Premise

Assignment #2:

"Plot: Premise"

Now that you've brainstormed the general story idea, let's identify some story elements:
(1) Setting(s). Where and when does your story take place?
(2) Protagonist(s). Who is(are) your main character(s)?
(2b) Flaw(s). What is(are) the protagonist's major flaw(s)?
(2c) Goal(s). What does(do) the protagonist(s) want (or want to avoid)?
(3) Conflict(s). What's keeping them from their goal(s)? Why?
(4) Antagonist(s). Who or what is creating the conflict(s)? Why?

Just for fun: Write a provocative one-sentence description of your story.
Example: A young, mistreated orphan discovers he is a wizard and must face the evil villain Voldemort to fulfill his destiny.

(1) Setting: It takes place in two settings. It's going to be a series (it's Fantasy and I'm told it's basically mandatory), it mostly takes place in a world called Klesosia. There is a part in book 2 which takes place in modern day Earth.

(2) Protagonists: There are 3 main protagonists, with some main side characters that hang around a bunch. Adelaide de Caelkirk, Dane Ravizac, and Rowan Alexander.

         (2b)Flaws:

         Adelaide's flaws: She is essentially socially stunted, for a Princess who has trained since she was a child, it is a flaw. She doesn't spend much time with others and doesn't realize how much of a detriment it is to her during her journey. It causes her to make mistakes with those whom she is supposed to trust and thinks she can trust. And that she is singularly focused on doing her mission. Since she was a child, she has trained to be the "hero". She was told she was the Chosen and that has been what her whole life has been devoted to. Unfortunately, because of that unbroken focus, she doesn't pick up on cues that she is not the Chosen (spoilers for book 1) and it becomes fatal.

          Dane's flaws: He's very secluded and enjoys his privacy. He's not a people person and doesn't trust people as a rule. Because he was born with magic, he was forced to hide it as a child by his mother who wanted to protect him. Even though he doesn't resent her for it, he resents the world for making magic, especially when it wasn't his choice to have, a death sentence. Once he was old enough he moved outside of the city he was born into the woods and lived alone. He also tends to be very stubborn and stuck in his ways, which is very hard for him to overcome as they've helped him survive on his own, so he struggles with adapting to dealing with other people who have different "ways". It is this flaw that causes him guilt and resentment after Adelaide dies at the end of book 1, as he feels he should've seen the cues that she missed and the resentment towards Rowan through no choice or means of her own.

         Rowan's flaws: She has low self-esteem that she has been working on, especially since she moved out on her own. She has been finding herself and working on herself. It takes a hit when she comes to Vala and realizes what is expected of her. She does a lot of comparisons between her and her twin sister, Adelaide. It also mixed with the fact that she didn't grow up in Vala, understand the depth of what is expected of her and why. Also why she's important and what makes her important. There's kind of a time crunch and it takes her awhile to comes to grip with that and to understand it.

         (2c)Goals:
         For Adelaide and Rowan, their goals are the same, though ~different~. Adelaide has trained from birth and knew what was expected of her. She knew she was the one who had been Chosen to stop the intrusion into Vala. Unfortunately, there was a wrong choice made and she wasn't the Chosen, her sister was. Rowan just wanted to be happy. Because of the choice made when they were babies, Rowan was sent to Earth for protection. Unfortunately, the family who adopted her while loved her, the mother never truly accepted her and often pointed out her insecurities, like her weight or her job or her choice of major. Her goal eventually, is the same as Adelaide's. It's also her goal to be successful in a way that her sister wasn't and to be accepting of herself in a way that she wasn't.

         For Dane, he shares a goal with Rowan in that he learns to accept himself and that he also is more than just the savior, more than just the magic he possesses.

(3)Conflict: They begin to intertwine to where the conflict becomes bigger than they realized. That the big bad they're expected to confront, is really only a distraction, as is the one they believe to be after that. Though they are pieces of the puzzle that makes them realize that they were testers, feelers, of the larger issue. Which is that another realm, that runs parallel to Klesosia or Earth, but that has ruined their own and wants to take Klesosia for it's own.

(4)Antagonists:
         Amahle: She is from the Althal Kingdom, nearly a thousand miles away from the Caelkirk Kingdom that Adelaide resides in. She comes to find out that she is the long lost daughter of one of the Gods of Vala (the underworld). She is rejected by her father and is the catalyst for causing the Prophecy to come true, for needing the Chosen and the Hero.
