Big Apple City
On a wintry Friday morn,
Doc said she was late it's a pity
Picked New Year's Eve to be born.

Refrain:
It was New Year's Eve tracker was born
Yeah, New Year’s Eve she was born!

Oh, she picked New Year's Eve to be born
Father drove mother through the snow fast,
His outstretched hands were honking the horn
Hospital was near at last.

Refrain:
It was New Year’s Eve tracker was born
Yeah, New Year’s Eve she was born!

On New Year’s Eve last day in it rings
Three-quarters century she’ll be,
She'll be back to laugh to sing
This song about what? All together:

Refrain:
It was New Year’s Eve tracker was born
Yeah, New Year’s Eve she was born!

Spending the day with the NaNoWriMo people I am sponsoring. If you want to read a terrific novel I recommend this one:
"Never Verse Book One
It is right about 50K words, 10 Chapters by Stoneheart StoneHeart

Moving on to read the rest: Hope, Krista, Oriana, Elizabeth Hayes, and
Mousethyme

There is a great variety. It is exhilarating to read something hot off the writer's pen!

PROMPT: On this day in1865 Mark Twain published the short story "The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County" in The New York Saturday Press.
Here's your opportunity to write a short story about a frog. If you're not feeling creative share with us what you know about frogs.

____________________________________________________________________________________________

Barney

Ginny was so excited. It was her turn to take Barney, the class frog, home for a weekend. Barney had lived in Miss Sara's fourth-grade classroom since he was a tadpole. Ginny was in the fourth grade with Miss Sara for three years. She continued to underperform in order to fail and get left back to repeat fourth grade. She was determined to get picked to take Barney home with her. One day, before the last weekend in the spring, she got her wish at last. She rushed home with Barney in the travel carrier, anxious to show her family.

Ginny's family was not excited to have Barney spend the weekend. Ginny would take him out of the carrier and play with him. Mom and Dad could picture the frog hopping under their couch and into the inner part of the back that had been ripped months before. Or he could hop up the stairs to the second-floor bedrooms. Ginny spent the rest of the night playing with Barney. Frogs stay up all night and sleep during the day. The next day Ginny woke up before dawn. She carried the cage to the backyard. He seemed content to snooze in the partial sunlight under the apple tree. He was exhausted from playing with his human friend.

Ginny bent down close and whispered, "Barney, I am going to take you for a long walk in the morning so we need to get going right away. Barney was only interested in going to sleep. Having no choice in the matter, he braced himself for the bumpy ride with Ginny. He dreamed he was right back in his permanent place in the huge fish tank sitting near the wide window at the side of the fourth grade's classroom. As she promised, Ginny pulled on her jacket before dawn, picked up the carrier, and slipped out of the back door unnoticed.

A long while later, she spotted her destination. Old Ruckman's Pond. She quickly approached. set the carrier down, and explained to Barney what was going to happen. She opened the door held closed by a spring, and shook the cage lightly for Barney to hop out onto the edge of the pond. A moment later Barney was in and swimming enthusiastically through the murky water. Ginny observed his tongue capturing an unsuspecting insect. After consuming one impressively plump one, he hopped onto a huge lily pad to rest, digest, and thank his benefactress. Barney sighted Ginny who was taking one more look at him behind her shoulder as she started her walk back home.

"Ribbit, croak croak, ribbit," he called after her. Ginny sighed.

She would pass the fourth grade this time. Her patience paid off. Barney was no longer couped up in a fish tank in a classroom. He was free to swim, hop, and make new friends. Before long, he would meet a girl frog to love, marry, and have little Barneys.

"And that, Miss Sara, was the smartest thing I have done in my entire life," she explained when she returned to school with the empty carrier.

I still need to read Stoneheart's NaNoWriMo's story book 2. He says he is a novice writer but I seriously doubt that. His work needs a lot of editing but so does mine.

I am keeping tabs on a number of newbies. Taking some of the pressure off of schnujo.

I still want to get to more blogs to get to know more bloggers. My goal is to visit 2 per day. I find I am reading the same two every day.

I did write two poems for the Thankful Poetry Contest. I would love to win something sometime. I thought I would be more successful in contests. I won 3rd place in the Good Deeds contest back in July. Except for two times winning a weekly hook contest I have been awardless. Maybe one of my poems will be at least an honorable mention. After 8 mos being active here, I know who the great writers are.

Where did this week go? Some weeks I know how fast it is going by the way my pill caddy empties out. I was excited to get a new blood pressure cuff. Mine was so old and this new one works great.

I shared my Substack link on my social media today. I got a number of comments along the lines of "I did not know you were a writer." I tell them I play a mean piano too!

I need to work on my Journalism homework with the deadline at midnight. I have a few projects going- crafty things that are a welcome distraction.

I am not officially doing the Blog City Prompt but today's asks about how you feel about doing laundry. I love to do laundry. From sorting whites and darks to adjusting all the dials and buttons for just the right temp and drying time. Then comes my favorite part which is folding and putting away. The only thing different lately is I need to have someone carry the clothes basket to the laundry room.

I have been trying to reach my younger sister with no luck. I can't think of even one time I have not returned a call or text or at least gotten word of what my deal was. I contacted our little sister by text and she has not replied either. I have to remember I am placing my expectations on them. This is not really out of the ordinary for them.

I did some of my schoolwork this week after the deadline. I have an accommodation that gives me extra time to do the quizzes. All is done and this is the fifth and final week of journalism. I don't believe I have learned anything new at all in this class. I am still on track to graduate in August 2024.

The Gathering

Thanksgiving we will be
Nana, Papa, and the rest,
Praying for all to see
The bountiful harvest.

Giggles from little Jill
A cutie I declare,
Cuddling with Uncle Phil
Lame leg tucked in with care.

Called to the supper table
Each one taking their place,
Eating until quite full
Thankful for blessing’s sake.

I doubt I will do everything. I try to remember to copy and paste tomorrow and check what got done.
