Narrative about planning what to write and how I do it for a book. |
Page 2 Hello everyone, Below is the character sheet for Rania, the star of this project—my Fictional Paranormal Romance novel. My favorite kind. There’s still more to add, like her fictional address, but before I include that, I want to show you how I design the maps. The information from those maps will be added to the sheet later. CHARACTER SHEET — RANIA EVANS Rania Pronounced: rah-NIGH-ah • rah — soft “a,” as in calm or father • NIGH — long “i,” as in night • ah — open, gentle ending Taglines: • A woman who walks between fear and knowing. • A woman carrying a gift she never asked for and a purpose she never expected. I. BASIC INFORMATION Full Name: Rania Evans Pronunciation: rah-NIGH-ah Alias / Operational Name: Ms. Evans (used during sensitive investigations) Age: Late 40s to early 50s Residence: A quiet suburban home—intentionally ordinary, intentionally private Occupation (Past) • Off-book consultant for a classified State Department task group • Specialist in missing-persons cases using intuitive sensory perception • Assisted cross-jurisdictional cases involving USPS, FTC, FBI, and State Department Occupation (Present) • Civilian, early retirement • Recently re-engaged with a confidential rapid-response missing-person unit (subject to change) II. PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION Build: Slender to medium; moves with quiet deliberation Height: Approximately 5’5” Hair: Soft brown with silver strands; worn naturally Eyes: Hazel-gray with a reflective brightness during visions General Presence: Calm, reserved, observant; emotionally tired at times but physically steady Notable Feature: A faint, lightning-shaped mark near her shoulder/back—rarely mentioned, mostly symbolic. III. PERSONALITY Core Traits: Empathic, observant, gentle, introspective, honest to a fault Strengths: • High emotional intelligence • Steady during crises • Trustworthy and discreet • Intuitive pattern recognition Limitations / Vulnerabilities: • PTSD from earlier cases • Emotional exhaustion • Fear of being misunderstood or criminalized • Hesitation to use her ability Primary Motivation: To prevent tragedies before they take root—before she is once again brought in too late. Primary Fear: Facing another case like the Virginia sting, where she sensed only loss. IV. BACKSTORY Childhood & Family • Married for five years; husband died in a car accident • Born into a family with deep government ties • Her father—a principled State Department official—became her anchor • Mother (TBD) The Lightning Strike • Life-altering event in early adulthood • Cardiac arrest during the strike; survived with minimal damage • Requires daily medication • Afterward: sensory visions, emotional imprints, flashes of places and states of being • Crowds overwhelm her Recruitment into the State Department Unit • Father shielded and supported her in her 20s after her husband’s death • Joined an unofficial team to assist with: – cross-agency missing-person cases – child exploitation investigations – jurisdictional conflict cases The Virginia Sting (Breaking Point) • Multi-agency operation • Twenty computers seized • Hundreds of victims • No survivors sensed • Final vision broke her • She resigned the next morning; her father filed the paperwork Life After Resignation • Quiet living: gardening, family, small routines • Tried to forget the gift • Tried to outrun the gift • The gift never truly slept V. RANIA’S GIFT Type: Intuitive-clairvoyant sensory perception Triggers: • photos • clothing • personal objects • emotionally charged locations Manifestation: • Chest tightness • Blurred peripheral vision • Brief sensory flashes (movement, scent, temperature, sound) • Emotional impressions rather than words Strength: Most effective during the “hope window”—the first 24–48 hours. Limitations: • Cannot change outcomes once death has occurred • Cold cases produce muddy, unreliable visions • Overuse drains her mentally and physically VI. RELATIONSHIPS Her Father Former State Department official; protected her from legal and emotional harm. Her Daughter Loving and anxious; unknowingly becomes the bridge that pulls Rania back in (Keith’s case). Captain Markus Irving Richardson Agent Lorne’s supervisor. Her new boss. Opposed to using Rania. Unfriendly, unaccepting. Also—unbeknownst to both of them at first—her neighbor. Agent Lorne Rania’s partner and team lead. Respects her boundaries; sees her gift as a tool, not a liability. Local Law Enforcement Mixed responses—some supportive, some suspicious. A prior interrogation left deep emotional scars. VII. INTERNAL CONFLICT Primary: Can she dare use her gift again, knowing what it costs? Secondary: Can she trust the system—or herself—enough to save someone in time? Third: Can she function on a team when the supervisor doesn’t believe in her work? VIII. CHARACTER ARC • Believes the gift is a curse • Scarred by Virginia • Dragged back in by Keith’s case • Nearly destroyed by suspicion • Laundromat case exposes danger • First real victory: she helps save Lila • Realization: the gift was never meant to show tragedy—it was meant to prevent it • Reawakening: joins a new confidential early-intervention unit • New purpose: steps into her role with intention, not fear IX. AUTHOR NOTES • Rania’s voice is soft, reflective, steady • She never dramatizes—her emotions live in stillness • Her gift is subtle, not cinematic • She sees herself as ordinary; the gift is not her identity • Quiet beauty, unaware of it • Has not dated since her husband’s death • Possible future romantic arc with Captain Markus (enemy-neighbor tension) Plan: Next, I’ll create character sheets for: • Her father • Her daughter • The Captain • Agent Lorne • And brief notes on the Captain’s wife My next post will share some of the research behind the overall story. Come along and take a look behind the scenes. Kind wishes, Tee |
