When I was a rich man
A time I remember now and then
Silky brown eyes met mine
glowing with joy and delight

Velvet soft shimmering eyes
Her voice soothing my aches
Velvet pretty softest pretty
eyes and voice darkest chocolate

Dearest of all friends
Our time sweet to the touch
Always playing sincere
Honest love songs together

When I was a rich man
No one ever said good-bye
Especially my dearest love
Her Lips always whispered kisses

O I am not a pauper now
O no that would never do
But I remember when I was a rich man
When we were never parted

Sleep well my darling,
Do sleep well
