Childhood Memories
Today was one stormy day. We are officially in the beginning of hurricane season. I wanted to do some laundry but because I didn't want to go to the laundromat and end up getting soaked, I ended up just staying home and watching movies with my adult kids. We watched Beasts of the Southern Wild. Some of the experiences brought me back to my childhood in Puerto Rico.
We lived in what was a house that was built by my paternal grandmother. It had a tin roof and when it rained I would hear the sounds of the water pattering. We also had a large yard where my sister and I would run barefoot and play pretend amongst the fruit trees. They would be Mangoes, Breadfruit, Quenepas, Coconut, Passion Fruit, Soursop, Guava, Jagua and Tamarind.
My favorite thing to do was mud pies I would have a whole set up where my sister would be my customer and I ran the café. Sometimes our little friends in the neighborhood would come to play. It was such a simple life. To run around and have no worries. In retrospect, I was aware of myself as a person in this Universe. My mom would often find me looking up at the sky and asked me what was I searching for and I would tell her God.
That house was also the first place I saw a ghost or spirit. The Spirit of my Grandmother Ana.
