Downey, California: Present Day

(1) The gym culture that Nolan belongs to believes that fitness is a virtue. Anyone who is obese is seen as an under achiever, and it is considered a status symbol for people to be in great shape.

(2) 25 year old Nolan is obese, yet he is striving to study kinesiology so he can become a personal trainer. Some of the people he knows sees this as wrong, because they believe that overweight people should not become personal trainers.

(3) Fit people believe they must haze obese people if they try to enter the world of the fit.

(4) Glenn Tana and his gang enforce these rules at the gym where Nolan trains.

(5) Personal trainers use an electronic device to measure body fat.

(6) Gym culture influences who is in and who is considered out in their social circles.

(7) The gang that torments Nolan must operate under the radar of the gym staff, or they could be kicked out.

Distant Future

(1) Nothing is top secret any longer, he people have the right to know what the government is doing at all times.

(2) The military can over ride what the people demand if it will protect them. If the people demand something that can alter the past, then the military can ignore their demands to protect the public.

(3) The government of this future time is not allowed to tamper with the lives of people more than five thousand years in years past. Since the 21st century is further in the past than this, they are allowed to conduct an experiment on someone.

(4) The government of this future time is a democracy, and everyone has equal rights.

(5) Time manipulation technology exists, as well as space crafts that can reach the other side of the galaxy.

(6) The military of this time has the technology to conduct time travel experiments on people of the distant past, and plan to do so.

(7) The military and the people of this republic have a voice in how Nolan is treated during the experiment. It is because of the people being against Nolan from the future not being returned to his own time that Major Terry Grant is forced to give transponders to each of the two versions of Nolan.
