Gargoyles' Presence

Great evil lurks in nearest view,
but touched things give no aid.
"They ward off ill, pour waters through,
and keep us peaceful staid."

So say the leaders of the church,
that placed these on the roof,
but do these idols from their perch
now teach the greatest Truth?

An evil face to devils scare?
I really question that.
Intelligence in every lair,
No human self at bat.

The days when evil becomes play
as demons in a coat
are days when good we must betray,
the lamb exchanged for goat.

Can crossing over give us peace?
Do we yet see them true.
In Darkness will we find release
from Life's pain when we're through?

Or should eschew we Hell's great ploy
to keep souls, yet unsaved?
The Trojan Horse of Darkest Troy
is Halloweenish graves.

Oh, flee from this, and hie to Christ.
As breathe, you still have time
to trust the One, Who paid the price
to make your Home sublime.
