Falling Toward the Goal
He staggered on with unsure feet.
His goal ahead, the finish line.
His strength now gone, "Something to eat.
More energy
," 'twas deep to mine.

"Please, let me finish, O God Above.
I've trained for months. I see the goal,
but legs are stiff. I just can't move.
A marathon? I'm most unwhole.
"

In agony, he reached the goal.
It seemed at times, "Why even try?"
His training pushed past "the newborn foal"
to feed resolve, restore the Why.

The runner met the goal that day.
He's often lived Life's races same.
When weariness is on display,
we must remember why we came.
