Prompt 18 (27th November 2023)

ART

hidden inside a slab of stone
may be concealed a maiden, or a man
of perfect proportion, Vitruvian
posed in any number of possible positions
awaiting only the skill of the sculpturer
as with hammer and chisel they cut away
scrape, carve and abrade with both precision
and inner vision
their art is in essence the ability to
see the shape foreshadowed in the stone
removing to reveal some representation
of statuesque reality through skills hard won
