 This is where I place many of the Bible verses, that help me rest assured, I am saved. |
| Today, my pastor issued a challenge to the congregation. "Start one Gospel conversation with someone who may not know the Lord every week." That being said, I would like to start a conversation right here. What is a Gospel conversation? How do we effectively start one? How should we be mentally and spiritually prepared when we do? I've tried multiple approaches with greater and lesser degrees of success. I've seen others' approaches with the same. I have a friend who works from a maybe 4 X 6 or 5 X 8 card printed on both sides. When he sees me, he is exultant. "I led 16 people to the Lord this evening." Or "10 people just prayed to receive Christ, while I was in the store in the store." My success is not anywhere close to that. I'm often happy, if I can say, "God bless you" when someone sneezes, or "Qué Dios te bendiga" as a Spanish friend leaves our conversation. In the Gospels, Jesus spoke to a blind man about sight, and He told the woman at the well about Water that keeps someone from being thirsty. I must confess that there are groups who share what they believe with greater consistency than Baptists do. (Baptist is my background.) However, the message is at least as important, if not more important, than the method. I believe the Message is the most important aspect of any conversation. Whether we knock on doors or meet people on the street, the Person we want them to believe will make a difference in their eternal residence. Jesus talked about the sower, who spread seed on various types of ground. Three parts of the harvest include sowing the seed, watering the seed, and then finally harvesting the seed. I don't know about you, but sometimes I'm tempted to feel less because in my lifetime, I've not seen the level of harvest that I wish I could have. The task is daunting. The work is never done in this life. I pray that my posts on Writing.Com will have a good effect for eternity.
