Reviews for the 2024 Reading Club originally, but I'm adding the 2025 reviews. |
So to be blunt, I don't know anything about the author of this book, Anthony Thorogood. I only know that when I typed the word "purple" into my Kindle, this book, The Purple Pimpernel came up I'm not even sure why he called the book that. I can only assume it's a reference to The Scarlet Pimpernel, but I don't really see the connection to that book. The very short novel is about an Australian private detective named Jack Hamma. who finds himself caught up in the investigation of a millionaire named Cornucopia. Other interesting characters include Jack's mother who is a sort of hippie artist, Cornucopia's beautiful Asian wife, and Cornucopia's daughter from a previois marriage, Isabel. The story has a an odd sense of humor combined with the local color of the Australian Outback. I have to say that the ending is a bit abrupt, but there is lots of action along the way. I guess this book is worth a read, but not much more than that. [i}} |
