Love Unattainable

I hold an ocean in my cup
Not one drop dribbles out
Vast sky captive in my pocket
Seams pulled but never pop

Yet I’m an empty glass jug
Sitting in a dusty corner
For all the riches of sea and space
Fit not through my narrow neck

I once touched the velvety plume
Of Impossible Love’s downy wing
But the skittish creature took to the sky
- Never to revisit -

Constant thirst; can't drink my fill
Cruel desert promised oasis
Searching the heavens I yearn for the return
Of Love Unattainable
