A collection of magical children stories.{re-write in progress) |
Ch.1 The Magical Book Once upon a time, in a nearby village a wholesome lady sang a happy song. She watered her plants as she skipped merrily along. Her baby soft cheeks were bouncing as she curtsied to the frog that floated on the pond. "Well, hello Mr. Frog!" said the old lady. "How are you today?" "Ribbit," said the frog and hopped away merrily "Oh, Ribbit indeed!" She beamed at the frog, waving goodbye as she made her way back to the little cottage by the pond. Now the cottage was just the must beautiful thing you ever did see. It was yellow with little white shutters. Red as an apple, the door gleamed in the sun. The Garden was a kaleidoscope of colors. Each plant more beautiful than the next. The ferns swaying in the gentle breeze. Dear Mrs. Copperpot was a busybody. She tended her flowers and her baking. She often talked to herself while she sat reading a book under the apple tree. And this where our story takes place. "Come on Froggie. Shake a leg. Gather in everyone as I have an annoucement to make. I went to the marketplace yesterday, and guess what? I saw the most marvelous thing. A book! A new book with magical words for the garden. The man on the wagon said that if I read this incantation tomorrow when we have a full moon, I'll be able to change shape and forms I can become anything I want to be!" She leaned and whispered to the animals around her. "Quack, Quack!" said Mr.Duck "Hush, Mr.Duck. The man also said I would be able to speak to you and you would be able to talk back!" She was hugged the book to her bosom. "Imagine, after all this years, I won't be lonesome anymore." She stood up and wagged her finger at the farm animals. "Now you listen, this is our secret. No one else can know about the Magical Book.If someone finds out I'll be stuck with my last shape forever!" she finished walking back in the cottage. Waiting for the door to close the animals walked around the yard. Little did their Mistress know the concern she awoke in them. Only the cheery bubbling of the small pond broke through the glum. After a few moments, the dog walked to the pond and looked at his reflection. He turned and said, "I don't suppose we can warn her about it, right?" "Don't be ridiculous, Mr. Dog. You know she can't understand us,"said Mrs. Hen "Yeah,(ribitt), and believe me, hard as we try to tell her, she is as stubborn as an old mule," said Mr. Frog "I heard that," said Mrs. Mule " Perhaps we could create a distraction," said Mr. Dog, as he paced back and forth. "What kind of distraction?" said Mr. Owl "We can fake an accident here in the yard and then one of us sneaks in the house and snatches the book. We hide it where no one else will find it again!" finished the dog with a loud bark of enthusiasm "Yeah!" the animals cried out in unison "Only one thing, I see," said timid Mr. Mouse "Who...who is going in to get it?" He twitched his nose nervously. "Why, Mr. Mouse, you're just the animal I was looking for," said Mr. Dog "M..me," stammered Mr. Mouse taking a step back. He jumped with surprise as he collided with a apple left behind. The animals crowded around Mr. Mouse, knowing how he always fled when he is frightened. They would need his help if they were to be any hope for Mrs. Copperpot. |
