Lovely Hula Hands

I learned to Hula at eight,
meant to teach me grace.
It's the hips most think
drive the dance, not so.

The hands tell the story,
the humuhumunukunuku apauhaa swim
while the tradewinds sing
under a symphony of stars.

My favorite gesture: humuhumunukunuk apauhaa = trigger fish = right hand over left, fingers pointed straight forward, thumbs rotating while hands move forward from side to side.
