Hot 4th of July,
Kids dodge in and out in play
adults sit and chat
while squirt gun battle ensues.
Scott misfires and hits Grandma,
Peg is not amused.
Our laughter quelled by her rage.
Scott aims, fires, bull's eye!

My mother-in-law was not a loving Grandma to my son. As far as she was concerned, nothing he did was right. When instead of laughing off a little mistaken squirt she made a huge deal about the kids playing around the adults with water guns which were supplied them by the host, her nephew, and who by the way also had a squirt gun and was playing with the kids. But she took her anger out on my 8 year old, and while she was screaming at him, he calmly raised the water gun and squirted her right in the face. Unfortunately everyone broke out in more laughter and of course, I had to discipline him. I just couldn't allow him to get away with such a defiant act against his grandmother, even if she had totally over reacted. He grew up to be a decorated Deputy Sheriff.
