TUYC - Spiritual Disciplines
Ask, seek, knock...all of these are action words. Our faith must be one of action, and not just an intellectual exercise. Only then, will we be able to see God's workings in our lives. James 4:1-3

1 What causes conflicts and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from the passions at war within you? 2 You crave what you do not have; you kill and covet, but are unable to obtain it. You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask. 3 And when you do ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may squander it on your pleasures.…

Some people treat God as an ATM machine. You put in "prayer" and expect "goodies" from God. We have to have the right motivation or "heart". God desires a relationship - an exchange of love and faith.

Dear Father God,

How often do we ask of you for wisdom? I know that I fall so short of what you desire for me. Help me to understand your will, and to be able to contribute rather than be a drain. Help me, Father, for I am weak and faithless at times. I want to be a light that shines, rather than hidden away.

Discipline:

dis·ci·pline
/ˈdisəplən/
noun
1.
the practice of training people to obey rules or a code of behavior, using punishment to correct disobedience.
"a lack of proper parental and school discipline"

2.
a branch of knowledge, typically one studied in higher education.
"sociology is a fairly new discipline"

verb
train (someone) to obey rules or a code of behavior, using punishment to correct disobedience.
"many parents have been afraid to discipline their children"

Prayer would be a discipline that I need to work on. How to go about it? by doing it. I need to make my faith more active in nature and not just a mental discipline. I don't want to miss heaven by 18 inches...the distance between the mind and the heart.

Scripture writing prompt: Matthew 7:7 – Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.

Prayer prompt: Seek wisdom and discernment in making important decisions.

Blog prompt: Identify and write about a spiritual discipline you want to improve on and how you can go about it.
